I’m amazed, this is as real as it gets, I feel like I’m reading a real life portrait, the characters are so realistic

Heh, yeah.
Quiz: how many different earrings has Miwa used in the 3 chapters so far? ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)

guys don't be so so greedy >_> this series is already plenty cute and i don't think my heart can handle it if it goes any gayer.

Word, lol. Adorable series.

Subtext tag for now i guess?

If there's a Yuri tag, there's gotta be yuri in there somewhere... the yuri is coming, slowly but it's coming...

Oh man, was it in 2013 that chapter 1 was translated?
Talk about nostalgic... (´༎ຶ ͜ʖ ༎ຶ `)♡

According to Baka-updates, this manga is completed with 1 volume out, and the 7 chapters translated so far amount to 72 pages... hm, I guess it means we are about halfway through the volume?

In Japan, the age of consent is 13 but a person is considered a minor until they're 20

Each prefecture has their own age of consent. Most are 18 like in the US, none of them drop below 16 (again like the US). Don't go to Japan assuming it's 13.

Looking around, Japanese people seem to generally get pretty annoyed at foreigners spreading the whole 13 thing around.

Nezchan, that's because the Japanese don't like to have their national secrets revealed, lol.

The age of consent in Japan is 13 years old. That's it, period, full stop. Enough with this discussion already! The age of consent is the minimum age at which an individual is considered legally old enough to consent to participation in sexual activity, and it's 13. Individuals aged 12 or younger in Japan are not legally able to consent to sexual activity, individuals aged 13 or older are able to consent according to national law.

The source of confusion is that many prefectures also have local "obscenity" or "corruption of minors" statutes which raise the de-facto age of consent to 16-18. For example, the effective age of consent in Tokyo by local statute is 18. These statutes are not laws, they are just local ordinances and don't carry the force of law. And, of course, national agencies of law enforcement do not concern themselves with prefectural ordinances. What does this mean? It means that, as it happens, all those tens of thousands of manga stories where you see high school girls and middle school girls have sex are, in fact, a faithful depiction of realistic behaviors. Because most Japanese youths don't give a damn about those dumb ordinances.

Anyone wants to read more about this, just go here for complete and detailed info:

https://www.ageofconsent.net/world/japan

And I really hope people will now stop trying to debate these plain facts. The whole Japanese laws thing has run its course already. Let it rest, geez.

Messed up has such a negative and "crazy" connotation to it so i disagree there and that Yuu is letting herself be taken advantage of. Touko certainly is taking advantage of Yuu's feelings and kindness, at least to start though not maliciously, but Yuu has also been a willing and enabling participant.

Yeah, she's interested in the sexxay, lol.
I liked a lot that side of the character. Schoolgirls in manga often seem to have zero libido (or close to), and I always thought that it was unrealistic. They should be more like the girls in Ayame 14, with a strong interest in all things ecchi. In that aspect, Yuu doesn't disappoint: in the first chapters, she clearly says that even though she doesn't love Touko she's willing to do lover-like things with her, like kissing, deep kissing, petting, etc. Why? Because she wanna try those things and Touko is a perfect practice partner because Touko is so cool and beautiful!!! Now that's what I call a realistic, believable reason, lol. This sort of admission is so uncommon even Touko is a bit scandalized, which imho is kinda dumb: she should instead have praised Yuu for her candid sincerity!

Great point—the obvious way for this to go was either toward twisted sex games or absurd comedy. Holding it on its course as a combination of charming romantic comedy and low-key drama has required an expert skipper at the wheel of a finely tuned craft.

Word. I've just finished reading the 35 chapters (plus extras) in one sitting, and I'm amazed at how good this manga is. The exploration of slightly warped psychologies and behaviors in teenaged school kids is at the level of, say, Fumiko Fumi's best stuff.

