I think the 3 movies are equally good, though my favorite remains the third one, for the epic battles and the scene where Sam carries Frodon on the Orodruin. They deserve their 17 (if i'm right) oscars.

On a side note, it still amazes me how deep Tolkien's universe is, and I recommend the Silmarillon and pretty much all of his other work to anyone who enjoys reading. (Galich ?)

So apart from Alien the first ones that come to mind are:

Oldboy (2003), Memento, Memories of Murder, Requiem for a Dream, Drive, Kill Bill, Taxi Driver, Zodiac and Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf. Oh, and Blade Runner, of course!

When I used to play video games, ny names were always Humuun (read uhmoon) and Uriah. Utoptia sounded quite like Uriah and I wanted to change so here I am.

Though I also use plenty of others name when it comes to name your character in MMORPG. (I remember using Vardiaz, Sitaetrex and NoobStomper).

Nowadays, the name I use the most is John K Peta. Regardless how fucked up his works and himself are, it sounds ... great ? [and I wish a random innocent user would google it, lmao, that'd be epic].

Well, here in Europe too. For example, on a french site for movie/serie I sometimes visit ... Bebop is ranked #1 best anime of all time. And when it's not Bebop, it's EVA.

Dude, Octave is up there among my favorites, so I totally agree with you there. I'd think it could work if the Japanese market weren't a bunch of lightweights when it comes to really deep topics and plotlines. It's the same reason why Bebop (one of my favorite animes, along with Champloo) was poorly received in Japan yet sold great here. I still need to see Sakamichi. I plan on renting it once I finish another series I'm currently on.

I agree, japanese seem not to enjoy "deep" plotline. You mentionned CB were canceled, Evangelion's diffusion also got changed. (tho I didn't like EVA, I can't deny how deep and well done it is and the fact it was something totally new in the japanimation back then, and that it is now a classic / must-see).

Death note is a really good anime and manga overall, at least for me.
I think I'm one of the few who prefer Samurai champloo over cowboy bebop. Both are masterpiece, but I guess I prefer the Japan / edo era / hip-hop vibe / road movie over the space opera / western / jazz-vibe. Again, both are hella good.

Kodama Naoko's stories are NOT deep. They're all (Renai manga and some oneshot aside) about fucked up characters fucking up the few non fucked-up characters. Wow, so deep. But I believe it's enjoyable and "to each their own" I guess.
And ... Akiko's stories are everything but "identitcal garbage".

Have you read Nostalgia, Off time, Hanjuku joshi, the condition for paradise, [insert one of her work] ... Those are deep.
Deep doesn't mean tragic, sad, heartbreaking, aangst, drama. Deep is for something with hidden meaning(s), for something that can be interpreted in various way, for something that make you think, for a story that's well written. (e.g : none of Naoko's stories..)

I don't even know why I'm still trying to argue and to explain things to someone this narrow-minded..

Agree on the point that we need at least ONE good yuri anime. Girl friends has the foundation to be a good anime, tho I'd like to see an Octave, Hanjuku joshi or even a Gokujou drop adaptation too.

In terms of anime art, my favourite is Shinichiro Watanabe.

Yea, I figured it was a Stern ritter but can't remember who. The last arc was unfortinately .. bad. Even if it's not totally Kubo's fault, Dang you WSJ. I'd have liked if Kubo trolled and made Ywach or Aizen kill everyone in the 686.

Kubo's background aren't great, but his character are so fucking well drawn it's stunning. For me no mangaka can match him in term of character drawing.

Too bad his writing is kind of bad, and his editors are jerk.
