Mulling it over further (as one does while driving a semi), I also like the expanded ending because it provides narrative structure to what were previously isolated instances in the story. The boys trying to buy soda for Yamada at the water park, the boys who accidentally kicked Yamada with the soccer ball, the boys on the plane, even the drunks at the airport.

Previously, they were just ways to show off how protective Kase was of her Boo. Now they have import they didn't have before. She was dealing with her insecurities in those instances, not just being Supergirlfriend.

I dig it.

If you look at the submissions tagged with this tag, though, you will find that none of them actually have JPG artifacts.

What they have are visibly jagged lines which clearly indicate their "created on a computer using a low-rez drawing program" origin. Or at least the low-rez option on a high-end drawing program. (As opposed to being drawn on paper and then scanned in, or drawn on a drawing tablet with a program designed to mimic drawing on paper.)

Lots of Low Resolution Graphics might be a better tag, but I don't actually care enough to stump for it.

So here's the thing I like about the expanded ending: It provides context for Kase-san's demand that Yamada not wear the frilly apron.

In the original, it made her seem kinda pushy and possessive. But in the new tank, we see that she's just as insecure about certain things as is Yamada. It gives her a vulnerability that she didn't have in the original, and makes her seem less like a picture-perfect girlfriend. And I think the story benefits from that.

What's the point of writing a sequel if the whole thing is gonna be flashbacks to the time before the previous series ended?

I'd bet a shiny new nickel that this chapter and the last chapter will show up in the next tank before the chapter where they have sex. The author's afterword in Vol 4 indicates that there will be another volume, but there are only two stories left in the original run: Yamada goes to take her exam, and Yamada and Kase do the big nasty for the first time. Which is (A) not a lot of material for a tank; and (B) something you'd want as the climax of a tank, rather than a story you run into 1/3rd of the way through.

So I'm guessing you'll see this flashback and the previous flashback used to pad out the next volume in such a way that Kase and Yamada finally doing the do will be the end of the volume. Especially since this most recent chapter isn't even framed in the narrative as a flashback, so it can very naturally slot right in as the first chapter of the next volume.

Yeah, there's definitely the bedroom scene from Volume 3 there. But the name Morning Glories also suggests the 1st volume. So....everything but volume 4?
