I really love this series but honestly if you've got to make the NG comparison (which admittedly gets stronger next chapter) it's honestly closer to a Aoba x Umiko fic which is

good. AoUmi is good.

The situation looks strange to me. Protagonist works at game publishing company. But develops games. Solo, from scratch, doing all the coding and art assets and QA (or lack thereof) herself. She even has to market her game herself, by contacting websites and such.
Is this situation normal in japanese mobage dev field?

I think the implication is she was actually just running a game someone else had set up? She's been there for half a year and that game's been on for a year, so I think it was more her being the current project head. (and they knew it was bombing hence her being the only one on it)

Minami's entire character is being a big sister to others as she is to her own little brother. She's a hard worker who's good at most of what she does and is the type to keep trying if she "loses." She's very competitive and up beat and generally a nice person. And, I'd like to add, her getting paired with Hajime to begin with is absolutely silly when they've literally had no official material with each other, be it through the mobage or anime.

okay to be fair, knowing how original mobamas works, I bet they had like one card where Hajime casually references having talked to Minami but like-- yeah that really threw me off too. I guess pre-anime I dunno who you'd ship Minami with?

(a casual pixiv glance shows there's multiple HajiMina yuri doujins and a fair amount of art (even from key artists like Bocha!), so I'm guessing it's an actually supported ship from the early days of the game like RyoAi and ChinaYui that doesn't get much representation any more due to demographic change and one of them being unvoiced. learn something new about deremas every day!)

Kanade is a giant tease. Whether it's to you (the Producer) or characters she's friends with (like Mika). There was a point (in an SS event) where Asuka went on and basically accused her of being loose and she got really upset about this.

tbf this doujin is like, even pre-anime so i don't think it's toooo fair to bring up later SS characterisation? this doujin's back from when Kanade goes on rants about how mirrors project illusions and propagate a false version of yourself and boy i miss Slightly Deranged Kanade

also i mean... outside of the anime canon deremas kind of has the whole issue with heteronormativity so i think it's fair for artists to ignore some stuff that's clearly meant to be like 'hey look how this girl is docile!'.

tbh I think people who say it's confusing and don't get it just don't know the source material? it's definitely not easily accessible if you don't but yeah

Please don't use the "you have to know the source material!" crap when the characters are so ridiculously out of character that it literally doesn't matter.

totally ic syuko and kanade and minami being an unsympathetic ineffective wreck is pretty canon-accurate

tbf the author was intending to hurt people's feelings so honestly this is a resounding success for her etc

also i think the work doesn't really have to have an opinion on it...? like the story and the setting aren't set up to moralise; it's like looking to good old Shuninta's Feelings for a moral core and not just 'haha wow people are fucked'

(i do think the art is definitely a little weird and muddy but the plot not being clear might be the fault of my translation to some extent.)

inugami's publication history is an incomprehensible mess that means it's shown up in both print YH and the niconico edition over time, which miiiight be part of the numbering conclusion; I was scared of catching up because of how difficult it'd be to get all the raws but good to see I no longer have to worry about that!

--anyway, while it ending is sad, it DOES mean I have something to aim towards. And who knows, maybe it'll get a second burst of life online like Kase-san, or in something like Galette!

oh lmao i forgot to put in a TL note about that one -- her original bubble there is a reference to a song by Pink Lady that uses the SOS thing, but no-one would get that, so it became an ABBA joke

Yeah, Ugetsu tends to write a kind of insecure and fragile sachiko-- which suits the character perfectly, imho, but it can be a bit of a change to the usual.

--also for people who aren't as au fait with imas, Mizuki has a good-- 8? years on Kanade in canon and Kanade has a big 'look at me im so cool and seductive' shtick that works on girls around her same age quite a lot, so it's kind of funny to see it just not working on someone with a heck of a lot more life experience

More than that, Nico in the anime is so different from Nico in the manga they might as well be two different characters. Well, everyone is different but it's pretty dramatic in Nico's case; her whole role in the story is different. Rin and Hanayo, on the other hand, remain pretty stable, and the big difference with Maki is her relationship with her parents.

Reread last two chapters and I still don't understand why Chiharu left. I know she said she would, but why did they tacitly decline to discuss why?

She was only down to see her dad for the New Year's break, and school was starting up for her again, so she just pretty much had to leave. Shou wasn't emotionally intelligent enough to question it, and Chiharu was too scared to properly discuss it.
