I like the description about days spent by the inklab, because it tells us that the relationship between Chinami and Yukako has always been rather formless and abstract, focused more around simply being rather than pursuing anything or looking for romantic goals. In that sense, you could say it's less driven than a conventional marriage with 'objectives' of cohabitation and childhood, but as Yukako is starting to realize, that comfortable, companionable warmth might be precisely what she wanted her entire life. This isn't a steamy kind of affair- it's an attempt to reconnect, and find some semblance of satisfaction.

Chinami going on the offensive is great to see, because she's done playing the patient, invisible lover. She realizes that the their relationship only really became intimate once she took charge back when they were teenagers, and understands that she needs to do so again, because Yukako isn't strong enough. She'll invite Chinami in, let her get a foot in the door, but that's pretty much it- the rest is up to Chinami and her confidence. At last, we're approaching equivalency, as both parties to the affair reveal and seize their true desires.

Also, Dickey Spouse getting an SSR made me chuckle, because depressed salarymen seeking happiness in gacha waifus is quite realistic. If nothing else, he's used up all his luck for a while.

I’m wondering if we’re ever getting back to Upstairs Gamer Lady and her lost delivery girl.

Not to mention whatever role Part-time Job Kouhai has to play.

Whoa, I'd completely forgotten about them until I saw them mentioned here. Most yuri manga really aren't kind to their side characters- forget personal fulfilment, they'd be lucky to achieve their full use as plot devices.

There exist people who cover themselves in mountain dew before taking a shit, who only fuck during full moons, who think a garbage bag will protect them covid.

This somehow justifies this stories leaps in logic which everyone in the story views as completely normal and is definitely not a total non sequitur, I am very wise

Precisely. I'm glad you understand.

If a straight male coworker of mine came into work tomorrow and told me he married his platonic female friend just cuz’ I would tell him that was the most insane shit I’d heard in my life

Also I don’t know if you live under a rock or at the Elvis themed chapel in Vegas but thats not how marriage usually works “these days”

There exist couples who get into amateur BDSM and need to call the police to get them out of handcuffs, people who take shits on each other every Sunday, people who get into heterosexual marriages to conceal their homosexual liaisons, people who use websites to track marriage partners or put ads in the paper so they don't end up single post-30 and people who get hitched because they had sex at midnight in a gas station bathroom, but live in a country where abortions are illegal. Surprise, surprise, diverse situations and individuals exist, and the planet doesn't end at the edges of your neighborhood.

Regardless, my original post explains the issue from an angle that examines and justifies the tropes put into use and acknowledges the way premises and demographics work for romantic fiction. Your post draws on your own hyper-subjective experience, which I'm guessing is not relevant here, and from a mildly condescending conclusion about how marriages work everywhere, which I'm assuming is also subjective. So maybe take a second to think carefully about you're what reading before lobbing rocks at people for not seeing 2-dimensional lesbians in the same way you do.

^ I'm aware, but I assumed that the organization that made her a supersoldier and experimented on her was probably a Russian one operating in Ukraine, since the 'Russian supersoldier' is a pretty popular trope and it would make very little sense for Ukraine to have an independent mahou shoujo child soldier manufacturing program (unless Izumo's universe features secret bases in every country that perform clandestine operations to abduct and/or raise young magical girls).

So Momo's a magical girl, a fit lesbian and a Russian supersoldier? If it wasn't for the crippling PTSD, I'd be almost jealous of all the cool tropes she gets to have.

Saku's art goes really well with Starlight's aesthetic. Also, I like how Maya drew on Hikari's 'steal everything I am' line.

^ The PV image looks so good. ZLS was a big hit, so I hope they get more resources and a better schedule this time around. I'm not expecting much on the yuri front, though a show that's got good trans rep shouldn't have any qualms branching out to lesbians. At any rate, I hope it's as ambitious and stereotype-challenging as season one. The vast majority of idol shows are shallow bilge, so I've never really liked the genre, but ZLS, for all its absurdity, really impressed with all the heart and guts it had (no zombie jokes intended).

Azuma is so good with hairdos. Sanae's little braids were very cute, and Sakuya's parting elevates her from 'chick magnet' to 'catnip for lesbians'. I also like how Sanae's rural roots were explored instead of just making her an Akihabara export like so many other doujins do. Azuma continues to lend beloved characters incredible freshness and make up for the drought in official content these past few months.

