True, but it's more while children and teens in general are usually forbidden from looking at porn, girls are expected to never see porn, talking openly about sex and in general be innocent, pure, little angles their entire life. There's no such stigma for boys to talk or even think about sex. In fact boys, of any age, using naughty words, saying dirty jokes and sexually harassing someone is seen as boys being boys, while girls doing the same thing is considered unladylike.

I agree. I prefer when men are present and nice, but girls still choose girls over them. Also while having some social pressure can help in making story feel more realistic and adding something for characters to worry about, I also like stories that don't make that big deal out of it and simply treat homosexuality as something normal and existing next to all the het people. It makes it feel like part of normal life rather than something unique or out of ordinary. It helps to normalize it and maybe one day it'll become our reality.

It's actually not as implausible as you think. Obviously we don't know her entire life, so it's hard to explain everything, but for once she might simply never fallen in love with other woman or encounter her type. In most countries homosexuality is neither accepted nor legal. Considering how heteronormative most societies are, how rarely the topic comes up in real life or fiction and that being open about it can often give you more troubles than it's worth, so you might live your entire life never encountering it, not realizing you're gay and instead assuming there's something wrong with you doesn't sound that unresonable.

I think that it's exactly meant to be a joke how nobody ever figures out identities of magical girls despite them looking exactly the same and only changing costumes, which also happens to work like convenient explanation so you won't question it. Also something, something, don't expect a serious explanation in comedy manga.

I don't see why they wouldn't follow the game. Sure it's not 100% faithful adaptation (manga is), but it still adopts source material and the fact they actually try to fit the story to anime format and medium, rather than just copy past it from game, gives me even more confidence the anime will be great. Also I think the changes they made actually makes more sense in the story.

That would make sense as there are currently 2 arcs going and first one should easily fit into 13 episodes season, so second one would probably air once arc 2 concludes in the game.

the point is that Nika's answer is vague and does not really address the question. "Oh huh, I mean I want to get to know you better so let's date?" If she'd said, "Yeah, I guess I don't mind dating girls, but I've never really met a girl I liked before" that'd be different (but that might be an issue of the translation, though).

She can't say "I don't mind dating girls", because she don't know that. She never dated or liked one, so how can she say that? She said "I never dated girl before, but I want to try". She didn't know if she can like girls that way or not, so that's why she decided to try dating Kurumi and getting to know her better, before assuming it's impossible. If anything I think it's way more progressive approach than usual immediate rejection. And from what we could see she actually do start to develop feelings for her. The thing is, while she does, she still has some lingering feelings for Jun and Kurumi wants her to solve that first, because that's more pressing issue at hand. She can't really focus on just dating Kurumi and figuring her own feelings toward her, while actively ignoring her past with Jun. Once she sorts her feelings for Jun for good, she can focus 100% on Kurumi and what she really feels about her.

Also my point was that Kurumi already asked her about it and she got a "I don't know, I want to give it a shot" answer and she agreed to that. What else she's supposed to do? Ask Nika every week or something on her thoughts and if she's gay yet? They're dating. It will either work out or not. Constantly asking Nika for feedback and pressuring her to figure out if she is bi or not already would be counterproductive and just straight rude. Kurumi is giving her time she needs. They can always break up. There's no like contract or time limit to it. There's no obligation or requirement to fulfil.

It reads to me like this manga is addressing Nika's sexuality in a CODED way,

by making the central conflict about this one particular guy rather than about whether or not she's actually into girls.

From the start it was about Nika's feeling for Jun though. The fact she started to develop feelings for Kurumi and tries to figured out if it's friendship or love is important, but her feelings for Jun is what kick-started entire series, so they need to be addressed. Just because series is called "Between Philia and Eros" it doesn't mean it has to be all that it's about.

It makes the whole thematic meaning confusing, because it's a huge difference if a bi girl is philia towards another girl she's trying to date, or if a straight girl is trying to turn the philia she's capable of into eros.

It really sounds more like you're focusing on it so much, because you're afraid Nika might not be capable of developing love for Kurumi, and that would mean sad ending so you want to be prepared for that. And again, whatever she's capable of dating another girl, as in, being straight or bi, is the entire premise of the story. I was implying in my previous post that you're supposed to wait and see how Nika is going to solve those questions and what answer she'll come up with. Also again, one way to figure out if you can date other girl is, you know, trying to date other girl?

JJzo, I understand your reaction to that post, but the reason people here react so strongly about seeing that kind of relationships as "just friends" is exactly because so many times in stories lesbian representation was either denied by other people excusing it as just being "close friends" or authors themselves, writing what is basically a attraction and calling it "gals being pals" cough Hibike cough. People are simply tired of arguing over and over again, that the same cues and hints that in any story with girl and a guy would be immediately interpreted by majority of people as romance or attraction, without any issue or controversy, with 2 girls are always dismissed as just "close friends" and require some additional proof or confirmation.

We're simply starved for representation that mainstream media is just not giving us, so whenever something does pop up and then you have thousands of people trying to argue that it doesn't count, while enjoying their 1000th obligatory het romance story, it does feel pretty irritating (not to say homophobic).
