The failure of characters to talk back to authority figures when warranted might be one of the biggest cultural gaps between Western readers and manga (also true of other Asian media, like Kdramas).

Frankly, the only difference is see there is that in Japanese mange I see why it is that way (real-life cultural backgrounds) while in Western media it always leaves me with "what the hell author?!"

But the numbers of lesbian novels I've read where the characters tell their abusive parents to piss off is minuscule. Heck, I've read more about incestuous rape that are about forgiveness than any other route they could go down. And with any other "minor" abuses compared to that it's basically always expected to be forgiven or at least to be tolerated.

(latest example I came across was the heroine's father emotionally abusing the heroine for her entire childhood and teenage years, joining an evil organization and supporting whatever evil things they did, then murdering his own daughter and her lover. But they both got revived so it ends with a sort of 'yeah, we'll get over that, he's seen that he was wrong' message ^^)

On a scale from blergh to yay I found that latest chapter decisively meh.

Some people can't tell fantasy from reality. :/

We're talking about the dark days when lesbians where always the antagonists, did a bunch of evil things, and in the end were killed. Nowadays we're luckily in more enlightened ages, and they occasionally get to be the good gals, although they'll of course still die in the end.

Personally I think it'd be an interesting arc to see Kamu grow away a bit from Eiko and finding her own waifu, but, eh, I won't complain whatever way this goes. It'd be nice if we got an actual resolution though - which is rare enough in this type of story.

It doesn't help that Japanese architecture still seems to equate 'wall' with 'a paper-thin surface that separates space'. If someone were banging on my neighbors door ... I might hear it if I was absolutely quiet, but probably not otherwise. In Japan, the entire neighborhood inevitably hears the argument ;)

Is that cellphone argument even really an argument? Apparently in the West most write about 70 characters per minute per hand. So frankly if you have paper ready the speed difference for such short stuff like what you'd want to order etc. compared to typing in your smartphone is probably negligible; in Japanese that's a few kanji or whatever and you are done. Plus, text size is obviously much larger the way she goes about it ...

School might also have a ban against smartphones (unless they were in a scene somewhere, I didn't check). Either way I wouldn't be surprised if some genuinely preferred this method.

I'd say the way this is set up it's almost certainly going to be right now we're doing a 'getting together because of sexual abuse in the past is wrong' arc, as demonstrated by even incredibly thirsty Asuka being taken aback because of how Ayako suddenly is acting. It then stands to reason that there'll be another arc which will be more about 'how to get over the past and make wincest work'.

So far, despite the incest themes, there's been no real hurdles for the main couple to overcome. Presumably this arc was introduced to give them one, and to make them grow as characters.
