My first thought when I read they were 21 and 24 was "that's good for them they're about the same age". But Kon was shocked because in her mind they're not "around the same age".

I choose the word "depressed" over "angsty" to fit the mood of the story, not to clinically diagnose the characters lol. Angst is a relatively high drama term but this is a relatively lower drama introspective story. Maybe "Sad girls play gay chicken" would be best idk lol. I don't really want to get into spoilers and big analyses of stuff not in the manga yet

Does "acting on her selfish desires" have to be to literally lock Aya inside the house? Saying that she is lonely and begging Aya not to interact with anyone else is emotional manipulation.

Of course, it doesn't have to be literally locking Aya inside, but I don't think what she said here is a tactic of emotional manipulation either. As you can see, Koto does have these selfish thoughts, and she is aware of how bad they are; that's why she tried to keep them to herself. However, when Aya kept asking what was wrong, Koto became so emotional that she couldn't hold it in anymore and let everything slip out. I see it as letting your emotions get the better of yourself, and because of that, you said what you weren't supposed to say. Of course it's a different story if Koto keep pulling this shit, but for now, I think saying that she abused Aya just from what she said when losing her composure is a bit unfair to her.

Take this explanation and replace the acts of emotional abuse with physical abuse. Maybe that will show you how this attempt at excusing her behavior does not pass the smell test.

Typical way how an abuser might gaslight you into believing "it's not that bad".

They're both made for each other but I feel like Adachi benefits the most simply because I don't know how anyone else but Shima would have handled her. On the other hand, I could imagine Shima living her life with her other friend just fine (though not as happily as she'd be with Adachi!).

Yeah this is one of the aspects that AdaShima shares with Shuukura. I've thought for awhile now "thank god Adachi/Miyagi found Shimamura/Sendai because there isn't anyone else out there that'd put up with their shit!".

This manga is always at its peak when it shows both perspectives, that way you get to see both Adachi's dumb gay panics and Shimamura's introspectiveness.

Yeah I love getting Shimamura's perspective, partially because it's very different from the Shimamura in my mind that's in a constant battle against falling asleep. I've developed a headcanon of her as having some sort of undiagnosed narcolepsy but she's actually a nuanced character that puts a lot of thought into her relationship with Adachi.

Feels like with every new chapter people are just rushing to paint one of the girls as the villain when this simply isn't that kind of story.

From what I can tell, there's 1 person in the Mangadex comments and 2 people in the Dynasty discussion that had their firstborn murdered by Erika. Only explanation for that over the top hatred of Erika.
Not that I love her or anything. She's handling things better than Koto so far but that's not a high bar to clear. Ultimately all 3 of the girls are suffering and I'm not feeling great about any ships.

There'll be some hiccups in the first few dozen chapters but they don't abuse or bring out the worst in each other. Even Miyagi can be sweet at times despite being a tsun...tsuntsuntsuntsuntsundere. It's all consensual stuff that both know Sendai can easily walk away from if she doesn't want to go along with it.

I have a different opinion.

Miyagi can be abusive, like when she takes out her frustration on Sendai by dumping her drink and food on Sendai. She feels guilty about it and avoids Sendai afterwards, but that's the best example of the toxic undercurrent in their relationship. That's their lowest point and when Sendai comes back she demands serious changes in their relationship, but it's quite touch and go.

I would agree that their relationship is more positive than not, but there's serious caveats. It's mostly consensual but the boundaries are questionable. Sendai has the option to leave completely at any time, and Miyagi can simply not invite Sendai back, but being the angsty teenagers they are, it's a long and bumpy road for them to establish their boundaries beyond a toxic binary of "accept everything or throw away everything."

I do agree Miyagi can be sweet and actually becomes quite considerate. And as cursed as their relationship is, Sendai's relationship to family and friends is so distant that her relationship with Miyagi is genuinely healthier and more communicative than the false fronts she puts up elsewhere.

The soda incident specifically is indeed a low point and pissed me off quite a bit. Miyagi does regret it though and they do have a conversation about how that wasn't cool from what I recall. Definitely the most major "hiccup", but conflict doesn't equal "toxicity".

I read both. I'd been reading the MTL translations before the Amawashi translations started. Glad they've picked it back up again.
