Maybe I've been reading too many SoL dramas but the last few paragraphs felt kind of ominous to me.

Eh, I mean, on one hand, I definitely get the impression that Adachi was saying "I love you" because she was hoping to hear it echoed back.

On the other hand, they were snuggled up and feeding each other.

I mean, I have no doubt there's gonna be plenty of drama down the road, but I think "ominous" is overstating it.

ShimaMom just walking past the door to see AdaShima just holding hands and smiling at each other and suddenly taking an intense interest in Adachi was fantastic

You could basically hear the quote marks in ShimaMom's voice every time she called Adachi your """Friend"""

Plus this is only shortly after Shimamura got all dressed up and pretty for her trip to a festival with a """Friend""" which mom helped her with.

Yeah, I'm pretty freaking sure she knows exactly what's going on.

Ok, imagine you're that woman Kara, you're going to your work as any other day like the standard person you are, you see a girl on the street who looks hurt, you'll probably go see if she's ok right? but then the girl starts saying that she's a rArE mUtAtIoN oF vAmPiRe, and then you believe her...
...GIRL??? nO
Call an ambulance, she's probably crazy or just a really edgy teenager, no one would ever think she was telling the truth, but the character goes like "iS tHaT tRuE?" she says "yes" and then "Oh, ok fine"? I understand, she just woke up, probably a lil groggy, but believe, i wouldn't ask if that's true, i'd ask if she's ok.
The thing is: Is she actually telling the truth? Yes, she is. But before she proves it, she's just crazy for everyones' eyes.
It bothered me because it was just unrealistic. And if the character really is not the type that would freak out about that, it could at least show it for everyone to understand on page 1.

And then, and then the girl just- just fucking sMILES and she says "Oh I lOvE hEr" oh give me a break, if i wanted to see unrealistic things like that i'd watch Disney's golden era movies.

I understand that ppl likes stories like this, believe me, i'm one of those ppl, but... when it's at least a little realistic.
I'll come back in the future to check out and see if that character is actually just weird overall.
(I actually LOVE Neji's other stories, "Like a Snowfall in Spring" was just so beautiful and "Vacation Maou to Pet" was funny and had nice characters, but this one... idk)

I mean, you're assuming that this isn't a fantasy world where cute lesbian monster-girls are real and everybody knows about them, even though that's been the case for every other series Neji has written.

Also, the very first thing she did was sink her fangs into the other girl's neck and drink blood until she passed out, so yeah, I think I'd probably also go with "rare vampire" over "emo kid" as a conclusion.

Lmao I like how Kaoru has a rare moment of clarity thinking "wait a second, Uta has feelings for me", then a second later she goes nope, gotta stop blaming myself. And this doesn't even make sense as a response for disassociating from the situation so fast lmao.

I'm a little hesitant to bring it up, but the scene makes sense the way the other group translated that. She starts to neg herself for not considering Uta's feelings, and then (rightly) recognizes that beating herself up won't fix anything and that she has to be proactive to improve her situation. It felt like a turning point, here it feels a bit more nonsequiter.

Turns out this was about Kaoru's unrequited love the entire time

Everybody's love in this series is unrequited, at least at first. Uta loves Kaoru, Kaoru loves Reiichi, Reiichi loves Risako, Risako loves Kaoru, Miyabi loves Kuro, Kuro just loves watching Uta twist in the wind.

Most every relationship in this series is lopsided, with some kind of unrequited feelings.

So serious plot/character discussion aside....

https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/my_unrequited_love_ch33#10

I know the little action lines on the door here are supposed to represent her being startled by the door opening, because she's tense, but paired with the previous page and how far away she was before, it kinda looks like she did a little anime-style martial arts teleport, which amused the hell out of me.

I can't believe they just drove off a cliff at the end.

Nah, it's just a magic flying lesbian taxi.

People are just going to be who they are, no matter how you want them to be. Even if you're their parent, your kids are different people from you.

