I relate to that far too well. Just hit 40, tired of the world--but tired of being single too. Not a great combination to juggle. I don't usually like the stories with cheating for Reasons but I identify with her. (Since the bulk of most yuri seems to be focused on younger folks, it's a nice change of pace for me.)

I don't know if this is helpful at all, but I'm on a very fixed income and the VPN I sub to is called Private Internet Access (PIA). It's $6.95/mo (US), cheaper than most. I have Comcast as a provider so between PIA and using TOR I'd like to think I can manage some small amount of privacy...

I was always, and still am, terrible at socializing except in my case it was pretty much intentional. ^^;

I didn't get formally diagnosed with Asperger's till about nine years ago. Up to that point, it was just three+ decades of "WTF how come this crap comes naturally to everyone but me? ARGH HOW DO I PEOPLE?!". Now it's been four decades, and I can people a lot better than I did in my teens and twenties--even thirties--by virtue of far too much experience via my attempts to be social "crashing and burning in front of my eyes". The road to get to this point was dark and full of terrors... the memories of awkward moments that will forever haunt my dreams at night... lol.

I'm glad she didn't do the kiss and how she thought that she would rather be the one kissed seems more her character also.

Well, that, and, yannow, consent is sexy, I'm glad Adachi figured that out. "How the kiss came to happen mattered.". Gettin' smooched by your "friend" while you're sleeping and thus unable to say "aye" or "nay" is more than a tad creepy and insensitive.

Plus that particular trope has been overused IMO. Too many authors who can't figure out how to progress a relationship logically to the destination they want with the characters and situations they've developed, so resort to drastic (and usually kinda dumb) measures. It's not quite on par with the "running to school with a piece of toast hanging out of the mouth" or "accidentally run into someone who is also running and we both turn the same corner and OOPS WE KISSED" tropes that have been used to death... but still, overused.

I had a bit of a giggle when it finally hit Shimamura that going to Adachi's house might very well involve seeing Adachi's mother. I'm sure that's something that will be part of a later chapter, ha.

Okay, question. In Ch 2, when it's December and she's talking about how cold it is, why is the air conditioner on? Shouldn't it be the heater?

I actually questioned the same thing when I was doing my thing. Later on, I Googled it. Japanese air conditioners are magical things that can do both cooling and heat. Here's a snazzy info page about how to use one if you're ever a lost little gaijin and need to use one. One of the functions explained/translated is heater mode.

My take is that they got switched somehow when they were kids. So now both are actually back where they belong after the Real "Normal" Marika went and did whatever voodoo she had to do to make it happen.

Yup. Neither Mrs. Adachi nor the lady she was speaking to in the sauna before Shimamura inserted herself into their conversation gave "the difficult child" an actual gender. Mrs. Adachi catches on to the fact that Shimamura specifically said "she" as she's leaving, but seems to just chalk it up as overthinking.

I am looking forward to when Adachi brings her new girlfriend home to meet her family:

Yeah this one is just hot garbage. The story apparently set out to do absolutely every crappy yuri trope or perpetuate misinformation about "how lesbians work". (Seriously, I despise the whole "still a virgin even though we've totally been naked together and have been getting each other off in every other way imaginable aside from penetration" nonsense. And don't get me started about how so many authors seem to have no idea what a hymen really is, what it looks like, and how that bit of anatomy works in general...)

Plus the art is just... strange. I mean, who wants consistent character appearances or correct perspective?

Yeah that chapter was a little wacky. I mean, I knew it was Shimamura's turn for a chapter from her PoV, but still odd, especially with the creepy dude watching the children.

I also kept thinking "are you really that derpy, Shimamura? You think you're never gonna see Adachi's mother again? That she won't remember the sassy delinquent that challenged her to a sauna duel?" That'll be fun to explain one day, lol....

Hey I don't remember Adachi being soooooo awkward right from the start as some comments are claiming, you sure you're not mixing past and future event from the old one to judge only the beginning of the new one?

Pretty sure I'm not mixing up anything, since I have worked on all the releases as QC so far. I end up reading each chapter several times when I do that, so you could say I'm pretty familiar.

It's just my personal opinion that Adachi seemed less assertive in the original. I think a lot of the scene changes that were made so far in this new version have trimmed out some of the interaction that had her being awkward or blushy. We'll just have to wait and see what's up with the changes and pacing to see if that trend continues.

So, this Alien girl will be just like Mikitaka from JoJo, right? Like, you'll never know if they're actually aliens or just weird people.

As far as I know, she IS actually an alien. She's a carryover character from something else by the author.

Also, there are now two versions of this manga. The new version is here: https://dynasty-scans.com/series/adachi_and_shimamura_moke_ver . For right now, at least, Yashiro has been redacted in this new version.
