When I first read the RAWs for this chapter (read as in "looked at the pretty pictures") I thought Mei was badass and that Matsuri was just an annoying bitch but reading the translation I have to say that I agree with Matsuri to some extent. Until now Mei has been using Yuzu for her own comfort and didn't give a damn about her feelings. Hopefully that'll change in the next chapters and Mei starts fighting for Yuzu's love.

Women in Japan are supposed to be shy and modest about sexuality and act accordingly, which is why a lot of Japanese porn features women who are only slightly more lively than a dead fish and act as if they're not really enjoying it. I've heard from people who've been to Japan and dated Japanese girls that often their approach to sexuality really is different to what we in the 'west' are used to.
(Of course, this doesn't apply to every single woman, but it's certainly a thing)

so far the story has not given me any reason to care for maki nor understand why youko cares so much about her, it feels more like a schoolgirl crush than actual feelings.

This. I feel that Youko would be better off with another girl. But then again, they're all at the typical "schoolgirl crush" age, most people who "date" this young don't stay together for very long anyway.

You're not off. I thought at first this might be by an artist who draws mostly yaoi or BL but the artist mostly does yuri, which throws me off. I don't really get why they look like men, but eh.

I thought this was by a yaoi artist at first too. The proportions are just completely off, their heads are way too big for their bodies, that makes them look really weird.

The author's other works like Tie Breaker look a bit better though.