Yeah, it seems to me like dad is the one destroying the family, and mom... Oh man, well, she's just blaming herself but it's not clear for what exactly. The family is falling apart because the "idea" of family the adults have is a fake one and they don't realize it.

Obviously Mogu can't go back to that house. Really Sakura shouldn't be in that house. The adults need some counseling, but in Japan there is a stigma about that. The kids both need to live somewhere else for the time being.

Honestly, Mogu's mom should divorce their dad. He's clearly an abusive fuckstick who is ruining his daughter and wife's emotional lives, leaving them both with serious mental health problems, and who has estranged himself from Mogu. He is 100% all of their problems and everybody would be happier if he took a long walk off a short pier. I hope Sakura gets a chance to see Tetsu's family dynamic and realize that her dad is an abusive shithead.

Was Doumyou a necessary character in this manga?

I mean, she served a function in the plot. "Necessary" is subjective, but she does illustrate how an outside perspective can be blind to the kind of abuse that goes on inside a relationship.

From her perspective, Midori is a smooth talker who swiped the guy she said she liked, possibly cheated on him with another woman. (and then skipped out on work to flounce around with her girlfriend, while not telling her fiancee where she is or when she's coming back.)

From our perspective, we know Midori was already dating Tazune (and having second thoughts) when Doumyou told her she liked him, and we know that after their relationship was "locked in" Tazune turned into an emotionally (and later physically) abusive shithead who drove Midori away, and that Maki is a sweet person who values Midori and cares for her in a way Tazune clearly doesn't.

Not saying Doumyou is a saint, mind you, she's definitely done some questionable things, but she also definitely has no reason to have a positive opinion of Midori at this point. She doesn't really have any way to know what an abusive dick Tazune is in private, either.

And this is pretty typical in a lot of abusive relationships. The abuser twists things around to hurt the reputation of the abused.

I dunno why folks still have it against Doumyou so hard, like shit she didn't like, immediately gossip about her coworker being gay or w/e.

Walking around the city and taking photos of people who are in the middle of a physical display of affection is generally considered a jerk move.

Heck, if you're caught, there's a good chance you'll get a beating.

Claiming that you know those people and that they are cheating on someone else and that you took the pic because of this reason (to use it as evidence when/if you rat on them) actually makes it even worse.

I...don't see how? "These people are doing something that will hurt someone I care about" definitely seems like a better excuse then "i'unno, they gay?"

I mean, I'm not saying I agree with what she did, but I don't see how the reason makes it worse. It means she has a personal stake in what they're doing.

Is it over? If yes thank god it ended on a fine note.My heart can't take anymore of this.

Nah, last page has つづく, which basically means "to be continued". I imagine we'll get at least some portion of them establishing their life as a couple, dealing with parents, dealing with Midori's job, and so forth. They aren't out of the woods yet.

Im worried about the mom. What if she contacts Tazune and he snaps?

Considering it's Maki's mom, I don't see why she'd do that.

Oh, yeah, youre right.

I mean, I'm still a bit worried. We don't know where she stands on LGBT issues at all, and she clearly had no idea her daughter is gay. If she throws Maki out, that's gonna make for a rough situation for them.

The official pairing feels really forced to me. Yori x Aki seems more natural.

For me it's the other way around. Aki's feelings for Yori feel a bit forced for me while Yori x Himari feels really natural.

I don't get comments like these.

What's forced about -any- of those relationships? They are all dynamics that, y'know, happen. All the time. People falling for cool upperclassmen that are in a band? Ohhh, yeah. People falling for their best friend, or becoming friends with someone hoping it'll become more? Definitely. People falling for cute underclassmen that come up and confess to them (she thought) after school? I mean, yeah. Those are all pretty common, natural things. Where's the "forcing"?

I get liking one pairing better, thinking one pairing has better chemistry or whatever, but "forced" just seems like a sloppy way of saying "I don't like it as much."

