Is this a older comic? I was going "That doesn't look right"... was cute tho.

I think the doujin originally came out in 2012.

This is really neat, not a lot of zombie media goes into the rebuilding efforts that take place after the apocalypse, reminds me of the Zombie Survival Guide/World War Z books

Chiba Sadoru mentioned World War Z as one of his inspirations, specifically the part about the pilot who crashed in a red zone and was guided to safety by a voice she imagined on the other side of her radio, and I think he took a lot of ideas from it.

It's not actually about college, paying for college is just the only sacrifice she can actually stop Asahi from making to make her point. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she rescinded her refusal as soon as Asahi started making herself a priority.

I think the fact that it's college is important, and part of why this is the last straw for her. Subaru's graduation from high school is the first real chance she has to free Asahi from looking after her, and thus free herself from her guilt for dominating her sister's life. Going to university full time is committing to spending four more years as a dependent. And I think letting Asahi support her while she goes to college would really intensify her guilt, because then she'd be enjoying a privilege that Asahi herself had to give up.

It's still dumb to leverage your own future like that to make a point.

Recent research has uncovered an interesting fact. Sometimes human beings act irrationally because of this phenomenon known as "emotion".

I don't know, I do think Subaru is right that it kind of sucks ass for Asahi to use making sacrifices for her as an excuse to just not care about herself at all and make no effort towards her own happiness and dump the burden of feeling responsible for that onto a kid. Everything Asahi does revolves around Subaru and she's staked her entire identity on that and it must be a source of pretty major guilt that she's the reason her sister refuses to have anything for herself.

Sure, but the way she specifically used college as a way to make this point is incredibly dumb and childish. I'd hardly call it some unusual sacrifice for her to want her younger sister to go to college, that's normal.

Small typo on page 11 panel 3
"slep" -> "slept"

Also one on page 15
"right know," -> "right now,"

Thanks for that. I'll pass these along to the editor.

Was this the last chapter? Can't remember if there is one more or not before it ends.

Edit: I answered my own question, I guess there is one more!

How do you know how many chapters there are going to be? This was just published a few weeks ago.

I thought I saw something on the author’s Twitter about it coming to an end, but now I’ll have to dig through and try and find it again lol.

Okay. Galette announced that they'd be doing mostly oneshots this year, except for Liberty and My Cute Little Kitten, so I wondered if this was going to wrap up or if Morishima would continue releasing it on her own or something.

Reading this keeps reminding of Apt Pupil, the kind of story that really drags you into the filth and grinds your face in it. Though I'd be surprised if this gets anything near as extreme.

There are so many homonyms in Japanese that it's actually much harder to read something written entirely in kana.

Yet people understand spoken speech.

even where one word starts and another ends.

You can put spaces between words. I know Japanese don't know, but neither did Latin alphabet users, until we started to.

There's so much more information conveyed in spoken language than in most text. There's the pitch accent, emphasis, the general expressiveness of the human voice, and in most situations you can look at the person you're talking to so you get information from gestures and facial expressions. But even just listening to a recording of the human voice with no context conveys a lot distinguishing information that isn't there in most text.

Putting spaces between words would definitely help, as would using more punctuation. Maybe it's just habit and tradition that has people writing with kanji instead of just using kana for everything, but I do think it's also much easier and faster to read stuff using kanji than pure kana. Of course, the downside is that means people have to learn all the kanji.

Kinda makes you wonder why they bother with Kanji

I think at least a part of it is preservation. Yes, using any of the other scripts would technically be easier for people to deal with, especially foreigners. But if they only used hiragana or katakana, there's a fear that kanji would eventually become a dead script. Plus, aren't family names almost always in kanji anyway?

There are so many homonyms in Japanese that it's actually much harder to read something written entirely in kana. The kanji really help, otherwise it can take forever to puzzle out what each combination of syllables means, or even where one word starts and another ends.

Also, poor Takuya. This guy is being used and he doesn't even realize it.

I wonder if there's an agency somewhere that specifically deploys guys to hit on girls who seem to have romantic subtext. The dudes get their jaws broken, the relationship progresses thanks to the intensity of the situation, and the agency presumably compensates the victims based on the damage incurred and the degree of progress they brought about.

That's really the only plausible explanation. There are apparently hordes of these guys trolling the streets, parks, and beaches of every Japanese town and city. Must be where all the sales tax increase went.

