The author really turned everything upside down. The confession goes awry and the two go their separate ways. The last pages show their reunion several years later, when they are both married

i would love to see that not gonna lie

Yeah... ask the author of Hoshino, Me o Tsubutte how those kinds of twists work out ;)

It seems like the author didn't manage to fit the ending within the previous volume,

Out of curiosity, what gave you the impression that the intention was to wrap it up within the last volume?

This chapter seems to point to the author wanting to fill space. It doesn't add anything to the story and is just spinning its wheels. That + the high probability that the story is reaching its conclusion. It's not really about them intending to wrap it up in the last volume, as much as not being able to cleanly fit it in in this one (or the next one).

Either this or the author is really underestimating the reader and feels like there is a need to rephrase explicitly everything that is going on with Kurokawa.

It seems like the author didn't manage to fit the ending within the previous volume, so now they have to throw in some filler chapters to round it up. I can't recall how many chapters/volume are there in it, but I think this is the first half of vol 6 or vol 7 and it really doesn't feel like there is that much story left to tell.

less explicitly gay for Nanami, more impressed by her confidence and beauty (and implicitly gay).

I don't think it reads as in any way romantic. The whole chapter comes off as Kurokawa basically worshipping Fujishiro's strength and beauty in the context of "I wish I could be so strong and beautiful, so I could do things I always wanted to do but was too weak and inadequate to pursuit". If you mean that those feelings should be portrayed as less borderline obsessive, then there might be a point, but I don't know how one could read those as romantic.

Even something as simple as "カバーはおかけしますか" was mistranslated.

I disagree. A translation is not about translating words. It's about translating the whole context. If you are not interested in Japan, you would be confused as to why the clerk would ask to put covers on magazines. Bagging it is a more natural situation for a western audience.

Man, good thing we got that "wtf am I reading" tag in there. I won't even try to guess how many tags this will grab before it's over.

I really, really doubt that she would react that way to her ex-girlfriend getting intimate with her 14-year-old sister. She'd be more likely to slap Kyouko and tell her to leave them alone for good.

More importantly, I don't think there are any feelings from Kyouko's side to Ruriko. She just invites her, so she can give in to melancholy and look at Nacchan. She kissed her because she broke down while thinking about Nacchan. Ruri is just in the middle of that mess and happens to look almost exactly like her sister.

Ruri's feelings are also very immature, to begin with. She's not really in love with Kyouko, she's in love with the concept of a refined, beautiful adult. Because "she's not a kid", hence she can't go out with some kid now, can she?

If there were to be such a development, it would probably require a timeskip of 4+ years. But I guess that's what interesting about this story - it can go in every direction and at this point, I can't even begin to guess which way the author is planning to take it.

Wasn't the last story arc all about Yae's ex-crush cheating on her boyfriend with her fencing bestie?

Yes, but they were technically going out only between chapters 7 and 11. If we only counted sex, then it would be just chapters 10 and 11. If we really stretch it to vague emotional cheating, then it's 4-11, but I don't recall any other story being tagged that way.

Whichever way, unless this new arc moves to Cheating in some way, it will make it 1/3 - doesn't really seem necessary to tag the whole work.

Yeah. This is the first case where Kase's behavior is clearly harmful and unjustified.

I haven't looked at it from this perspective. This is, indeed, a good point. Really curious how will they play off it - in many manga, it's just day like every day, but in real life, something like this could turn into a really major, potentially life-ruining issue.

Even if it doesn't, I don't see Kase getting out of this unscathed, since it's someone Yamada respects and who she explicitly told her not to worry about.

but Yamada discounting Kase's fears and jealousy and not taking her concerns seriously is just as big of a problem

Not really. Because, hypothetically speaking, it doesn't matter how much he would want to get with her, he can't take away someone who doesn't want to be taken away. I guess it makes sense in the teen relationship context, but they've been together for a good while now and Yamada has never shown any intention to stray. At some point, the lack of trust Kase has shown, in itself, starts to become poison to the relationship.

Yes, it is rooted in Yamada's inherent lack of self-esteem.

If anything, it's all rooted in Kase's self-esteem issues, if she thinks that all it would take for Yamada to drop her is a pretty face flower boy. This girl literary uprooted her whole life within a few months and moved across the country for her not even a year ago.

That only works if they were just taking regular classes at regular colleges.
They've already covered some of the other aspects that make meeting up on the regular tricky (commute times, curfews, etc.)

I know they did, but it still doesn't make sense to me. I've known people in medical unis, which are notorious for being by far the most intensive you can get into, and even they have some free time, as long as they didn't fall behind at any point. I don't think I had more than 30 hours once during my MSc.

If they can't meet at least once a week for a few hours, they are doing the relationship wrong. I guess that's part of the greater lack of communication issue they are having since they obviously need more time together to alleviate their insecurities, whoever is having some any given week.

Well, I guess it kinda makes sense from a couple of kids who aren't even 20 yet out in the world for the first time. Just sad that every chapter makes me sigh instead of smiling.

I kinda can't with this series lately. They don't communicate, just mop around and repeat the same patterns. It feels like it's been years since this relationship made any progress.

