Like they definitely wanted to keep as many lines as possible. but they did also make a whole thing of it, and it is addressed. It's really different from a game like FGO where the female protag really does just feel like a tacked-on option.

^^^^It kind of is at some level, I guess? but there's enough effort put into both games that it's not actually like that--it feels more like Nasu is intentionally evoking that kind of thing that's frequently done for the sake of the characters. Tamamo's history is basically entirely with men and she's only really fooled around with girls before, and this is addressed directly between the two characters. But she's attracted to Hakuno because she still acts "like a hot guy" in the sense of like. Boldness, resoluteness, occasionally even smoothness. It does kind of suit her like that.

i really liked the musings on love in this one. i think there's not enough popular acknowledgement of the ways in which love is horrific, a violation in the integrity of the self that comes from without and causes you to change and act in ways that you can't fully control. It's so often treated as something fluffy and beautiful, but i think using the language of craving and addiction and corruption to express its power is also really valuable.

Yeah I like that one. Damn that really fucking hurts though, like that's no small thing. Mei never figured out what Chiharu's thought process was, so to her it's just. The most painful straight girl trap experience you could imagine, down to getting her hopes all the way up and then getting hit with the classic "Lol can u imagine? that's not normal" killstroke.

Omg i love how gay this is getting in the last couple chapters. The author has been SO disciplined keeping the tone for like a hundred chapters and keeping things ambiguous to the point I was not entirely convinced this would be actual yuri and not just a subtext story about the way subcultures connect people. And now all of a sudden bam!!

Idk a lot of gay stories don’t have that type of restraint to meet characters where they’re at. It hits different to spend a lot of time with a character before the like. Gay Story part of things comes out, it makes them feel more believable. I love it.
