Substance:
I like to think that ending, where Yukari repeats her gesture with the robot from Chapter 17, implies that all they've shared, and Gaku's infinity-spanning heroics, remain in some way, and Yukari stays because a woman who'd go to such lengths is worth so much more than personal advancement.

I agree and think that is what happened.

This was a trip. Found it at midnight last night and read it in one go.. Good thing I didn't work today. I can't express enough how much I love it, and the comparisons to Lain are pretty accurate.

Trippy stories like Evangelion or FLCL aren't quite as interesting to me as they used to be (though I still love them), but the ones that manage to maintain a coherent story despite all the weirdness, like Qualia or Lain, are still some of my favorite types of stories to read. Probably this particular mix of sci-fi is one of my favorites too, reminding me of Gibson's books for one.

And I can really understand Gaku-chan, myself. Like her, I can feel the desire to go that far for someone, if only I had the ability. And even in the end, though I share her mild frustration with not finding a "perfect" solution, I can also understand why such a thing is necessary. I'd be too selfish to remain a non-existence, for sure. I'll end up rereading it, probably in the near future, but frankly I expect this to become one of my all-time favorite mangas.

So I've been catching up on everything in my subscribed list because I hadn't had time recently... Get to Kase-san and decide a whole reread is in order.

Mew is so considerate.. She's really being good about making sure Donut is comfortable with everything, and not pushing her into stuff.. I love it. But of course, you can't hold back those desires for ever. That "next time will be the final exam" line... BEST. TEST. EVER.

Not really a big doujinshi artist fan; I don't usually keep track of them. But this person has to be, hands down, my favorite doujinshi artist. Every NanoxFate doujin is just too much <3

Seriously, I've commented before about the story Bloom Into You, saying I think it's one of the best written yuri stories around right now.. But this one right here, Lily Love, has to be THE best.

I absolutely adore how Mew solves these problems like an adult. She can be helpful to Ploy but has clear boundaries. And doesn't hesitate to let Ploy know when those boundaries have been crossed. It really looks like she's LEARNED from her past relationship(s), and the way she's keeping things level with Donut is because of that.

I'm even thinking it's possible I could like Ploy now, depending on how it goes from here. If, like Nez-chan said, Ploy can drop the baggage and start shipping them like it appears she is now, I might be able to forgive her initial bitchiness....eventually.

For what it's worth, I think the later volumes of Yuru Yuri are significantly better than the first volume, if that's the one you read. While I've loved it from beginning to end, not only does the art improve over time, but in some of the latest chapters there have actually been stories carrying over from chapter to chapter and some hints of character development...

There's still not really any actual yuri, but it is wonderful nonetheless, and the anime is pretty spectacular overall, too.

Perhaps I'll give it another go sometime then. I admit the lack of yuri was part of the reason I dropped it, and I do enjoy slice-of-life.. If there really is some character development and longer arcs later on, I may be able to get into it again.

Seriously though, I'm agreeing with Nez-chan two posts up. Take away the yuri tag and this becomes a wonderful little slice-of-life story. Don't let expectations get you too worked up.

Haha, true. But, well, there's always going to be cliches. I guess what I meant is that they're used well. That's the common thing to say now isn't it? That "tropes are tools", not inherently good or bad. And I think the author is doing very well at keeping a natural feel about their relationship and interactions.

@yuzichan: Well, we HOPE she eventually will. Though the title is pretty indicative, thankfully. I could still see this possibly going the way of "I never fell in love with her, but she taught me what it means so now there's a feeling that we'll both find the right person some day".

I totally expected it to be the new guy, not Maki-kun, but this makes it pretty interesting. And basically what everyone else said.. Love the consent, the "you're sweet" line. Basically, I love how real and free of cliches this story is. Definitely one of the best-written yuri stories I've read, so far.

I think my favorite part though, is how Yuu doesn't immediately fall in love in return, but things about it seriously and tries to be open-minded, and not afraid.

Would like this better if it were a different series.. I only got through about one volume of Yuru Yuri before I became discouraged and figured it wouldn't go anywhere anytime soon.. So I can't relate to the characters too well. But still, Pokemon's awesome so I'm interested. Sign me up for now.

Probably the first work by this mangaka that I actually liked. Usually, I start out loving the story but by the end I just don't like the characters. These characters though.. I love 'em
