I don't know what exactly will happen if blood is microwaved, but I think it might be related to food sanitation issue. Well, I don't think that would be a big problem since she buys blood by online shopping. There might exist some kind of supply infrastructure that conveys freshly donated human bloods to end consumers like Sophie. Or she could drink blood extracted from animals other than human, like cow. I dunno. :)

I don't know how it works in Japan, but in the US blood collection and transfusion is a pretty huge deal from a legal and medical standpoint. You can't just hop on Amazon and order blood, even animals'.

Then again, the universe in the story has had vampires living cordially amongst humans for large portions of history, so maybe trade in blood is a little more lax over there. I kind of like to imagine Sophie and other vampires having some kind of federally-recognized blood consumption license.

Yea. It was cheesy af and in normal life, it would probably end relationship, but this is manga with manga logic so of course it works out xD. It was a little creepy. If she were trying to enamor Nozomi with cuteness, Maya could have greeted her in some way or at least struck a pose as Nozomoi answered the door. Instead she was just standing there.. staring.

Though I sort of like it that way, since it was obviously a harebrained scheme (pun not intended, but I regret nothing) hastily concocted and executed by Maya. Being stiff and awkward in such a situation is believable and fits the rest of her characterization fairly well.

Also, it plays well into the theme of both characters being afraid of scaring away their love interest by being creepy. It was a bit of positive foreshadowing that Nozomi caught on so quickly and wasn't weirded out by it.

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but what is up with this "My heart is beating fast, therefore I am in love with this person" trope? There are far more explanations for heightened pulse than just love, and often the character saying this doesn't even know anything about the person they're supposed to be love with except how they look. It seems like an immature and overdramatic mindset.

Yeah, that kind of skeeviness reminds of the "welp, you got a boner so we have to have sex, since that's the only way to get rid of it" trope that crops up oh so often in sexual fiction.

But that's what it is, a cheap and easy literary device. It can be hard to compose a narrative with compelling, believable reasons to fall in love/have sex, and sometimes readers don't mind and are okay with an expedient love/sex story.

I'd love to see an animated series of it, but I feel like there are very few studios that would be able to do Hakumei and Mikochi justice.

Hakumei to Michiko honestly sounds like it would be straight up Studio Ghibli's alley.

I am 100% confident that a Hakumei and Mikochi feature produced by Studio Ghibli would end world hunger, poverty, war, and that thing where you walk into a room then immediately forget what you went in there for.
