Also I kind of wish that earlier chapters to... whatever chapter later on just didn't exist. Not because of "moral" issues but because they break the tone of these characters so much and still are sort of "canonically" in there.

Some people forgive any crap from their heroes/idols/important/rich people, no matter what they do, and the opposite is that some people never forgive the past, real or fictional persons, no matter what happens, and that removes a big incentive for people to change.

This isn't a deep observation, everything (tm) just sucks balls through a thin tube right now in my head.

Well not SPECIFICALLY, shipping singers is bad, shipping actors is bad, shipping people you know from work is bad.

Some people do think shipping fictional people is also creepy, and some other people think your ship is bad because but their ship is good because. Those kinds of people can suck on wood. Ship anime or comic characters you want.
Hell, ship Jack Sparrow and Will Turner if you can separate them from Depp and Bloom. Many people can't or don't want to, but maybe you can.
By this standard, sure, ship "Calliope Mori" and "Kiara Takanashi". Whoever is the person behind the avatar isn't actually a reaper or a respawning chicken. But never bring it up with the actual people who are not just playing, but also "are" their characters, much more than Sean Connery "was" James Bond.

Are writers consistent with this stuff? Not really, everyone has their own rules.

Most doujins I've seen include the explanation on the first page or as a "teacher teaches children" moment in the beginning.
Of course it can well be that it's a rote standard explanation the doujin's setting itself doesn't necessarily follow, they aren't generally translated.