I can kinda get Yamada's insecurities a bit, since she is a bit of an introvert and worrywart + Kase is surrounded by all kinds of beauties, at least a couple of whom seem to have feelings for her. I don't really get why she can't commit to answering to Kase's proposing moving in together the following year, but whatever.

At the same time, Kase is all insecure and jealous while she pretty much flirts with half the girls around her. Still feel like the Flower Prince is kinda sketch, especially with him complimenting half the campus, but she doesn't know that and Yamada never gave her any real reason to worry - hell, she was never even an object of anyone's interest, as far as I can remember.

And I honestly can't, for the life of me, understand how is that they can't meet regularly. I get that they are at pretty prestigious unis, but I doubt their classes take more than 30-40 hours/week. There is pleeeeenty of time to arrange for stuff, yet they act like they can't see each other for weeks at the time.

It's somehow more frustrating than any other series I'm reading, and it supposed to be fluff...

The further down the line, the less Cheating tag put on the whole story feels appropriate. At this point, Cheating is present, looking quite generously, in chapters 7-11. 4-11 if we really stretch it to the absolute limits.

Just a pet peeve, because it always puts me off, before I remember what it is.

Since I like to look through useless data, the timeline seems to be as follows.

In the first half of Chapter 2 Nacchan is 25, at the beginning of chapter 1 Kyouko is described as "an older friend of my sister", so unless it's poor wording, she's probably a bit older than Nacchan (not to mention she looks older too). When Kyouko meets Ruri in chapter 1 she notes, that she is "in middle school now", which suggests she wasn't when she was still meeting Nacchan, which puts Ruri's age at the end of chapter 2 as at most 12.

In Chapter 1 Ruri is 14, which means at least 2 years has passed since events in chapter 2, so Nacchan is 27+ and Kyouko probably a bit older than that.

That's about it, I don't think I've missed anything. I guess it is unknown how much time has passed between Tsurumaki's introduction (when Nacchan's 25 is mentioned) and their falloff, so that might add something, but I don't think it would be more than a year.

That is if the story actually has a consistent timeline.

No matter how I look at it, that pairing just doesn't work for me. It's not even about the age gap, Sakura just never seemed to show much interest in anyone from the group, she's feeling like less of a character in the story, than Rin's grandpa, so it's really hard to justify that kind of development.

Rin also feels completely unlike herself in the doujin. She would have never even tried to ride through the mountains in the rain, to begin with, so it kinda breaks their whole initial interaction. Same with the "I'm starting to hate myself" comment - completely out of character. Doesn't really affect the core story, but pulls you out of it from the very beginning.

Ah, the good ol "what I wanna do with my life". Fortunately, I had my path set on CS since I was fairly young, but even with that, after some time, I couldn't escape the feeling that virtually no 18-years-old knows what they want to do, because they don't have enough experiences to make the decision. It would be perfect to wait at least a few more years to make the call, but at the same time, you can't because you will fall behind. A really weird point in one's life.

Hmm... it's not like I didn't notice the inadequacy/jealousy theme, but I couldn't put my finger on it, so I've shoved it in as something that emphasized the pressure of trying to build "something for her own". I guess that makes more sense, although I honestly can't empathize with the choice she made.

Man, reread the chapter and it bummed me out. The smile at p39 makes me tear up.

I thought Nacchan loved Kyouko and would've wanted to go out with her, but I guess there was stuff holding her back

It's not said as explicitly as in many others, but it's the usual stuff, isn't it? Societal pressure to create a "family unit", having stable employment, etc. She missed because she was scared, and later, she hit also because she was scared/already committed to this path and didn't want to feel like sacrificing Kyouko was meaningless.

At the end of chapter 1, she's all smiles and happiness until she is reminded of Kyouko by the gifts and immediately loses it.

So kinda predictable I guess. Nacchan is peeved, because she has regrets over not being able to commit to Kyouko, Kyouko is all over the place because she is still in love with her, and Ruri is stuck somewhere in the middle of adult's problems.

Feels bad for Kyouko, stuck in the void for who knows how many years.

Another thing. Is is only menstruation blood? Cause like the witch collected it from the two girls too didn't she? And I don't think they were on their period. So I thought she collected like the blood that was shed when she took their virginity but idk

That fits the description too, since "blood can only be taken once from pure girls" or something like that. Yeah, this one definitely has very strong and uncomfortable rapey vibes. Change artsyle to something less moe and it would be even more apparent. It must have been done as a kind of a spoof since it's basically rape/ntr/blackmail in a dumb setting. And I guess prostitution too since the witch sold them off for the nectar. Very uncomfortable.

If I understand the author's fanbox correctly, Ch.11 should start going on sale around mid-March, so we will be finally able to get off that cliff soon.

at this point we only come here to see what new fuck ups are waiting for us, dont we?

And the biggest joke is that the last 2 chapters had literary no story progression. Liz playing the victim and Maki feeling bad over nothing. That's half a year of content... At least the next chapter will probably bring in some drama since they are both on the move, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got baited and they just miss running into each other. I guess we got to find out that Maki has no luck or agency in her relationships, but the author is letting the story breathe like someone who releases at least 20p/month, not 10p/3 months.

The best-case scenario would probably be about Liz talking with senpai in the car about whatever, them coming back to Liz's place, senpai kissing her or something when she's about to get out of the car, Liz turns around and Maki stand there. TBC.
