The author has been SO disciplined keeping the tone for like a hundred chapters and keeping things ambiguous to the point I was not entirely convinced this would be actual yuri and not just a subtext story about the way subcultures connect people. And now all of a sudden bam!!

Idk a lot of gay stories don’t have that type of restraint to meet characters where they’re at. It hits different to spend a lot of time with a character before the like. Gay Story part of things comes out, it makes them feel more believable. I love it.

God I love this manga so far, it's such an interesting premise. It's cool how they were able to take so much time to go into feelings and stuff, and they let the "all five heroines were transported to a world that doesn't quite fit them" plot lead sit for several chapters before getting back to it. I'm really interested to see how this will go--the logistics of this kind of thing always makes me feel a little anxious, and when you combine that with the romantic competition and the different personalities involved, it's a scenario with a lot of tension.

I was thinking the same thing. Admittedly, the way the scene is drawn kinda undercuts the sexy vibe, but that’s just down to the artist being a bit inexperienced. The intent seemed pretty clear,

IDK I wouldn't say it undercuts the vibe at all! There's something about passionate, intense feelings that come straight from the gut, that have to be suppressed in polite society: they feel dark, and they come from a place that language can just barely touch. I think it makes total sense to express them like that--especially lesbian feelings, because they're often painted as predatory, a betrayal of the supposed sisterhood that women are supposed to share, and so you have to be very careful filing off the rough edges and making them presentable or keeping them hidden, as Kano here has long done.

But now that she knows Matsumura is also a lesbian, and also wants her, those feelings can come to the surface. And in this case, she's been harboring them a long time, and is expressing them straight from the gut. It can be very intimidating, but as you see here, if it's a welcome feeling, one that reaches a similar place inside you, it can also be very hot.
