Man, when I first read this I thought the manga was okay at best, but Saori and Shizuku's dynamic really does it for me. There's not much else out there like them.

Fantastic one-shot! I love when stories sequester away the romantic relationship like this so we see it from only one person's point of view, or even an entirely unrelated person's point of view. There's a great contrast between the more "mature" relationship and the developing puppy love. I guess you could say the younger sister just had a desire for friendship, but I think it's deliberately ambiguous. Either way, from the ending it's pretty clear that learning about this is bringing her closer to "adulthood."

This is pretty solid. I love how Miu moves from idealizing the idea of a prince to acknowledging that the one she loves is actually a princess. It's very dramatic, but I think drama works especially well in a one volume format. When you're working with such a short format, it helps to make it memorable.

...Also, this thread is full of some of the worst nonsense criticism I've ever seen in my time on this site. Good lord.

Stupid. She’s tough so she’s not a girl but she loves sweets so she actually is a girl. This is the logic of the deranged and neurotic. I love food and cooking as much as anyone but personally I’ve had enough dessert. When the manga girls are eating headcheese and offal, I’ll be interested. Conservative censorship, otaku fordism, and gacha mindsets have created a vacuum of creative intrigue. The artists with an appreciation for the eroticism of liberated young women railing lines and having affairs no longer find an outlet in manga. We desperately need our delinquents back. 90% of new releases are the fantasy of people who both fear and shun the DoorDash courier and all the world they cannot see from their gaming chair. And oh, she’s a violent gang leader who secretly eats pastries all day and mostly just accosts street artists minding their own business? She’s a cop.

I get where they're coming from though. I really am not a fan of these one-note premises. Just way too shallow. Maison Ikkoku was a romcom and from 40 years ago. Why can't we have a yuri romcom like that? This is just air and nothing.

I'll admit that I'm a bit worried that this will just stay regular Kirara fluff and not really develop into anything, but there's already hints of how having to hide their love of their respective foods is indicative of how they have to slot themselves into acting more masculine/feminine more broadly. It's not like the author can't do something interesting with this premise.

The internal monologue around the husband made me burst out laughing. The MC in this is a treat.

I was really surprised by the dynamic between Reimu and Sanae here, but then I realized that this is from before Wild and Horned Hermit, probably even from before Undefined Fantastic Object, so it's not like the author had a ton to go off of in terms of Sanae lore. And she's really cute as an older sister/class rep figure, anyways.

Just completed another re-read of this. Still as fantastic as ever, easily my favorite yuri manga.

And I'm continually astounded by how much I enjoyed the translation here. I actually bought the manga a while back, and the official translation isn't bad necessarily, but this one has so much more character.

The Edison print yukata killed me for a moment there. Really romantic and funny one-shot.

This is cute, but I feel like I’ve read this exact plotline like five times already. And there’s a big jump in Mary and Snow’s relationship between the tea incident and the ball that feels really jarring.

Really cute. I was half expecting the plan to crash and burn, but I probably shouldn't have been. I'm glad for Kasumi, though.

I've been going through the old /u/ reclist, and there's a lot of aggressively mediocre stuff on there, but this is absolutely excellent. I love how well defined Hotei's viewpoint is. I see a lot of talk about how ambiguous the love is here, and like yes, kind of, they explicitly say that's what they were going for in the extras, but Ebisu compares Hotei to her old boyfriends that her sister stole away. I can't say I wouldn't have liked to see a kiss, though...

This is some of the worst pacing I've seen in my life. None of these characters are fully developed, they're just a bunch of cardboard cutouts. And the reveal flattens out any kind of complex feeling we might have derived from You and Akane into sisterly love. If this went the incest route, I might have respected it even if I wouldn't enjoy it, but there is not a single interesting thing going on here. I expect my fluff to be more interesting than this, let alone something selling itself as a classroom death game drama.

Overall I think the manga is somewhat mediocre, but the pairing is so so fantastic. They're so cute with each other. Unfortunately, my opinion is that you need dynamic side characters for a truly fantastic yuri manga, and what we have here is a bunch of cardboard cutouts. And I kind of wish there was a kiss scene, but I can't hold points for that, of course.

Oh, this is so lovely… not so much on an artistic level, but I’m such a sucker for this kind of real life love story. High school is such a wild time.

And I’m so happy to hear that they’re still together. Love is real. Although it’s funny to think that they’re still only somewhere in their mid 30s if the story happened in 2007. There’s so much time out there.

Absolutely amazing, Morishima at her peak. I came here from Honey & Mustard, and I love that couple, but I like Himeno and Shiraha even more. And the general office dynamic is so great.

Short but sweet. Go chase down chapter 1, it's well worth it.