(and if you don't like Yori x Himari, I'm not sure why you stuck around after the first chapter, because it's not like the series has been subtle about them.)

Wasn't the ex-singer the one who quit ? Why would you be mad when you're the one who leave. Also did i remember wrong but wasn't ex singer ship with the Cooking club Senpai ?

Ikr I also thought that she quit and wasn't replaced and if so like why is she mad then??

I'm gonna float a guess and say she was into Aki, and so she quit when Aki fell for another singer and is bitter about being overlooked.

"Yay, we got meat!" Has Nozomi been raising her on tofu?

I'm pretty sure beef is a bit of a luxury item in japan, mostly reserved for special occasions. Rice and veggies, omelettes, soba, and fish are common daily foods, but when you've got beef or pork that's a special meal. From time to time you see characters in manga getting jazzed at the opportunity to eat meat.

Total lack of self-consciousness about their physical position; even Shino's freakout at the end was about seeing where the ring 'should' be. I enjoy the story, but I'm not betting much on actual yuri, we're not even at the subtext level now.

I would disagree, I think we're pretty deeply in subtext territory. Maybe my perceptions are being colored by all the deliberately yuritastic promotional image the author draws, but while it's questionable whether they'll act on it (I mean, Shino is a minor, and the familial relationship definitely makes things complicated) I think there's definitely an attraction between them.

Tron-legacy

But whatever, we're actually seeing a flashback right now, Shino from the future already told us that things will go terrible at some point and nothing can stop it from happening.

Umm what flashback is that exactly where we get this Future Shino prediction?

The page is this https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/living_with_my_brothers_wife_ch75#16
But what will happen? Will she be married again or will she go to other country maybe a suicide attempt? Aghh i just want a fluffy yuri end, but this suffering is so good!

Also, coming back to this after rereading a bit, I'd describe this as a flash forward rather than describing everything since as a flashback.

Whatever you call it, in the flash forward, they're clearly at Nozomi's parents' place, as they are now (You can recognize the living room here https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/living_with_my_brothers_wife_ch75 as the same one they're in now) So I don't think it's so much that things "will go terrible" so much as "things are terrible now and we're on the brink of a breakdown." So I think you're thinking too big. For one thing, I'll eat my sock if there's a suicide attempt. This isn't that kind of story and I can't see Nozomi going there. She's just dealing with grief, she doesn't have a lot of signs of serious mental illness. Probably she's just gonna have a breakdown, maybe they have a fight over the fact that Nozomi keeps pretending she's fine when she's not. She's not getting married or leaving, she's just hurt and Shino feels responsible.

Yeah.

You can hope that maybe he'll stop being a jerk.

More likely might be realizing that neither of them wants the marriage anymore -- at least, wasn't he chivvied in due to her pregnancy? -- and agreeing to bail, to go be a jerk to the other woman.

Yeah, I don't see it being that easy. Guys like him are ruled by ego, and the idea that she could leave him, and for another woman no less, would be a direct injury to his pride. He probably regards both Midori and the child as his property, and even if he treats them like shit, he's not gonna let somebody take "what's his". This is gonna get ugly before it gets better for sure.

uncertain posted:

Has a childhood friend who transferred away ever been mentioned in a manga without them popping up immediately?

I think that conversation of people going away was just build up for their crisis

Yeah, I think the point is to show Shino's thought process. When she thinks back about people she used to know because she found a keepsake from them, she thinks about how they ended things. Then she's trying to figure out why Nozomi won't wear the ring, and it dawns on her that if this is how Nozomi processed the ring, then by giving it to her, she ran her back through all the trauma of Taishi's death and reminded her of all her grief and loss.

She did it! Wrote the lyrics of the song on the manga! The absolute madwoman!

Are those song lyrics? It's hard to tell from a translation, I took it as a paraphrase of her feelings in general rather than actual lyrics.
