Everyone who likes cats is secretly gay. It is known.

BTW, author’s first idea was the love between courtesans in high end brothel. She’s into such things.

... and if decently done that could have been good. I don't feel that every bit of yuri needs to be fluffy, or comedy, or whatever. It's perfectly possible to write interesting things about awful situations that might or might not end awfully too.

I just got zero trust in (particularly) manga authors doing it well. Their track record as a whole with these ideas just sucks (or at least it does to my eyes). And this first chapter and the points it somewhat emphasizes (like that this isn't as bad as her previous life and the ridiculous virginity check) and the points it conveniently ignores (like how the fuck this scheme has any hope of working...) just makes me go "nope, this one's not going to work either".

But who knows. Might be surprised later on if I stick around ^^;

Straight from My Hobby is Weird. Well. Not straight, of course ...

Well, as we say in Brazil, opinions are like assholes: to each their own.

we have the same saying in Poland

We have the same saying in my household :p

... hasn't anyone here watched Dirty Harry? It basically globalized the saying (Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one). That being said it doesn't have any sort of "secret" meaning that only works in certain languages so there's really no reason why it'd be some language specific thing in the first place ^^;

Actually, "grandad" is a valid alternate spelling.

Right. Seems to be BE and AE related too (about which spelling is popular).

^ even if it's not about outright selling those "ojou-sama" type school settings basically always come with the "find a good husband" (which tends to be equated with "how much money do they have?") goal, so the difference seems small.

And yeah, the school seems to specifically prey on vulnerable girls; probably ones where the family agrees that they should go away or where the girls themselves are isolated. It's how this sort of abuse scheme works after all (I mean, we can pretend, but this sort of thing - if not in quite that fashion - does happen in real life).

I'd disagree though about the "at least" portion. Slavery (and that's what this is) doesn't get any better "just" because people are only raped occasionally and not as much as in your average hentai manga.

If it were serious about staging some sort of rebellion against this fucked up human trafficking ring it'd be absolutely into it, but this smells of "woe is me, we're going to be sold, but that's only tragic 'cause I lose my new lesbian friend."

A aunt - niece series where the niece is older could be a fun variation. Say the niece's mom has her at 20, and the grandparents had kids fairly early too, so they might only be in their 40's, but then they get a late kid at about the same time, so niece and aunt would be about the same age ...

Teens are all thirsty. It's pretty easy to understand, actually.

There's an error in ch.60 p.4; a bubble says "grandad" ... well, I mean, that also is a typo, it should be granddad, but there can't be any men in this series; must obviously be something else ...

You are missing the point.

Which is?

Why do people like to criticize without pointing out what the actual problem is? If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but I'd like to know why and about what then ^^;

? This is set in China bro

Yesyes, but we were talking about mangas in general (or at least that was my understanding) and this and Beloved aside it's all Japan.

Look for the depressing as fuck tag ^^;

(not that I think every real lesbian couple in Japan is living a life of misery; but I wouldn't want to deal with homophobia on top of the institutional sexism there)

So much for all the talk about what would never happen in the series ^^;

Although it might not happen. But if that's not an implication of feelings returned I don't know what is.

Your right, consent keeps getting redefined. As we learn to become more sensitive to the victims of these crimes, we refine our definition of consent to better protect them.
For heaven's sake! The girl was so young and naive, that she didn't even understand, what was being done to her, was sex! If that isn't too immature to give consent, then the concept, of consent, is meaningless!

To be fair, our understanding of murder and due process is pretty good too, yet few people criticize Murcielago and so on for doing away with that. Why is it that we have a tougher time with fictional sex crimes (or at least ethical dubiosity) than with fictional crimes of violence?

... that she keeps talking can only mean that she wants to be made to shut up again. And again. And again.

Also this is sexual harassment and non-consensual and rape-y and therefore everyone should go to jail.

imo it's just (vaguely) edgy porn disguised as some sort of story. I doubt this was ever going to be anything else. Whether it was consciously or "just happened" I don't know, but it's how I see it.

A little bit of lying is good for every relationship.

I suppose it wasn't her real hair colour? If she was telling the truth and they insisted it be dyed just so she fit in, they could all go die in fire for all I'd care. She shouldn't need to blend in and pretend - but Like I said she was probably lying.

It's a common theme though. First that comes to mind is redheaded Youko in Juuni Kokuki, but there's plenty of other characters that get that "dye your hair to blend in" treatment.

There was this 60s project about deciphering dolphin language, which included one female caretaker/scientist living in a partially submerged apartment with a male dolphin. That went a bit ... wrong (not just because scientist thought it'd be a great idea to drug dolphins with LSD. Seriously, wtf...). Also; ended rather tragically.

Anyway, just thought I'd leave this little tidbit of animal science history here.
Alas, no yuri ;)

Interesting chapter.

Also, suspension is such a stupid punishment. ^^
