As for if it exists, well, it does. It's recognized in the DSM 5 and pretty clearly laid out, unless there's evidence to contradict it or undermine the particulars, I don't really see a reason to question the reports and diagnoses of it. Unless we're talking about the shakiness of psychology in general, but that's a separate issue.

match is taking some creative liberties with the whole everyone deciding things in a council (visual metaphor) and one hunting the others down (convenient for plot. This is how fiction works), but the basics of DID are all there and pretty accurate as far as the DSM description and how alters work are concerned.

Damn Blastaar, I love yuri more than your average yuri fan, but it is rarely, if ever, an example of great manga. Which may be by virtue of the fact that there are only a handful of full time professional artists in the scene. Even still, almost to a one they lack basic understandings of pacing, symbolism, panel manipulation (and just about literally everything Scott McCloud talks about), and general reader experience. They also bring some powerful emotions basically unique to the form, though. That's what has me hooked. But there's nothing going on under the surface in this pop romance/genre fiction (in yuri, that is). Motif play is the farthest it gets, if you want to consider the cliche iceberg of storytelling, and for instance the different meanings of cutting vegetables based on the scene are just baked into Japanese as a high context language.

You're a comic scholar of some shade, right? If this series is one of the best you've seen, I think you should seek some exemplars in the form! Not the old boring stuff though. Just some works that are more aware of how to use panels to manipulate readers, symbols to build larger stories, and ones that are just generally higher quality.

I want to preface that by saying I'm a huge yuri fan and have both an advanced degree in literature and an 800 level comics course under my belt (reader response and reception were my focuses), so I'm not just talking out of my ass. I even got to have lunch with Scott. He doesn't know anything about yuri, but he has read the Rose of Versailles. His knowledge of manga is... Quite dated...

In light of recent tagging conventions, would it make sense to add those two tags? What does it mean when a work is tagged with pairings but not with the yuri tag? Particularly with subtext essentially removed from the tag toolkit.
(Seems it's more of a thematic thing without the yuri tag. This one could go either way for MeiSaku then.)

Incorrect my good man. "You and Me" is the object in this title. The subject was left off, but the object is always "me" over "I." (the full sentence would be something like "This is a Secret Just Between You and Me.") (the Just placement could be up for debate though.)

It was still odd to have yuri in the magazine since it wasn't being highly fetishized, though (the way lesbian scenes are when they show up in the rest of ExE). It's a little hard to compare since the ExE stories aren't marked on Dynasty, but while this work is super fluffy and stereotypical, alongside it there's the works by match (super bizarre even in a yuri section) and the different works Bunny Love released. They probably fit the marxist definition for fetizished commodities though >_>

My guess is that because yuri and girls love readers across the board are split fairly evenly between lesbian women and straight men, ExE figured they could play to their audience of straight men. I mean, that's what would've made it viable at least. It really could've just been a ploy to get more yuri out into the world by some random employee or two at the publisher. Or it was just an experiment to test if people were interested.

That's also why there wouldn't be so much crossover in a shoujo or other romance magazine, neither of the two big yuri demographics are present. The only exception being MOTHER FUCKIN' COMIC RAKUEN, best romance magazine around! "Bring us your romance, your angst and your drama, het or yuri," they say!

Still no official word on a continuation to this series, but things look good! We should know next month. Well, that is if they release chapter 6, it should happen next month.

I can double check with the translator, but I'm almost positive that the tiny rebellion wasn't tripping and that it resulted in a whole ton of domestic violence, hence now living with her grandparents.

All yuri reeks of cliche, that's how genre fiction works. If you don't embrace, you're in for a sad time in this land.

Is the original kobayashi maid manga still ongoing? I know it says it and all but It's been a while.

That aside, what the hell happened in this story? Hatate stopped using spirit photography and became a super recluse? But felt like she was still getting out a fair bit, except everyone seemed to be a little concerned about her absence? But also she somehow kept releasing newspapers? Or is she releasing two newspapers for these two competitions after hiding for a century?

Hoo boy, it's been well over a decade since I've played Speed.

Translation question: on p. 122, Ooba says to Kagami, "It's the first time I see you like this."

Technically speaking, it's the use of simple present tense ("see") for present perfect tense ("have seen").

I've seen this error many, many times in a number of translated manga (one that first comes to mind is A Kiss and a White Lily, but there are lots of others).

What's puzzling about it is that it shows up in translations that otherwise use even more complicated English verb tenses correctly, including conditional tenses ("would have been," etc.) and present continuous tense ("I am seeing"), among others.

Is there something about Japanese grammar that makes "I have seen" (or "I have never seen") a particularly tough one?

It's an English as a second language thing. It's a pretty common grammar construction in non native English usage. It's not a Japanese thing. I feel like I have and I'm seeing don't really make sense in this situation despite being what we use, they're a weird quirk of native English usage. The normal use of I have seen would be to describe to someone something you have seen before, not make a comment in the present about something happening right in front of you (in context, it's an act of commentary, which is a pretty complex move in speech, if common). Similarly, we use I'm seeing here, but I think that might just be straight up an incorrect usage becoming mainstream.

Never played that Werewolf/Mafia game, but I'm sure it could be fun a few times and the author made the characters stay in character so that's always a huge plus.

The game is pretty fun, but it's for casual board gamers, at the same level as exploding kittens, Catan, and in the area of cards against humanity, though not quite that casual.
