I have to admit, I am hardcore shipping Kaguhara and Mikamo. I really hope they're the end game.

I kinda hope that being around Kaguhara, Shitori has her own fetishes with Akishita unlocked.

The end of chapter 8 implies it's not going to be Mikamo with that flashforward about her staring into the abyss that is Kaguhara, especially since Mikamo mentions that they're not batting for the same team.

But also good luck in your ship.

The shot of her happy within the nightmare vision she had watching Kaguhara draw implies there's potential regardless of what she says about herself for the time being.

This manga is hysterical. I never would have expected a concept like this to end up going with a genius plot, this really is ecchi comedy Death Note, lmao. The only bad part of this manga is that it's inspired some truly terrible posts in here, good lord

Edit: I guess I don't blame y'all, you've clearly been influenced by our main character's complete lack of inhibition. Hopefully it's a temporary effect and you're not going around other places oversharing about your fetishes and bathroom habits. Kaguhara is not a good role model lol.

Thinking about the characters realistically, it would be very difficult to make their sexualities clear when the people in question are likely not clear themselves about their sexualities. As external viewers we can tell these girls gay as hell, but they're insecure teenagers. Gay teens rarely actually get romance irl, they might get an awkward sexual experience that is hopefully not traumatizing and then only revisit the topic in college. Heteronormative society is a hell of an obstacle, especially for a child with no control over her own life in most ways.

I find it fascinating how this manga just gets real gross with it sometimes, like when the princess ate a bunch of ants and now bloody eyeball slurping.

Yeah it's amazing. Balances real well.

I totally agree, these scenes blend with the light fantasy art style and setting that would make you expect a lighter and less visceral story to create quite the unique vibe. The Princess of Slyph feels like basically no other manga. The butterflies obsessed with blood from this chapter are perhaps the perfect representation of the manga as a whole.

Worth noting that the Author has said she does not consider this a yuri. While that does not necessarily mean that the leads are not gay, it does imply that their gayness is not the main point of the story. If you're waiting for some sort of yuri "money-shot" you are likely to be dissapointed

That's not necessarily what the rejection of the yuri label implies. There's a few different authors of lesbian stories who reject it for constraining what kinds of stories you can tell via genre tropes and audience expectations. Yuri is not all lesbian manga, it's a specific genre about F/F romance with expectations that people might not want attached to their story. There's a lot of josei manga about queer women like Ohana Holoholo that you probably couldn't get away with publishing in Yuri Hime without causing a riot lol.
I can imagine one particular expectation with "yuri" this author might have wanted to avoid is the one about how the story should be a romance that's constantly developing towards a climax of the girls confessing their love and becoming a standard romantic couple. There's been plenty of complaints in this thread about the "pacing" because they want development of the romance instead of development of their friendship. So if an author wants to tell a story about two girls developing an intimate emotional connection and friendship with the possibility of eventual romance, saying the story is "yuri" risks getting frustrated readers who care about the latter development over the former development.

The moral of this manga seems to be "striving for academic achievement will drive you insane, it's better to be a gay slacker". An important message for today's youth to hear imo

Aya's doing the equivalent of if an American teen got up on front of her peers and sang an anime theme with bad awkward Japanese. If the takeaway from this chapter is just "Oh she loves music" I am also going to be mad lmao

I agree with that one poster, Makino should marry this guy.

And then make herself a widow :)

Are there any good grunge/alt rock duets, anyway? I can't think of any.

Reread the most recent chapter with an eye towards redrawing and noticed for the first time that all the dialog bubbles are semi-transparent, with the background art visible through them. Cleaning these chapters must be a whole lot of work, wow.

It's hard to say what Koga's thinking, we've gone a surprisingly long amount of time without really hearing what's on her mind. We're instead in Aya's shoes, sharing in her anxious contemplations of her opaque oshi.

It's very strange to read five chapters of a manga and feel like I'm still looking for the end of the intro. The title is bombastic and yet our protagonist is thus far entirely too reasonable and mild to live up to it, even explicitly thinking "I have no right to tell her what to do". It's hard to even predict where the plot would be going because so far it feels like it's done before it started: she's straight my guy, it's time to give up on her, graduate high school, go to college, and come out of the closet there like a normal lesbian. What other path could there be for our hero at this point? Maybe all this stuff is like an introduction establishing her hangups before we jump forward in time to her meeting a girl who actually presents a real possibility of romance with her.

I must have missed the scene where dicks were involved. To me it just looked like two people who love each other flirting and kissing.

One yuri guide from the olden time described the different types of yuri fans and mentioned that a large segment of the fandom doesn't want yurigirls to ever come closer than 10 m. to a penis—or an individual equipped with one.

I assume it's even less desirable if the individuals in question are sexually aroused.

