Oh, she must be secretly another member of the club, then... And here I was, worried for a moment. :-)

You don't remember her lesson? :)

She's an OG in the club.

Ah, I've lost track of Kirishima's... liaisons about 30 chapters ago. :D Nakano is the only one I still recognize, if only because she popped up the most so far

if you go to the series page and go through the chapter names, you can more or less track whom she's been with thus far.

That helps, but I'm just not invested enough in this series to backtrack through the archives. -__-

So, is she gonna sleep with her childhood friend for free? Wouldn't that kind of break this manga?

Childhood friend forks out the money in next chapter. I don't get Thai, but who needs the dialogues? xD

She should have been decapitated in chapter 1 and tampering with that broke something in the death mechanism.

I really hope the story doesn't go the Final Destination type of "fate is real and actively conspires to kill people" plot device. That just undermines the entire point of stories about predictive superpowers, since what's the point of watching a character struggle to make the world better if there's some kind of omniscient entity ensuring that their successes are just drawn out failures in disguise?

That and I have a distinct distaste for the concepts of fate and destiny. The idea that certain people are just meant to be in certain positions is an excuse for entirely too much apathy in society.

I think you are wrong in anthropomorphizing fate, such as ascribing intention and sentience to it. In my view, what people in the past have called "fate" is actually an emergent self-organizing behavior of the world-system that limits feasible future states to a smaller subset of all possible future sates of said system. It doesn't take a Satsuki to "foresee" when and where the corpse of someone plummeting from 10 stories high will be found. In this sense, her precognition is just a quantitative increase of sensitivity toward a particular kind of future states. Furthermore, each of her rescues had run the risk of inducing a massive regime change in (her local bubble of) the world-system, and Komachi's just happened to be the one that did. Hence, there is nothing sentient or intentional about the "fate" that Satsuki is fighting, merely an irregular (and, hopefully, localized) state of the world-system that may or may not have been reached had Satsuki not been able to save Komachi.

Basketball-kun was a goddamn hero for giving us these interactions

inb4 the reveal that that high-schooler was actually on Pei Yu's payroll.

Pei-roll? ...I'll see myself out.

What the hell is this school??
If not for Satsuki there would have been more 10 deaths in this school year.
If a school like that exists, the public would have explode.

I think the implication of the first couple of chapters was that by saving Komachi early on, Satsuki has unwittingly set off some kind of chain reaction that resulted to an ever-growing number of (near-)deaths around them. Whether Komachi is literally the Antichrist, can see premonitory bodies, or was just abused as a child to the point of losing all touch with herself and with reality, doesn't really matter. She should have been decapitated in chapter 1 and tampering with that broke something in the death mechanism. If not for her survival, even President Blockhead's murders would not have made the school stand out statistically.

Tsukushi's mind is stuck in a pretty bad loop

That's actually a great description of the main crux of this manga. Tsukushi's brain is caught in a recursive self-reinforcing anxiety about fictitious scenarios of getting rejected. This ultimately pointless exercise consumes so much of her brain energy, the brain subsystems responsible for observing and interpreting the social situation around her are starved into atrophying, leading to an almost complete disconnect from reality -- particularly from that of how down bad Hinoka is for her...

Others of us have been reading about this couple for over a decade and therefore are willing to hang around to see if the ship rights itself.

Man, I just checked and the first chapter was uploaded in 2012. I remember reading it here long before I had created an account...

Maid seemed to have green eyes when she said "I'll let no harm", blue eyes after that.

Omg, I didn't even notice until you said that.

Definitely something up with that maid.

The last time someone's eyes changed colors like that (Dahlia, I think), it turned out she was a demon. Maybe the maid is actually some kind of angel guardian of the family?

Anyhoo, I think there is no deeper connection between Yvonne and her mother other than the latter was physically frail and when she used too much magic, she was possessed by mares, which eventually killed her. As much as I dislike the father's interference, he is certainly justified and, unfortunately, well within his moral rights to keep Yvonne confined, especially after the stunt with the magic sword. The idea that the Villainess System is a particularly nasty mare is quite appealing, but we will have to see more confirmation before taking it too seriously.

Diana is not a yandere, just a shonen protagonist who's getting deprotagonized and doesn't know how to deal with it.

that's such a sick idea, i love genre play like this.

although, wasn't she an otomege protagonist, not a shounen one?

Yea, she probably is, it's just that as people have pointed out, the whole premise of the original game was more action-y than they usual otoge setup, so I kinda see Diana as an action heroine first. :-)

What some folks seem to forget about Diana is that she is a video game protagonist, and those tend to resort to force whenever their goals are threatened. Diana seems to have a crush on Natori, but it's completely unrequited, but she neither realizes it, nor seems to be able to process it in any way other than getting violently protective of her whenever anyone outside her trust circle (which Lapis has already infiltrated, so she doesn't trigger it) gets too close. Diana is not a yandere, just a shonen protagonist who's getting deprotagonized and doesn't know how to deal with it.

Shen's tsun-tsun makes so much sense when she grew up with a narcissist that she's somehow still attracted to. And to be fair to her, Jiang is a lovable narcissist. She's still very human and their interactions are pretty cute.

I don't think that she's a narcissist, so much as she doesn't understand the emotional component of ... just about anything related to other people.

I get the impression she might be on the spectrum.

Or just severely alexithymic (not that any of those are mutually exclusive).

Even though things went swimmingly this chapter... And can't fucking get ride of this sense of anxiety and dread.
I need fluff.

I feel the same way, and I think a big part of the dread we feel is all the fluff from the early chapters. By frontloading the happiness the main girls have had, the author has raised the stakes incredibly high for their success. I do not think we the readers would feel the same amount of existential anxiety as the main characters, had we not seen how happy they were at the start. This manga is not about fluff, but about perseverance and making tough choices for the sake of the one you love -- however, it wouldn't work narratively without the fluff at the start. This is very good storytelling.

Can we please stop discussing Fate here? This thread is a Looking Up to Magical Girls discussion, where I'd like to discuss Looking Up to Magical Girls.

I have been eagerly anticipating Vena eating shit for like three arcs now, I'm so ready.

We've all been scarred by Kyubey haven't we?

Nah, he's just clearly been a conniving little shit since... actually, I think I've been waiting for him to get his since the start, actually.

Which basically proves their point, doesn't it? :D I think ever since Madoka, the reasonable suspicion about the motives of any non-human entity granting superhuman powers to children before putting them in life-threatening situations has become a genre staple, especially in subversive works like this one.