Now I'm really worried about the coming anime. Hope they get it right. :/

... and instead we got to see four students get kicked out of the council room (literally, not metaphorically: the kick is so hard, they go flying out of the door) while Tsubaki yells: "And don't ever return, you losers, or yer gonna make me REALLY angry!"

It's not that surprising if you consider that this manga is full of angry & violent people. Like, half of the cast have anger management problems...

I think what I'm trying to say is, I wish we didn't have the drunken mixer as a way for them to have slept together and instead just have them idk flirting on the bus or something

There are truckloads of stories out there where one or both of the girls are drunk when they sleep together for the first time. It's like the oldest plot device in the book.

If you disapprove of this storyline, you'll have to forsake an enormous chunk of the best yuri series out there. Just sayin'.

Sweet Guilty Love Bites
Lily Marble
Original Mikanuji Yuri
The sea, you, and the sun

Just to name a few titles off the top of my head.

BTW, this particular manga is not an example of this trope. College girl was already sober when they left that first diner, and she went to the other woman's place fully expecting to have sex. She's all like "omg are we going to shag or did I misread the clues?" up to the point when the other lady tells her in an unmistakable way that she wants to do her -- and she answers that she wants it even more.

Also, as we found out just now, they didn't even had sex that first night, lol.

This story is so pure and wholesome. <3

Oh man, thank you for showing me this.

Same here! This is lovely!!!
The girls doing the voices are SO good!

They've voiced up to chapter 8, which is one more chapter than the scanlation. Which means there's no English translation for chapter 8. But I think I understood most of it even without an English version at hand, lol.

Good call there. I hadn't noticed it at all. You're absolutely right: when Ren and Sui are standing next to each other, the author makes a point of drawing Ren with a very visible Adam's apple on his neck, while Sui has nothing. I was persuaded that Sui was gay, but, now that you pointed out that thing with their Adam's apples, it's clear that "he" will turn out to be a "she" who happens to be a natural otokoyaku.

Yeah, and judging by what she says in the last panel it's pretty much a given that she's into women. She's a lesbian who crossdresses, the better to seduce the gurlz.

My question at this point is: what was Murata thinking, bringing a woman to a mixer as one of the guys? Don't tell me he doesn't know that his friend Ren's one sibling is not a brother but a sister?

IMHO he had no idea, cuz Ren never told him that Sui's a girl. Sui seems to have adopted a "male role" in life, she prolly wants to live her life as a boy, so she must have told Ren to keep it a secret that she's f.

Otokoyaku? Whut’s Dat? Someone clue me in, please?

Women who play male parts in Takarazuka Revue are referred to as otokoyaku. If you never heard of that before, try here for info:

And also: thumbs up to Sexy Akiba Detectives, the scanlators! I love when a Japanese manga with a college setting (read: sex, booze, clubs & parties) is translated this way, making the characters sound just like their Western counterparts would in a similar ambience.

I completely agree with you. It fits perfectly and adds a lot a value to the manga.

Me three! I shoulda mentioned that in my previous message: the wonderful work of the scanlators, who are trying really hard to be faithful to the spirit of the original, adds a lot to my enjoyment of this story.

«You're makin' it sound like she SUCKS HUGE ELEPHANT NUTS at singin'!!»

I SO AGREE

Both the dialogues and the art are great. And the story is something you don't find so often: cute, funny, non-angsty yuri between legally adult women who work or are in college. I love it when scanlators pick a manga like this. Add to it the recent release of Original Mikanuji Yuri and, wow, I feel so loved and treasured these days, lol.

The two best comments so far:

Lol, it's the Bakarina of yuri.

Haha, I totally get the reference! (I wonder how many do? I bet not a lot...) I loved that novel so much! But, y'know, there was yuri in Bakarina's life: almost half of her harem was girls!

Kaos-sensei finally got serialised.

This. I wish I've been the one to think of this. Good call! It's amazing how much this 4-koma manga reads and looks like something designed and drawn by Kaosu-chan. Two thumbs up for your discerning eye!