Yeah, the previous girl was still talking after being drained, then she died. She's still sucking on Tina when the story ends, so we don't get to see the process complete.
I don't think the roses being stained red is conclusive either. It could be symbol of lost innocence or whatever, or it could just show that Veronica's breaking her long fast. She stopped liking red when she stopped drinking blood.

Either way it turns out, this is a pretty messed up story. After hearing Veronica's story and seeing how upset it made it her (so depressed that she's kept up her determination to kill herself for 100 years), it's a pretty fucked up thing to ask her to try it again.

One of her best about adult life, I'd buy the manga for sure to help support her. Hopefully it will be published one day.

If you want to support this series, it's serialized in Galette, a magazine that's sort of a collection of self-published yuri. They have a fairly straight-forward pay-whatever-you-want subscription process through a site call fantia. Here's instructions on their website: https://galetteweb.com/supporters (if you don't speak Japanese, google's auto browser translate does a pretty good job with the instructions throughout the sign-up process).

Also, Morinaga Milk is selling this series chapter by chapter on various online stores. The ebook for this latest chapter was just 165 yen. But it might be a bit of a difficult process to get them to sell it to you if you live outside Japan.

"Privyet, comrade," said Satou-san, as she sauntered into the factory and laid her tools down beside me. Her uniform was a slimmer fit than my budget for rations and her lips (and political affiliations) were redder than the leftover borscht in my fridge. Though she'd transferred in from a shabby rural town, she had the distant, beautiful air of a Tsarina, and her smile was enough to warm us all against the relentless winter. She had more curves than the all the sickles I'd grown up using, and eyes that gleamed with life throughout our designated work hours. Three hours into our first shift, I already knew that I wished to enter a domestic union with her and contribute more citizens to the Socialist Sapphic State of Lesbos.

I finally understand. Thank you.

So... what's up with that title :?

It's just a pun with Satou's name.

I spent actual hours digging through all kinds of left-related metaphors, idioms, and pseudo-science, convinced it had to be more than a stupid pun. But no. That's all. And their names don't even really contain the characters for left and right, just kanji that have them as radicals. Part of me still believes that there's some hidden, profound reason for the title that I'm just not smart enough to see.

Blastaar

First last impression—kind of a meaningless time-skip just for a half-chapter breakup angst fakeout.

I don’t know why manga and Kdrama writers are so addicted to next-to-last-chapter “we finally got together for good so now I’m leaving for some random reason and then I’ll come back after a time skip” endings—I can think of half a dozen such manga and a dozen Kdramas off the top of my head.

This is such an incredibly common ending to romance series. I wonder if it has to do with the mechanics of a serialized medium: you don't know exactly how long the story is going to go on, so it's handy to have a kind of pre-packaged, self-contained ending that still manages to essentially fulfill the dramatic requirements of ratcheting up the tension a bit before the conclusion. It's something that can be set up early on fairly easily (like having the Nika mention that her dad wanted her to come live with him) and can then be slotted in with very little build-up after that.

Nevri

Ok, fine schuyguy. I need to admit you were spot on. Still what a pointless and stupid bait and switch, just for the last cliffhanger and drama.

I had the benefit of reading and rereading each chapter a half dozen times in the process of translating them and checking them for release. I'm sure that gives an advantage in piecing things together. Weirdly, the resolution here is very literal. The continuation of the dire sounding final lines of the previous chapter goes like this: "I thought we'd be okay as long as I held onto her hand. But I was wrong... I let go of her hand, and we were still okay." Kind of funny if you think about it like that.

Overall, I really liked this series. I think it was best in the beginning, and there were a few moments I found genuinely surprising and unique. When Nika confesses to Kurumi that there's someone else she likes, I was shocked when Kurumi responded that she already knew, and that actually ended up strengthening their relationship. That really drew me into the story. Nothing after that really affected me the same way, but it still managed to be a cute and fun story even if I thought the drama didn't work as well after that.

Cool Girl on My Lap is the final story in the anthology. The author says she'll probably come back to the characters at some point in the author's note, but that's it for now, as far as I know.

Do you know if there are physical English copies being sold?

It hasn't been licensed in english, so unfortunately not.

That's a bummer, do you where the best place to go for physical copies shipped to the states?

I bought mine from Kinokuniya. They're a Japanese bookstore chain that has locations all of the world, including quite a few in the US, so they'll ship to you.
