No, they are a lot alike in many ways. They even look alike, with the dark circles under their eyes. They are both socially awkward, shut-ins, otaku, desperate and self entitled.

Ah ok you're right there are similarities but this one difference make them seem dissimilar, to me at least. Dude coerced a girl into having sex with him. The girl who was the crush of the guy who bullied him. He's also fairly confident when talking to people, very much unlike kuroki.

I get the feeling that if an unconventional pairing like this one or say MakiUmi was confirmed, the fandom will be thrown into chaos.

I could imagine Love Live becoming the centre of ruthless pairing wars between opposition fandoms...There are good arguments for either one out of KotoUmi, HonoUmi and HonoKoto. In fact there is no pairing that doesn't have a solid argument against it.

I think Honoka x Eri is a legit pairing, judging from reading the contents in the manga. I prefer Eri x Nozomi over this pairing which is why this one-shot was so good. I also liked Nico's role in this.

Honoka x Eri is a legit pairing,(in fact i believe it was pretty popular in the early days).

One of the reasoning's for this is that in the anime Honoka's relationship with Eri is one of which that has progressed the most throughout the 2 seasons. They started out as adversaries, then become friends, then predecessor/successor.

On a side note, if its any comfort for those of you, it's usually Honoka that gets this treatment from the fandom seeing that she is the least popular character among µ's.
