The empty indifferent look in the eyes makes "her" look shady, plus the panel positions and insinuations ... Is not about gender, the author wants to say something.
This is not a case of sexism, but attentiveness. Loose from the fact that it's a man, the fact that she sarcastically laughed at the words "It's something you should do with someone you love." plus her general attitude after her cousin entered the scene just screams wrong.
