It's just odd to have same discussion that is one pages of the manga openly between people here. Everything was laid out bare, how it works in context of this particular story, what might become a problem for Ayaka and Hiroko in long term. Side characters even gave their analysis for it. It's super rare for things to be this clear-cut.

Hiroko is that hot'n'cool onee-san. Hiroko is on Ayaka's strike zone. Risa is a regular girl with regular height. Not Ayaka's type. Risa had about same amount of chance with Ayaka as some random nice person, and she was also bad at wooing someone who has a heartbreak.

That hot person might be a trash long term spouse, of course. But that is usually outside of purview of the story itself.

DomeKano is kind of just regular, bit raunchy soap opera, with an extra-stupid ending.

Problem with Japan are things like less than less than pointless censorship (it's even ran private business, and that business will butter up politicians to keep it that way), and attempts to always pretend relationships aren't often based on sexual intimacy first and other factors coming in play later. Leading to some weird stuff like "pure yuri", almost-but-not-quite homosexual "girlships" or Class S.

That's why DomeKano may seem out place, but it really is the contextual reality that is so twisted around it that it makes it stand out. Lot of that weirdness is also foreign import from a more puritan era, that Japan hasn't shaken off.

Where to start? There are already some really fucked up manga that were adapted as anime. Honestly, this story would look pretty regular next to Redo Healer or something gross like that.

There's even a very explicit yuri-service anime out there, Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid. I guess the upcoming Looking Up to Magical Girls will go somewhat in that group.

Only difference is that if this was to be adapted, it would at least treat sex and same-sex attraction with some respect (which is why I found ch. 17 off-putting), and not be just focused on revenge rape and torture, or just having boring, badly set up fanservice scene after another.

Everything until chapter 17 was... Not sure if it was good, but kind of bold and very nice visuals in all the right ways.

But 17 was like a scene from a cuckolding porn movie. I'm not sure what to make of Nanase's personality at this point. Of course, as a team athlete being out publicly is actually much harder than it is for a more regular person. But still, what a mess.

I have no idea what ch. 18 might be about, but glad to hear we will soon find out.

Haha that's totally because it's not so out of place for two female friends to do that even. I mean sure, she's crossing the line a little bit in this specific context but there's no context in which a girl pressing herself like that on a guy could be read as not provocative. With another girl it's just a mild sweet thing, it's not provocative like that haha.

Lot of hetero stories don't do good job at setting the stage. You'll just have a crazy woman or women throwing themselves at shy MC who doesn't even know who he likes, and it gets unpleasant. It's such a popular trope these days, with many many stupid examples of this same thing.

But if there are two people who have mutual attraction, then some skinship or cute seduction isn't anything terrible, it's just normal. Something like Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san is more sensible than most of the trash I mentioned earlier, but that's not exactly the way those things usually go.

We've known from the start here that Tsukushi and Hinoka are not only super duper childhood friends, but also in love with each other. So if anything, reader will think it is high time they start going out. There is no way any other person could get between them anyway, Hinoka's mom and her memories contextualized that. So you can enjoy the ride of Hinoka being good at seduction almost naturally without any big game plan, at least so far.

Fighting couple anthology? I hope it doesn't get much worse than that, these girls already have a one active volcano of a relationship, or maybe it should be called a ship with screw propulsion.

It's also not just that.

Some just outright don't rent to same-sex couples, unofficially. They'll give those excuses like finances to cover it up, but they may already have old tenants who are homophobic and would raise a ruckus if their neighbors are suddenly just gay.

What happened just recently was a court ruling that said the same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional. Just year before, other court said the ban is constitutional.

That opens the door to discuss the matter in political sphere seriously. But you still need to modify the Constitution to remove the bit "one man and one woman" from it, or find some kind of workaround.

Which is hard, because main party is quite conservative and tries to do all the same delays that were done in many western countries as well. Right now Japan is in the phase where it teeters between allowing "civil partnerships" across the country or not. Many locations have their own rules of that kind already, but there's no countrywide ruling.

Beta = usually regular human. No over the top rutting/horny mode.
Omega = Submissive, throws out super pheromones alphas cannot resist. In standard omegaverse, male omega can conceive and give birth (which is why this thing came to be originally, BL impregnation).
Alpha = Competitive and territorial, goes crazy for omega pheromones. Depending on the setting, female omegas may have something akin to penis that can be used to impregnate an omega.

Are writers consistent with this stuff? Not really, everyone has their own rules.

Arai Sumiko's art is just extremely good.

Unlike in many other serials, the world Arai shows to readers is little bit scruffy and lived in, things aren't perfect and there's tons of detail to be enjoyed. Which means you can just sink in the story easily as it doesn't look like a body soap or makeup commercial.

So Aikawa is clearly Katagiri's closet key. Rest of the story directly is quite vague, but it usually takes a volume or so to get things going.

More likely scenario is Mai will tell/ask Tae about romance and then Tae will avoid Mai after realizing how her first love will never come to pass because of the age gap. Maybe throw in some guilt about keeping Mai from people her own age as well.... then Mai will chase after Tae!

I feel like Mai will give the boy a "let me think about it", go through a short arc of figuring out her feelings (possibly by asking Tae about love, giving us flustered Tae comedy), then turn him down when she realizes she loves Tae.

Pretty much this, random-kun is just a plot device to spice things up. I hope the pace will pick up and we get more time skip's. It's cute and all but I wouldn't mind Mai getting older so things become more interesting.

But that would kill the main focus I guess

This one got axed, ending at chapter 32. Looks like one of those "this is last physical volume, so that's all space you have left" deals. Barring some omake epilogue.

I don't disagree with what is happening in the story (already read 31 with a final little reveal about Tae's past), but the pace is not going to be good. Unlike in most stories of this type, Tae is not a pedophile. She fell in love with Mai, because she looks like a gorgeous young adult model and her kindness. Mai's age is a true bother to her, to put it mildly. Which almost necessitates a lot of internal drama and some kind of solid decisions for it to make sense.

But being like this, it would have been better not to introduce those other kids and save those chapters for this last part to do it some justice.