'Live a happy and fulfilling life so you can die one day and meet your family in heaven' is so oddly contradictory that it circles back into common sense. It feels like Shiori is simply telling Hinako to accept the cycle of life and the march of time, and will consume her only after she's lived a long, happy life, just like a peaceful, natural death. If she's a gourmet, then maybe she just likes aged wines, and will only eat Hinako once she's a vintage 80 years old.

It'd be hilarious if this got a sequel in which the other girl wanders off again and comes back as an actual ghost, but the first just doesn't buy it.

So you want one of them to die

Not necessarily. Maybe the (hypothetical) ghost was just knocked out of her physical body and is more like a wandering soul. Part 3 could be about looking for the body, only to find it possessed by the actual ghost of a lesbian who never found love. Part 4 could conclude with a comfy human, spirit and sock puppet polycule.

^ Luminous=Blue. And yeah, I'm not sure why it doesn't have the poly tag, because the ending was very definitely poly, much to the ire of folks who felt it was rushed.

Useless lesbians grow progressively more hysterical as sexual tension rises. Therefore, a cute girl getting naked before them will short-circuit their brains all the way back into clarity. Sasuga, Kozakura.

Makes sense that Hole-sensei feels better when the school turns vertical. Pits are normally angled down, making them primally terrifying. But if the world drops on its side, then pits just become tunnels that connect places and people. Moon logic at its finest.

I'm normally not a fan of oblivious characters with lesbian satellites, but there's something very likeable about Mihoko. She's been through some disappointments and hard times, probably acts cheerier than she actually is, and yet has a sort of old-fashioned, wise kindess that feels very appropriate to her age. She's not just a MILF for the kink, but an actual woman approaching middle age with the perspective to show for it.

I feel like we're in a golden age of lesbian escort service stories. This is a pretty good addition to the growing genre- the art, excepting a few cases of breast flotation syndrome, is godly; the characters are interesting and relatable, and the ending is optimistic without being too saccharine.

I particularly loved the multi-layered Cinderella parallels with Ringo- the nightly mystique of the escort service is her version of the ball, but she also becomes a true princess after finding her prince (and Kobayashi's definitely gotta be loaded to afford all those sessions). Time and time again, she constructs her own fairytale persona, but true love is found when she reveals her real self to the persistent prince and is graciously accepted. The name of the hotel that they confessed their feelings in also being Cinderella made me chuckle, though.

I feel like a lot of people are overvaluing the marriage in this case. The series takes place in a world where same-sex marriage is legalized and two women do it on a whim with zero social stigma, suggesting that it's roughly as acceptable as het marriage, at least in their general social circles. Lots of people get hitched on an impulse- marriage these days is just a matter of submitting the right documentation to an office, not some glorious union of destined love. It's not particularly inconvenient, they're on excellent terms with each other, and the whole thing is basically glorified cohabitation for the sake of wacky humour. Heck, it's even acknowledged in-universe as the premise of Kurumi's manga- people see the title, get intrigued by the premise and its potential for unique dynamics, and follow the narrative thanks to the novelty.

Just like the readers in-universe, we're trying to resolve the traditionally romantic connotations of marriage with a more realistic, formalized arrangement that resembles it in legal status alone, and wondering if reversing the order could lead to the same result. It's a premise that's been used to jump-start romance in countless series, het or otherwise, and I'd say that Shio giving it a legal basis, a genuine in-universe reason that reflects the process of the manga's creation, and a shared history between good buddies makes this one of the most realistic takes on the 'marriage-before-romance' story type.

"I'm not trapped in here with you. You're trapped in here with me."
"And also, both our partners are trapped in a relationship plagued by infidelity, but- okay, we've run out of dialogue, time for hot roleplay sex, I guess."

Mildly unnecessary cheating aside, this was fun. I guess some folks aren't satisfied with kinky roleplay and need actual moral bankruptcy to really get their engines revving. Can't see it ending well, but at least the ride was entertaining.

Those spoilers sound insane. Then again, I kinda felt like the WN ought to have ended after the first arc, since it was a largely self-contained, well-planned story with decent developments and resolutions. Arc 2 never quite cut it for me, but if the spoilers hold true, then it might be worth reading, if only because they basically sound like edgy, trippy fanfic written by the author themselves, which could either make a brilliant change of pace or a beautiful trainwreck.
