I'm reading right now (and totally loving) a xianxia webnovel. The mc has bad meridians and can't cultivate, so all the other characters call him a trash and bully him all the time. Then the mc discovers a mysterious cultivation technique he can practice, becomes super strong, and enacts a gruesome revenge on all the mean people who bullied him before: some he kills, some he mutilates, some he exterminates their whole clans... I guess, according to you, I'm some kind of sick monster who likes to see in fiction the same situation and same acts that in reality we all would call sadistic and horrible? And just as sick and monstruous are the billions of human beings who read novels or watch movies or play games with similar plots?

And no, these creators are never at risk for creating gay content.

The most they risk is becoming millionaires if their work is a huge success. XD

A series I really love is Mo Dao Zu Shi, it's xianxia and it's very gay, with extremely explicit descriptions of gay sex. The original novel was published on an online platform in 2015 and then printed as paper books in 2016 and reprinted in 2018. The ongoing manhua adaptation (started in 2017) is so popular it was awarded the Best Manhua award at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Festival. The audio drama based on the novel aired in three seasons from 2018 to 2020 and has such massive popularity (hundreds of millions of playbacks) it's still today in the top 3 most listened to series in the overall ranking for audio streaming websites. The anime adaptation also has three seasons (plus a Q spinoff); the third and final season aired a few months ago, from August to October, and of course the two mcs are just as gay as in the novel and get their happy gay ending in the last episode! (Squee!) And there's a live action series as well, 50 episodes of 40 minutes each, which was filmed in 2019-2020. I've found it on Youtube and just started watching it, it seems very well made and I'm liking it a lot! (Tho I'd say... Wangji's actor is too much of a pretty boy, he should look more strong and manly!!!)

This, I think, is a good example of how gay stories are not only quite common in Chinese media but also hugely popular—and widely acclaimed!

Yvonne mentions that the system only pops up when Elsa is near. How many times has Elsa witnessed Evie suddenly appear surprised/annoyed with no clear cause? Seen her reading something that isn’t there? And then proceed to ‘bully’ her? Just because she can’t see the system doesn’t mean she can’t see Evie interact with it.

You're likely right. And that makes me think there must be a heroine system that Elsa is forced to interact with.
Normally seeing another person stop on her tracks, look shocked and start reading something that isn’t there would be strange but wouldn't make you suspect that they are interacting with a game-like system....unless you have a similar game-like system with which you have to interact yourself. That's what I have come to guess anyway.

I read chapter one and was a li'l bit turned off by the loli blonde's yanyan flips.

I was kinda interested in this comic until I saw the MC attack someone for "pitying" her. The guy was trying to stop a group of bullies from badmouthing her and she assaulted him. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess.

You could almost suspect that she's a stressed, overemotional teenager who can barely tolerate being hated but absolutely can't stand being pitied. Crazy, huh?

Imagine there were teen kids like that, who lash out with violence when they feel horrible humiliation. Hah! As if! This manga is so unrealistic.
