I see no reason to assume that this is Tsubaki "going yandere". She really is glad that Hiiragi is doing better, she just feels left out. Let the girl be sad.

The more sensible (or rather, obvious) prediction is that overcoming this dependence on Hiiragi is part of Tsubaki's character arc.

For raw version, it ends with chapter 43 + 44(extra). Seems like the author drop it since 2019 :'(

Too bad, but at least we got Who Decided That Blues Had To Be Cool!? in the meantime

Not satisfying, at the end, it still never truly reckoned with the gross internalized sexism of these girls, and if anything it vindicated it.

Yeah, maybe it would have been nice if they had done that; if you mean e.g. that Kurokawa was never "ugly" just because she didn't put as much effort into her appearance as Fujishiro.

The fact that this time Fujishiro called Kurokawa beautiful without any caveats like before ("you're cuter now that I helped you and you don't look like a nerd anymore"), and called her her princess, is not quite the same as explicitly addressing the themes regarding beauty or sexism, but it at least shows that Fujishiro sees Kurokawa in a completely different light than she did at the start.

Yeah I'm not getting any of the "you're cuter now that I helped you and you don't look like a nerd anymore" aspect from this chapter at all. Fujishiro originally didn't know Kurokawa's trauma and thought helping her with her physical appearance was what she needed, but in this chapter Fujishiro realized Kurokawa just needed to be loved for who she is. It's not like Kurokawa is covered in makeup or anything in chapter, she simply looks like herself.

I'm also not really seeing the sexism here as beauty isn't gender exclusive, and people regardless of gender often flaunt their physical form to make others feel bad. I can tell you right now that one can write a nearly parallel and identical narrative as this with a Yaoi story. Hetero as well.

With "you're cuter now that I helped you..." I was referring to the times Fujishiro called Kurokawa cute before this chapter. Example. I was specifically making the point that this time Fujishiro didn't use or imply any caveats. And that this is a good thing! That the "you're beautiful..." part wasn't just reassurance in the moment, but the final stretch of Fujishiro's character arc.

Although I don't think these girls have more internalized sexism than the average Japanese girl, beauty and cuteness just happen to be important themes.

The last couple of chapters were not executed very well, and the lack of any levity didn't help. But I think this chapter was very sweet and genuine! As someone reading since 2018, this last-minute recovery is a big relief.

I like it because it helps me imagine the scenario as who's the guy in the relationship.

But they're both women, so neither is guy in relationship. I know you mean who has what role, but I find that insulting at best, even in het. There's no like universal split of roles in relationship. It's unique to each individual one.

Wouldn't it be healthier to view it as their attempt to integrate the concepts with their lived experience — which is unique to each individual? I don't think they made a claim to a universal split of roles, just extrapolated from their own experience.

"So which one of you is the guy" is a textbook example of rude questions straight people ask from a gay couple. It's so basic that it might even be cited on something like a corporate sensitivity training.

Also I'd say "guy(s)" and "dude(s)" have long since transcended gender-locks in common parlance.

The arguable gender-neutrality of "guys" and "dude" has no relevance here; definitive cases like "the guy" or "the dude" are used for men exclusively.

Was the idea that these two couldn't define their relationship, or declined to do so, ever brought up before the extra chapter? The narration in the extra chapter feels kind weird, not because I believe that there has to be a clear line between platonic and romantic relationships, but because it sounds like the narrator doesn't know that LGBT people exist