Dynasty very specifically defines Yuri in a manner that defies those people, whomstever they may be. Dicks can be so close as to be attached to the "yurigirls" themselves and it still counts round these parts. Rather than coming to the comments and crying "waiter, there's a dick in my soup!" (seriously, how are they still reading this comic specifically to see that kiss a billion chapters in after all the yaoi??), they should browse for the comics that are specifically labeled as being suitable for their concerns with the "404: Men Not Found" tag and blacklist tags like "yaoi".

If someone has a problem with that exceptionally infrequent occurrence, I'm sorry but they're either a homophobe or a misandrist. Either way, they can quite frankly just leave.

OR they could stay and explain to you why your name-calling is wrong, in the hope that one day you'll get it.

Identifying such a visceral reaction of disgust and disdain to the completely benign appearance of a gay couple as either homophobia or misandry is not "name-calling," no matter how much you would like it to be true. I'm well aware that there is a small but vocal subsection of this community who actually hate men, regardless of what they're doing or who they are. They pop up whenever a Het story is released or a man appears in a yuri story. I'm tired of it. They can take their personal problems elsewhere.

Hell, I also hate men, Ed and Ian just get a pass for being cute gay 2d guys. If only all men were cute and gay and 2d, the world would be a much better place

I don't understand how anyone who would be bothered by Ed and Ian kissing would still be reading this manga to complain about it, considering all the other yaoi content this comic has. There's over half a dozen wonderful fujoshi in the cast drawing men fucking and then holding those drawings up to the camera and making you look at them lmao. How have you not been scared off YEARS before this chapter?

Surprisingly no one has brought up this author's previous series, Koi to Uso/ Love and Lies, which managed to have an anime but got mixed reception. That series is het, but does have a gay character.
The premise reminds me of this oneshot called Trans Star which is one of the better genderbender works I've read, though I doubt the change is permanent in this case, since it's still published in a traditional shounen magazine and all.

Considering this seems to be the successor to Welcome Back Alice's publication slot I wouldn't rule out literally ANYTHING.

I have no idea why people think Elisha and Honoka are platonic or even not together "yet", you should click their ship tag and go back through some of the things they've gotten up to lol.

I don't know why you'd ever consider B and C to be on the table without being given a very good reason. Gay stories have lots of gay people in them, there's no reason to assume all the gay ass behavior we've seen hasn't been the truths for those gay ass characters.

Seems like a weirdly short chapter? 24?

The first chapter of every volume except the first has been much shorter, presumably to accommodate the time and effort that preparing the finished volume takes. For weekly series you'll frequently see them take a break instead, for monthly series I'm used to seeing them just eating the extra work with overtime so the implication here seems to be this author has better working conditions than the norm maybe? I hope so at least.

You can tell when Aya said "I'm in no place to talk about love" that really grabbed Koga's attention. Good music might be distracting her for the moment but you just know she's gonna be mulling over the implications of that line all night. And she'll probably incorrectly come to a conclusion that she should feel guilty or something about it lol.

the fact so many of you are excusing fucking incest is insane to me, like what?? the story would've been fine WITHOUT the incest, you can still have crazy x crazy if both were obsessive to each other why include incest

It is hysterically funny to me to reply to a comic where a 13/14 year old girl threatens murder/suicide and then promises an older girl sexual favors to be like "this story would've been fine WITHOUT the incest". These lines sure do feel arbitrary lmao

And if you truly believe that... should I even point out that "there's a chance you'll look at me like that too" is literally what the other character answered in response ? Frankly, what the fuck did you want Minami to answer to Nanase's comment that would have made you happy ?

This is easy. Instead of responding to "you like girls" with "huh, I've never really thought about it, but really I'm a yuzusexual" she could say something else, preferably something that fits her character and doesn't make her seem like a cardboard cutout of a yuri trope. For example, she could say "While that's true, since you know that I'm in love I hope you can respect that". Or "Sure, I like girls, but that doesn't mean I like every girl, sorry kohai". She could even bypass the question of sexuality entirely and simply shoot down the kohai, it doesn't really matter why she thinks she has a chance, she doesn't. She could just not say the really stupid line that makes her seem brainless.

Everyone's always jumping to "axed" when they don't like an ending, even though this ending was basically locked in four chapters prior.

Well, there you go straight from the authors mouth: axed. I suspected as much, because it would take way more than four chapters to address everything they had been building up.

I wouldn't say that. The phrasing sounds like it might be talking about the new Kathy and Eliza story. For the main story, the publisher might have said "stop at the next volume end" but they definitely didn't cancel it early, as "axed" implies. It's like the difference between getting evicted and your landlord not renewing your lease. Both might be bad if you wanted to continue, but the latter is much less abrupt and threatening for your future. It's rare to see an "evicted" mangaka make a comeback sadly. Finished manga mangaka though frequently start a new series. I hope we see more from this author, I like their style. :)
