I can honestly see this happening in the run where Eva became the Golden Witch. And under duress, Natsuhi just might defer to the new head of the Ushiromiya family... Love their expressions, love this art.

Honestly I think leaning into what counts as masculine behavior for a new tag is unhelpful. Once you get past childhood, the difference isn't very dramatic. I mean, feminine girls can be good at sports, and in fact that is what most sports manga about girls are.

I think what we need is some way of masculine looking characters being identified regardless of age or behavior. I guess it could be, if they don't have the behavior to fit into Tomboy, they go into this tag instead. Of course, I'm speaking from what I want. I am feeling sad that there's potentially a lot of manga about masculine looking women floating around that I'm not seeing. The question is whether just short hair is enough and where you draw that line. I don't know that "I know it when I see it" is adequate.

Lmao, yeah, I found that out and read everything in Not yaoi a while ago. If anyone reading this is looking for more butchxbutch, the Boyish^2 anthology should start selling its online version later this month.

I really don't know how to feel about this story! They stabbed me in the heart with the cousin's happiness foretelling her death, and the art continues to be beautiful. I love that they gave us a dance scene right before the chaos started. These are the stakes I was asking for. But on the other hand, a lot of the theming about fate and sacrifice fall apart when neither romantic partner are actually devoted to each other. They both are playing a game and one is not even isekaied. I think for this to get good, the player for Lan Sha needs to enter the game world, and they need to realize the other person's real identity. Thankfully we have hints of that happening already.

I like butch, or you could use boyish, which is the equivalent used in Japanese.

Unfortunately this is all pretty subjective, though. The titular character in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out has short hair, and certainly isn't butch. Whereas in stories like The Real Momoka, Momoka's masculinity is an explicit part of her identity. I don't know that a lot of cases in yuri fit either extreme due to many art styles depicting all women similarly and lesbian identity only occasionally coming up. Not to mention that though they are few, there are masculine women with long hair. Short hair as a tag would probably capture most of them, though.

I wish this tag could get expanded to meaning just a masculine appearance as well, because otherwise it doesn't get tagged on this site and I have no way of finding something I really want to read. Or there could be just a masculine woman tag, I guess.

God, I hope this artist keeps making manga. What an incredible story. I've never before seen yuri address how some lesbians only connect to womanhood through their relationship to women, something I have a lot of experience with. The subtle way that Makoto flirts with Momoka while she's working with other people is so hot, as is the contrast between Momoka's cool lines for her fans and the way she acts around her actual partner. I could just go on and on.

My least favorite trope, I just avoid immediately, so it's not a huge problem for me. It's when an author wants to write a child/adult story, but they want to make it surprising or less appalling or something, so they make the child look like an adult, or the adult an immature failure at life, in a big reversal. Far worse to me is the totally played straight romances between young girls and adult men all over shoujo manga right now.

Something that turns me off of a manga I might otherwise find okay is the homogeneous art style that you find on "cute girls doing cute things" applied to yuri. Half the time that includes just a small amount of subtext and no real yuri, so it basically is those shows in effect. On the polar opposite side, when sex scenes are drawn with disgusting amounts of sweat, it completely fails to be hot to me and just becomes funny.

Hi ^_^
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for any manga or oneshots with a senpai-kouhai relationship(eg. Bloom into you). I don't mind SFW or NSFW :)

My favorite is A Love Letter For The Marching Puppy. It combines traditional yuri ideas about a senpai mentoring a kouhai with the harsh stakes of military life, but without sacrificing cute moments.

It's always crazy where you have those periods in your life where you see someone every day, and then they disappear from you completely. Yet they still leave a mark on you, still stay a part of you... and in this case, completely opened the protagonist to love. This is beautiful.

This is such an interesting coming of age manga. I loved seeing Hatanaka's poor understanding of her desires and attempts to put various labels on them to understand them. I don't know that her relationship with Asami ever got to be romantic, and I think it was more realistic for that (despite the occasional goofy "is this love???" speech bubble shoved in). She wants so badly for this closed person to open to her, and has no idea how to support her, and can't change her past anymore than Asami can to suit her. I wish that this had gotten a proper continuation but I find the ending of volume two a good place to stop anyway.

You can see the horror roots of this author in the scenes where the boundary of life and death become thinner: the grandfather's imagination of his wife, and Nana's struggle with consciousness on top of the mountain. Paradoxically I appreciate as another commenter said how well they manage to keep destructive bugs from seeming disgusting, and bring out all of their behaviors in an interesting and neutral way. The side part about fan clubs and idols does seem out of place, but I think that's the beauty of an author putting together the different things they like into one work. What tender relationships they all have, both platonic and romantic.

I'm surprised how much I've found this fun despite it being classic BL but with girls. It's so common in het romance and then in certain tops in BL to have the love interest be extremely dominant yet tortured and immature, so the "girl" can feel she truly knows him and can fix him.The blatant tropiness of that, how everyone desires the supposedly average protagonist, the random pop-out reactions in the panels, all the rich kid antics and just the very painful style of the art... It's fun, even if it does not at all work on a romantic level.

The slow reveal of how much Yuxuan cares for Lumiao has been so good. She keeps not only accommodating her but going out of her way to make her happy. It feels great to see that portrayal of what love really is beyond just attraction.

I didn't expect that the novel would be even more romantic than the manhua! I am loving this so much. "But I love being caught by you"!!! I'm glad that the novel reminds us how Yvonne's behavior must look to Elsa, who knows nothing of systems and could only think of her half-hearted bullying as pulling pigtails.

If the author reversed the ratio in their manga from 90/10 toilet humor/romance like this to the opposite configuration, I would read it again.

I don't understand why a game about one-dimensional cartoon cookies produces so much hot fanart, but I'm not unhappy about it.

I find the pause before Elsa says "in this lifetime" interesting. It's not impossible this is a story where she is trapped in the game, forced to play it over and over, just like in "Beware of the Villainess".

The sly yet sad way Zhang Guo says she doesn't agree that she's always considerate... I have to wonder if this fake engagement isn't because of just how tired she is of being propositioned, but the lie makes her feel guilty.

It really shows Pandacorya's power that this is currently the top viewed story on Dynasty Scans by a landslide. My friends and I have been bringing up some of the images in it and laughing almost every other day.

I was talking to my friend about this manga today and apparently it's actually somewhat common in Japan for people to have unused homes in rural areas, with the aging population and urbanization. You inherit the property but can't uproot your life to properly use it.

Well, the point is that one of the tasks is dramatically easier than the other two, and in a scenario that just involves cold food, the harsher options still probably can't get that harsh. I think the idea is that you say she's poor and needs charity, and that you would give her old food you wouldn't necessarily want to eat anymore.

I'm very confused as to why people are talking about ntr here. No one is even dating? Doesn't that make it impossible? Am I misunderstanding what ntr means??

Ran keeps staring at Ami and gives her an uncomfortable vibe. She correctly observes Ami's feelings and confronts her about them without making it clear whether she's interested in her or inspecting a love rival. Something about that careful holding of the cards to the chest, and the ending set up of the pure affection between Ami and her crush, makes it feel like Ran is going to ruin it for Ami somehow. I wouldn't jump to NTR myself but that's where I think it's coming from, the strange behavior and ambiguity in who she likes.
