I mean I get the concept of a character being redicuiously dense for comedy. But that was just sad.

I would be willing to bet, given the nature of the rest of the scene, that at least some of that was an act because she wanted to get a close look at her lover's naughty parts.

Edit: I am really glad it worked out though. At first I thought that Ookuma would stubbornly stick to her delusion that Kanda was a boy. Then at the end, when Ookuma was getting undressed, I had the surreal thought that she would end up being a guy. It all made sense in my head. The really old fashion ideas on staying chaste during dating, The whole weird issue of Ookuma having problems identifying genitalia. I thought for sure it would turn out that Ookuma was a boy and that Ookuma's parents raised her/him as a girl for some strange reason that would only make sense in a manga. Ookuma's wacky parents would be introduced in the next chapter begging Kanda to not tell Ookuma the truth. Thus starting the next story arc.

That was a surprisingly sappy wrap up, for such a grity drama / romance.... Almost too sappy. It was just a bit too convenient how Midori and Maki each had a chance to demonstrate that they have overcome the character flaws that have been plaguing them all series, with just a page or two of exposition.

Every other character shitting on them and saying they won't work out, so sappy and kawaii

What our you talking about? Whem Maki stood up to her mom. proving Maki had developed a will of her own. Her mother accepted Midori into the family. And when Midori stood up to that bitch, proving she wasn't drifting from person to person out of fear of being alone anymore the bitch sent them flowers, as "congratulations for the happy couple".
Happy ending. I suspect there will be an epilogue chapter, or an extra or two, but the main plot seems to have been pretty much all wrapped up with a cute little bow.

This reminds me about a deck building card game called Barbarossa. The creaters took an old WWII card game, kept the rules but took the original card art work and replaced it with scantily clad anime girls. It's set in a fictional WWII where cute german military girls rush to Moscow to defeat the evil magician Stallin.
My friends taught me how to play at a gaming con. It was so embarrassing, because people kept coming over to our table to see what game we were playing. My friends said my face was beet red the whole game. But the game was pretty fun.

I really would have liked this if it was more subtle and less over the top. However I think i'll enjoy it this way too.

I really laughed at the bit Where Claire snarks "So, you're one of those people, is that it?" and Rei answers "Ah no. Well actually maybe" It reminded me of a Family Guy gag for some reason.

Why doesn't Kanda- kun just go ahead and kiss Ookuma? That would prove that admitting she was a girl wasn't just a weird way to avoid the kiss.

Wow. That "see me naked to prove I'm a girl" line scored Kanda- kun a bath with Ookuma? Next time I'm on a date I'm going claim I'm really a girl.

I'm super confused about the usage of the word "Straight" in this.

Like, I get it when stories use it for girls who aren't straight when they just haven't realized that they're gay/whatever, but this woman has literally been in a serious relationship with another woman for a full month, is explicitly willing to have sex with said woman, is not in the closet or otherwise trying to hide her interests and there's no implication what so ever that they're just "pretend dating."

And yet both characters somehow consider her a "straight" woman that only men have a chance with?
They're both clearly aware that the "straight" girl is entirely willing to date and sleep with women just from a personal desire to do so, how on earth do you even rationalize thinking of such a woman as "straight?" It doesn't make any sense!

Is this next-level useless lesbians? Is this what it means to go beyond? Useless Lesbian 2? Plus Ultra?

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not Japanese, but I think the Japanese version of comphet includes the idea that it's perfectly possible for a straight woman to date another woman "in a straight way" as long as the relationship conforms to a certain stereotype - an older partner who's beautiful and experienced and basically perfect, and a younger partner who idolizes her. Think Maria-sama ga Miteiru.

The senpai is directly invoking that myth here. She tries to play the part of the perfect onee-sama because she thinks that's the only way this "straight" girl would date her.

The kouhai also buys into it and doesn't question her sexuality because she can tell herself she's just "admiring" her perfect senpai.

Of course the joke is that the actual dynamic of their relationship is completely different.

That sounds suspiciously like school girl love games, that I've been told in no uncertain terms modern yuri has gotten away from using as a plot device.
