There's a pretty good video on YouTube that does pretty well in explaining their whole schtick. It's a little clickbaity, but even in the video they admit it's only controversial in the sense that no one ever expects the dark humor or how they seem to be able to consistently pump out an absurd amount of high quality art in a short amount of time.

While doing some research on vampires for a story I'm working on it turns out Lamia's are a type of vampire in some myths. At least it keeps coming up every time I look up synonyms for vampires.

It's a reference to the 1914 novel Dubliners which is a collection of short stories about different people feeling disillusioned with modern society and think the government is hiding something important from them.