Well done, you two! :D

Alright, I'll bite. What's ABO?

It's short for alpha/beta/omega. It's a kink trope very popular in certain American circles. I gotta say, I too I'm surprised it has reached Japan.

In typical ABO there are three biological-psychological classes to which a character can belong. Combine with the two genders (male and female) and you get a grand total of six sexual roles or patterns of sexual behavior. The 3 classes are Alphas, Betas and Omegas.

Alphas are usually dominant and able to impregnate any Omega. Betas are like normal humans and subordinate to Alphas. Omegas are natural-born submissive bottoms, with males who are self-lubricating and can become pregnant.

I don't see anything in the story, that supports your claims, that Tomoko, and Michiko are in happy marriages.

Oh, for crying out loud... have you even read the chapter? Walking together with big smiles, texting their friends messages with hearts and sparkles, that little girl full of pep who was able to interact with unknown adult women in such a plucky and confident way... Of course they are in warm & happy marriages! Everything we see screams happiness! There isn't even the shadow of a hint that it may be otherwise!

Even Takabe was jealous of their obvious cheerfulness and wanted them to invite her next time. Duh.

I absolutely would love to see a manga series about domestic lesbian parents. Just a couple of gay women trying to make there way through a heteronormative world.

I see. My recommendation is: forget manga and go read a book by some American lesbian feminist. You'll find the stuff you like a-plenty.

Cuteness. <3 Even though I think Miu/Chika is otp. But cuteness nonetheless.

Recently, a few extra chapters of IM have been released. I think they are recent works, that Barasui drew for some special occasion. They are in most online readers, if you wanna look at 'em.

btw on that subject: sorry if it's a silly question but I can't find IM in Dynasty reader... is there a reason why it's not here?

JFC, demanding sex is never okay. Demanding sex is never okay. Jesus. Fucking. Christ. Sex is never an ultimatum, that's rape. Sorry if I take rape apologists too personally, but I ran out of capacity to forgive someone who decides they're entitled to sex.

This is so sick. I can't even begin to figure what kind of twisted shit goes through your mind to make you hate sex so much. It's like, in all the incredibly wide range of human activities and interests, you condone everything but sex; you hand-pick sex and throw it in a separate moral category as something dirty, harmful and horrible. I actually feel a little sorry for you, you poor thing. I'm guessing an overdose of Dworkin & McKinnon left you with a pathological fear of sexual relations, and now the only thing you barely tolerate is armpit sex?

That's the story I always remember when someone claims that you shouldn't go after a married woman because you cannot win against her hubby. Actually, you don't know, and you'll never know until you try. That's what Mikage learns, repeatedly, in this manga: every time she starts thinking to herself "I'm doomed, this won't work, she'll never say yes, I'll just get hurt..." she nevertheless goes and gives it a try. And it works. Just like that. All the way to the end when she and Suwako elope together.

This is a very Japanese way of thinking. In the West, most people are terrified of trying and failing, because they fear they will be mocked and branded as losers. In Japanese media, the prevalent message is: if you want something, go for it and do your best! If you fail, you'll have no regrets -- because, if you couldn't get it even after trying your best, it means that it was always beyond your reach. But if you give up without even trying, you'll live the rest of your life with bitter remorse -- wondering if perhaps you could have succeeded, if only you'd had the courage to try.

Ah, I get it now. Cool! I'm totally gonna read that story. It reminds me of another short manga, "A Pitiable Boss And A Pathetic Liason" by Amano Shuninta, where the MC faces the same problem. The woman she likes is married, and, what's more, is also her boss at work; which is to say, one wrong step and she could even get fired! Well, in the climactic scene, she hugs her boss and moves for a kiss... and her boss, after the initial surprise, blushes, closes her eyes and puckers up! And the MC thinks: THIS IS A TRIUMPH FOR THE AGES!!! Like that, in big capitals, lol. I really loved that scene. This is the page:
