While the question of how Shimamura feels about Tarumi/what would've happened if Tarumi made a move before Adachi is an interesting one, I don't think Shimamura's confusion suggests anything close to the idea that she isn't into Adachi - I more get the impression that she's just, as we know, young and inexperienced and trying to sort out precisely what it is that she does feel and what she's comfortable doing about that.

Deep Shimamura is so, so, so good.......

Shimamura is really enjoying this whole being a girlfriend thing.

It's funny how she's simultaneously clearly way into most of what's happened since she started dating Adachi and also really struggling to return Adachi's affections. Interesting tension there.

No, Denpa Onna was completed. And with volume 9 announced we can assume he'll go back to a more regular schedule.

It's honestly kind of interesting/surprising how comfortable Shimamura seems with the idea of physical intimacy already, tbh. Like, compared to how nervous she was about the idea of Adachi saying she loves her back in volume 1 or 2, she's surprisingly chill about the idea of kissing here.

Yeah like even in this chapter, I can see a fairly clear path where Adachi can learn to loosen up a lot just through learning through experience that Shimamura actually likes her and isn't going to suddenly disappear and abandon her the moment Adachi takes her eyes off her.

I'm really happy about all this updates but I'm sad at the same time the closer we get to volume 8 the close we get to no more chapters ..... Any news on volume 9?

Iruma Hitoma is just so good at these kinds of low-key stories where all the appeal is in the characters. I felt it when reading AdaShima, when I read the YagaKimi Sayaka novel, and now recently while watching/reading Denpa Onna. I think he's the best author at writing 1st person perspective and letting you experience all the small changes in the characters.

Just between this and the YagaKimi spinoff, I'm really impressed at how he's written three different characters with very distinct internal voices.

I feel like one of these days ShimaMom is just going to accidentally blurt out "your girlfriend's here!" and her daughter will die of mortification.

Like these two are terrible at keeping a poker face, mom is already teasing shima, and plus they keep having relationship talks like while mom is nearby.

ShimaMom just walking past the door to see AdaShima just holding hands and smiling at each other and suddenly taking an intense interest in Adachi was fantastic

For as much as she worries, Shimamura is really good at this, huh

The thing is that if Adachi never changed and started pursuing Shimamura so relentlessly, I'm not sure how Shimamura ever becomes capable of making the first move. I mean, half the point of Shimamura's character arc is that she's surrendered so much of her agency in the pursuit of maintaining safe, neutral, empty relationships with people around her that it takes volumes and volumes of Adachi metaphorically knocking on the door to coax Shimamura into responding of her own accord.

Same, I got blindsided by Shimamura replying that she loved Adachi right away. And later she doubled down, pretty nice.

I thought for sure when Shimamura said she didn't remember the first time she said it in her sleep that that was going to be a thing we'd have to spend like a whole volume or more trying to work our way back to and then she just went and said it again and my jaw hit the floor.

Yeah, same. Like, come on, let them go on a cute non-explicitly-romantic-but-totally-romantic Christmas date.

I'd really like to see them go to the next Summer Festival and have it go better, myself. No overzealous dads trying to crash the party, no misunderstanding when Konatsu tries to ask Koyuki about their feelings.

I keep wanting to ship the dads and then feeling bad because I forgot that Koyuki's mom is still right there and has had multiple good scenes and everything.

Yeah I'm really fascinated to see how Shimamura moves forward from here now that she's had her minor epiphanies and decided to go out with Adachi. We obviously assume that she's not going to be so careful about the distance between the two of them after everything that's happened, but also people don't just suddenly transform themselves and abandon all their old habits - especially not people written by Iruma Hitoma lol

One of the things I liked is that the admittedly typical dork-Adachi move with her "confessing" while dizzy and then passing out and not remembering--a kind of typical romance trope--**actually served a purpose beyond entertainment**. It basically brute-forced a VERY stubborn Shimamura into opening a VERY closed mental door and caused her to think about all those things that she had tried so very hard for so very long to NOT think about. And it opened up the way for the kind of character development she really needed. Obviously Gon was the one who took her by the paw and lead her down the path initially but now she's willingly walking that path herself. So good for her. AND good for Adachi--since poor Adachi's character growth has been more solitary and mortifying and she still keeps getting back up and moving forward despite it.

I know I said before, but Shimamura's inner monologue after that was a true delight, some of the best stuff I've read in this series IMO. Just the meandering path she follows from surprise to trepidation to being vaguely giddy is really believable and satisfying for her.

I was a little surprised at how hard Shimamura shut that door, lol. You want proof Shimamura loves Adachi, you can look at how strong a stance she was willing to take when she was afraid of Adachi being hurt.
