Don't buy the Viz official translation. First of all, they got rid of all honorifics per their localization policy. It is okay in some cases, but I think a series that relies heavily on dialogue and nuance like this one suffers from such a change . And there are various consistency issues that stand out to a casual reader like me. Koyuki refers to Kaede by first name then switches to last name in the span of 4 pages (chapter 18). I guess the translator wanted to make the characters sound like they're on a first name basic (they aren't) but failed to apply the change consistently.

And then this blatant mistake in Koyuki's monologue (chapter 10) that could have been avoided with the slightest bit of attention:

In this scene Koyuki thinks about how she has changed because of Konatsu (fan translation). But apparently the translator didn't bother to remember the main character names, or he thought Konatsu was the one doing the monologue. Either way, this kind of careless mistake is unacceptable for an official translation from a major publisher. The quality control (or lack thereof) speaks volume about how little Viz cares about their products.

Mistakes aside, the translation zigzags between heavy localization at some points and playing it too safe at others. Early on the characters speak like stereotypical American teenagers (Can you imagine Koyuki ever exclaiming: "Oh man, this is gonna suck!"?) with a health dose of "yes ma'am" on the side. This is toned down soon, only to be replaced by dispassionate, by-the-book dialogue. At the fireworks scene (chapter 8) in fan translation, Konatsu asks Koyuki "Why did you call out to me when we first met?". The official version of this line is merely "Why did you speak to me?" which reduces the impact in my opinion.

It's not necessarily the translator's fault that this release quality is subpar. The translator, John Weery, is one of the main guys at Viz who are in charge of several weekly Shounen Jump series. Given his overwhelming workload on a weekly basic, it wouldn't be a surprise if this niche series wasn't high on his priorities (heck, he even made similar mistakes in the flagship mainstream series Demon Slayer). Not to mention that Nettaigyo is hardly similar to your average battle shounen in both tone and style. The real question is why Viz assigned this series to someone who was both overworked and unsuitable for the content, and why they failed to provide any degree of professional quality control/proofreading. Though we all know the answer is because they simply don't care.

TL/DR: Official translation is horrible with various mistakes, consistency issues, and overall just feels bland. Do yourself a favor and read the fan translation. Buy Japanese version if you want to support the author, but don't reward Viz for a botched job of a translation.

I know the posts right above were talking about her new serialization but according to Mangaupdates that seems to have ended already with a volume compilation being released a few weeks ago. Not sure if that's accurate.

I don't know where that poster got the info from, but I can't find any news about a serialization, let alone one with 10 chapters. Hagino Makoto's latest book that you mentioned is a collection of five short stories with sci-fi theme.

... yeah what's with these celebrity stories indeed, are the characters at least a reference to some actual celebrities and this is just some weird quasi-fanfiction, or do manhua writers just like this theme for some reason?

CEOs and celebrities to China (and Korea) is like high school girls to Japan in term of prevalence in their respective media.

Is the white maiden's werewolf scanlated yet?

Up to chapter 6 on Mangadex

It looks like the same author as dear my teacher

Only the art. The writer is someone else.

Now if only someone could translate 貓與海的彼端 by the same artist. It won a silver at the 2022 International Manga Awards. That story is truly beautiful.

I got mad because I expected comments about the chapter, but got page count complaints instead

Probably because there is not a lot of content to comment about. And people would naturally be taken aback when the new chapter is one third of the usual length.

As for the reason why, I guess the mangaka was busy preparing for her other series' first tankobon, which was released last month.

What authority marked it as completed? Aoto themselves?

In a sense. There wasn't a number on volume 1 cover, which indicated that there was no plan for a second volume back then. So we're lucky the author decided to make more of this.

Lemonade (Poly Yuri Anthology). The tagline was "Sweet and happy love stories featuring 3 people or more."
An anthology organised by Canno

Of course it's Canno.

Yurihime try not to axe series that have themes of polyamory challenge (impossible)

This was actually run in a seinen magazine. I doubt a series with this combination of tags would be serialized in YuriHime in the first place.

sick of the manga industry stifling good art because it needs to sell to the lowest common denominator to make a profit. sick of capitalism lol.

Art is subjective. This series got a fair chance just like everything else in the same magazine (which mostly consists of niche, low profiles series that most people here never heard of, definitely not lowest common denominator stuff).

Is Saburouta going Hitoshi Iwaaki route with publishing unfinished chapters then fixing them later in the tanks?

So is the protagonist name Tada or Tano? Did Sawa get the name wrong literally seconds after the introduction?

Wait, are we gonna have a High School Yuri story that doesn't have a "But we're two girls!" Moment?! Both characters seem aware of their own sexuality right out the gates, which is kinda nice.

It's increasingly rare to find "but we're both girls" moments in modern yuri works (high school setting or otherwise), which is not necessarily a positive thing in my book. It's like trading the angst and drama for fluffy wish fulfillment. Ideally you want a little bit of both in the genre.

The art is super adorable and character dynamic is fun though not exactly original. Kudos to the scanlation group for the charming translation and the excellent redrawing.

OMG! It's a series! Ready to download this into my soul.

It's not though. It's a collection of oneshots and only the first 2 chapters are directly related, though all of them have the same theme and probably settings. At least that how it looks based on the table of content.

Nice. So the first oneshot does have a follow-up (which makes it a two-shot?). This author is apparently fond of post-apocalypse theme.

subtext Why was this in YH then?

YH publishes subtext oneshots once in a while.

Can't say I'm impressed with the PV and the anime art style. It just looks cheap to me. But better than nothing I guess.

leave that for an hypothetical beginning of the season 2

I like your optimism.

"Let's end the manga"
"Hm, it would make a nice plot point if the girl's manga is axed, just to see how they will cope with the cruel reality they can't escape from. Thanks for the idea, editor-san."
"No, I mean YOUR manga is ending. But feel free to use that idea for the ending."

Didn't this mangaka once complain about low sales, saying that Futari Escape didn't sell as well as his previous shounen works? He wouldn't be surprised then . 3-4 volumes is typical for the average Yuri Hime series.

I think this one thing might somewhat point at the end being just a tiny bit rushed - with a couple more chapters they could get to a hug or something and it wouldn't be inconsistent with the story so far at all.

I feel the ending is not so much rushed as just plain average. Everything about it (composition, art, dialogue) is so basic it doesn't make me feel a thing, while the first chapter left quite a strong impression on me.

I think it was also a lot about the journey, not the destination

I also care more about the journey than the destination. It's not the romantic outcome that I find disappointing , but the fact that the two main characters somehow became less interesting than when they started out. It's like they stopped growing around chapter 10 and had remained flat ever since. Even their ranges of expressions toward the end are rather limited. Or maybe I'm just biased against the art style Usui Shio ended up with.

Well, that was kinda lackluster. I can't help but feel the author lost interest in this series half way in. Even the art is not as good as in the beginning. What a shame because I had high hope for Doughnuts reading the first two volumes but it just petered out around the same time whatshername showed up and then meandered through the end. Still a nice story but could have been much better. I wondered if this manga was negatively affected by the artist starting a second series.

Isn't she into Liaoliao herself? I figure Liaoliao has to come up with the boyfriend story because the co-worker keeps hitting on her.
