Did they dial it back later in the mangas did they not show it in the anime? I cant be sure now, it was quite some time back maybe I always had that impression of that series and that is what I remember apart from those crazy battles and the cool characters, Getbackers manga is amazing, don't give up the opportunity to read it just because of my comment

Really ? I don't remember much fanservice from Get backers aside from Heaven's huge boobs bouncing. If there is fanservice, it must be very very very light. Or maybe it's different in the manga ?

Edit : Ah and the anime is great. Well it's a shounen so you should expect a shounen but it's a very good shounen

I apologise if it sounded like I was criticising the getbackers its one of my favourites, however if I remember correctly(it has been YEARS since I read it) but it had quite a bit of fanservice, it had your typical clothes tearing during fight and the manga starts with an upskirt shot :/ but then yes I guess shounen covers all that

So umm, I was going through the anime thread and I started wondering if there were any shows with live actors which had strong female protagonists, I am not sure if this is the right place to be asking fir suggestions but you guys seem cool with things so yeah any shows with strong female protagonists that you guys like?

Here are some that I am watching/ have watched right now(horary for vacations right)

  • penny dreadful: It has Eva green cast as Miss Vanessa Ives, she is a great actress and as such she does an excellent job at playing this role, besides her the show also boasts of several other great actors and the story is developing very well it has a total of 2 seasons and 14 episodes out yet but the show has a very good rhythm that it builds up over its course drawing you in, also really Eva green I mean damn.

  • buffy the vampire slayer: Yes its old but there is a reason why it is still so loved, this show has the best character development for ALL the characters in it(even the secondary ones) there is a series wide growth in characters specific theme for each season(yes she saves the world every season but the theme is very different each season) it has some of the most heartbreaking scenes shown on television and also some of the best season finales, you can also watch angel and immerse yourself even more in this world, but do your self a favour and don't watch the remastered version watch the old one with the funky screen aspect ratio otherwise you will be wondering what some of the vampires are doing lounging around at the day time, also bonus you can see willow go through a growth that may be fantastical in nature but the growth at least remains very grounded for me.

  • person of interest: The 4th season finished for this show and although from the start it had a strong female presence, the premise is very interesting and also it has my favourite person in the entire world amy acker playing as a psychotic hacker who then redeems herself and finds love in an unlikely place, I ship them so hard still my heart hurts.

Since so many people said psycho pass, you can surely go for Tokyo ghoul, the tone stays consistent throughout if only getting a bit darker as the series progresses. Tokyo Ghoul is a little bit gory so I don't know if you could watch it with your parents but its good, still its pretty gory so watch out for that.
You can also try cowboy bebop, its a classic, like my brother got me into anime with this show, its like one of the top tier shows, so you probably saw it.
I don't know if the anime is any good but the getbackers manga is a very good way to spend your afternoons, its very light on the tone but it does have some fan service so you may not like it but at least they explain that the characters are perverts at the very start of the manga and this strangely makes the fan service somehow okay for me.

Reading a few of the comments here really made me wish for a like button, the comments were so funny and some were even insightful which was really nice, they truly improved my view of this series, but then maybe they have always been like this and I noticed just now.....too long a rant. kthnxbye

If I had to say something about this, I'd probably call it a story about being in love with a chronically depressed person? I feel like it all fits together, in that light. Her empty room, her unsociable nature, the way she was always tired and late to class even though she was never really busy, her cold refusal to connect with the people who care about her in spite of her private sentimentality and longing for contact, the aimlessness of drifting around in college with no meaningful intention of graduating, her vague decision to "travel", with no particular destination, even though she'd necessarily been saving up money for years to do so, her mysterious end in some far away place, where nobody knew who she was... Oh, come to think of it, in that last scene with Ai, she freely gives away the books she'd chosen to take with her, returning the lighter, uncharacteristically letting Ai see more of her feelings than probably anyone else has in years. It's actually quite normal behaviour, among people who have decided to commit suicide. As is everything we ever saw of her.

If it's like that, it's understandable why the entire story seemed so lacklustre and nonsensical for many people. The behaviour of depression is basically incomprehensible if you try to rationalise it in terms of how healthy people think, no wonder it makes no sense. It's alienating, but to a very specific kind of person, it feels deeply, chokingly familiar.

Man. Now I want a cigarette.

Well thank you for writing this, I would've never seen the series in the light that you described it as, it actually makes sense if you look at it that way, but the other girl still being in love with the person just doesn't seem to be a possibility...or maybe it does because of what she says at the airport, but does a sudden revelation such as what the light haired girl seem to have had change your personality type which seemed to be one of a pragmatic person not interested in love, to one of the waiting for you always type of woman?

Half of the fun of stories like this is to come read the comments of confused and disappointed people trying to find their sickeningly sweet fluffy times ending. To be fair this one did not quite earn the ending it tried to sell, some of the drama was a bit, hmm, sudden and flimsily established to really be convincing. Ah well. There have certainly been more convoluted developments, and Ai seems content enough with where she ended up though the eerily similar looking half-sibling (I forgot the gender!) of Tomo seemed unnecessary. If anything I am kind of fed up with lack of fluff always labeled sad and/or bad around here.

I am not calling this a bad story because it wasn't fluffy I am calling this a bad story because the 2nd half of the series seemed to be directionless, like I know the story was not going to end with them being together and even if the character with the longer hair seemed to end up where she did, and that it made sense within the story, my issue with this is the fact that while reading it you could feel the fact that the author wanted the ending to be sad and didn't really know how to reach that point so what we got was, as you said a convoluted storyline which just seems like such a waste because the first 2 chapters held the promise of it being something better.

I loved reading the hobbit as a kid, plus its a really fun and different experience if someone is reading it out loud for you, its one of the few books which i find to be better read out loud to me by someone than just reading it by myself

What I liked about Machiavelli was the whole 'The Prince' joke.

boo, really boo

Edit: I would rather not have an internet debate about the prince here, however i don't think the prince is a joke despite the borgia(spelling?) guy
P.S.: he still checks many of machiavelli's criteria so much so that its pretty understandable why nicoli has such a crush on him.
