@skelly85: EDIT: I've shortened this in response to criticism.

I want to be clear--I am not in any way trying to discriminate against non-binary people, and as I stated originally, I agree with the use of the yuri tag here. I'm not arguing against that. Yes, I'm unfamiliar with Project Sekai, but it doesn't matter because in this case I have no issue with the idea of the "NB lesbian".

What I am saying is that, in general, I don't think it should be a case of what the author intends--as many people here seem to suggest--but the way it would seem to the average person. Because the whole point of tags is so that readers can search for what they want to read, not so that someone's identity can be validated. That's why it's necessary to have somewhat objective definitions of these terms. No, it's not always black and white; it's never going to be perfect, and there will always be edge cases, but the general understanding of yuri is that it codes feminine, and that's what, in my opinion, really matters.

As I also said, I'm not going to tell anyone what their identity ought to be, even if certain identities seem rather paradoxical to me. The point is that, and I would think you'd agree, few people would be OK with calling this yuri if the character didn't clearly code as feminine. As you know there are plenty of people who call themselves non-binary who nonetheless very much code male, and people probably wouldn't want that sort of thing listed as yuri -- just like someone wouldn't consider someone like me, a regular man who is not a drag queen but who decided for some reason I wanted to use the pronouns she/he, to be in any way someone who could assume labels like "lesbian".

^ Almost as if AI were involved, although it could very well just be that the pose is so awkward and unusual that the artist had difficulty getting the proportions right, and did a lot of correcting and re-scaling and eventually just said "screw it, good enough".

@FluffyCow: To be clear, I hope you didn't take that as an insult (even though some shows from that era admittedly were unfunny, canned-laughter fueled family-oriented shlock). Just that it seems you don't get much from laughing at characters if you can't care about them, which I totally understand.

Looks like this was mined from one of the doujins.

Honestly, this whole thing reminds me of back in the 90's when "Seinfeld" (showing may age a bit here) started to get a bit too cynical for many people's tastes in the final couple seasons, treating a convenient death like a gag and having the characters engage in some morally dubious behavior. Back then, sitcoms just didn't do that sort of thing. They were supposed to have heart, and you were supposed to care about the characters. There were supposed to be those "awwww ..." moments. It felt wrong to have everything played for laughs. I felt the same way at the time.

Yet a decade or so later I found it very easy to appreciate "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". The characters are all horrible people, and nobody is ever tempted to feel the slightest bit sorry for any of them when bad things happen. You can just laugh your ass off at them making constant idiots of themselves and each other--it's pure, unapologetically unsentimental comedy.

Point being, people's tastes change as their expectations of a medium change. Maybe for me, the intervening years of laughing at political humor or the surrealist stylings of animated comedies like "Space Ghost Coast to Coast", "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", and "Robot Chicken" altered my expectations of what a funny show was supposed to provide. It looks like there's a genre of anime that's exploring that path, and maybe one day people like @FluffyCow will laugh along with it because they've come in with different expectations, despite right now having a 20th-century sitcom-viewer's taste in anime.

This sounds like the kind of series that you just have to decide not to take seriously. As in, not care about the characters on a human level, kind of like "Always Sunny In Philadelphia" or "Seinfeld". From reading episode summaries, it sounds like if I got to caring I would constantly be rooting for Konoha to die, or in some way receive her just deserts.

I think it's fairly obvious that this person presents as feminine. Therefore if they are trans then they're a transgendered woman, so I don't see the problem with a Yuri tag. It's what consumers of Yuri broadly expect (for the most part).

EDIT: My bad on comments inappropriate for this space.
@FluffyCow: I've seen that too, but that's the problem with trying to accomodate everyone's peculiar identification. Words lose their meanings and there becomes no objective way to adjudicate questions like, in this case, what kind of tags are appropriate.

Don't get me wrong; to each their own, and I'm not going to bother anyone about their identification. But there's only so much one can reasonably expect in terms of inclusiveness in the context of gendered things like "Yuri" if people are being intentionally vague about their gender.

For example, I've heard of an all-girl's school that accepts transgendered women but not NB; it's hard to blame them. For another, I could say I identify as a male but my pronouns are 'she/her'. I think most people would roll their eyes, as well they should, because that combo makes no sense. Arguably neither does "NB lesbian", since "lesbian" is a gendered term.

Point being, I think what's important here is the external presentation, not the character's stated identification, which may have little objective coherence or meaning.

Normally this gets a Height Gap tag, though that doesn't so much come through in this rendering ...

I'm unfamiliar with these characters, but I like them already. Not enough medium/dark brown hair in anime.

^^ Just mix a tiny bit in with soy sauce. Gradually increase the amount. That's all you're supposed to do anyway. Don't put a big gob of it in your mouth; nobody does that except dudes trying to look tough.
