That’s a perfect description. Just for the fun of it, I’ll try and enumerate the ways in which it could go:

• Ascension end: Haruki finishes the diary and gets closure, Sakura peacefully ascends
• SeaBed end: Sakura is just a hallucination by Haruki, but she gets closure either way
• Impostor end: Sakura turns out to be some kind of spirit who managed to steal Sakura’s memories
• Supernatural end: Haruki has powers to creäte illusions and unintentionally creäted a false Sakura
• Sciënce end: She turns out to be a test subject for some necromancy experiment

Most of these seem quite unlikely, but I’ll be pleased if I can predict it lol

Love triangle?

I feel like there has to be at least some balance for it to be a love triangle. Otherwise it’s just an endgame and an annoying character.

Does anyone else love this manga so much that they check every day to see if they have uploaded another episode? I do! xD

I just check the full Dynasty front page every day, I read like half the series on there anyway :P

Is this the first time this manga about books has actually named and and talked about specific book? Usually they just like, refer passively to the existence of books rather than reference ones from the real world.

Well, this one’s just coïncidence — this series is old. The only other thing with Smell lately has been that one fetish series, but that’s not really a lot.

Are there really that many annoying male characters in this genre? The majority of male characters I can think of are generally supportive, the only exceptions off the top of my head is that on guy from Bright and Cheery Amnesia. I mean, obviously I’d prefer it this way but I wouldn’t say it’s not the norm anyway.

I kind of wish we got more time with the actual couple instead of with their friends, right now it’s nearly structured as if Minami and Tatsumi are endgame. Also I look forward to the inevitable sidecouple chapter.

Man I was so confused by this chapter I thought it was a flashback for ages.

Overall, good series, obviously I’m upset we got no payoff but it’s on me for clicking a Subtext series :P

What a weird concept lol. I love it anyway. The structure of “person A wants X so they try multiple times and fail, but then eventually gets it through some unintentional sideëffect of their attempts” is very cliché but it still gets me every time.

I feel like it’s unusual for the “cheerful friend” character to end up dating someone (e.g. Anokiss’ Ai, Lonely Girl’s Honami) so I’m very happy to see this ship play out. Really I’d like anything from this series, the drawings are just so beautiful.

What happened to chapter 27? Did we just skip one?

Is it just me or does glasses-less Egawa look a lot like Wakana? I think it’s the eyes. Probably just coïncidence.

And now I’m split between Chizuru x Honami and Chizuru x Egawa lol. Would also be funny if at the same time as Ayaka reveals her relationship it is also revealed that Chizuru and Honami were secretly dating too.

The ending is explicitly framed as a (literally Christmas) miracle, and the entire idea f a miracle is that it's a radical rupture of the "ordinary" course of events: in this case, giving Kaori the happy ending she does not really deserve.

tbh I have to admit I was a bit disappointed we got an immediate happy end for this one, given how beautifully written the angst was. Just exploring her suffering and regret with intentionally no resolution (Xiu Xiu vibes) would make a great story as well.

Oh man I can't really see how Makino will worm her way out of this one.

I mean, applying real-world logic to the situation it would be pretty easy IMO to make up something:
- “A friend asked me to take care of it because her mother was searching her room”
- “I saw it on the ground, I was planning on posting on the local forum to find its owner”
- “A friend signed me up as a prank”
- “I wanted a change of scenery from studying at home but didn’t realize what a love hotel was”
As long as she is insistent and nonchalant about the lie it would realistically be fine.

That said, I would love to read her finally getting exposed about this >:3

This imagination trope is always pretty risky to play off since it becomes hard to take anything seriously when there’s always a 50% chance it’s just taken back in the next page. That said so fair this story has been handling it pretty well. It’s also a great way to insert more yuri scenes even when the plot hasn’t progressed that far yet so I’m not complaining at all XD
