Yeah, I'm also happy that Ren stopped where she did. I mean it probably would've been better for her to not try and force her at all, but she did realize she was wrong - hooray for character growth!

Also it's pretty fucked up that the brother pressured (forced?) Hime into giving him oral, jeez. That Hime went along with it was probably due to her trying to be "normal" or whatever, like she mentioned in the previous work. Glad she got out of that relationship.

Agree with all of this. I mean, I guess we COULD just chalk Ren's pushiness to being a horny teenager, but unlike her brother, she was able to control herself and understand that pressuring her girlfriend is not okay. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how their relationship progresses. Does anyone know if we're gonna get more chapters?

It's annoying to ask someone to wait a year, sure, but also, they're high school (middle school?) girls. The whole "I will wait for you" schtick is really romantic for most of them, so I can see why she agreed to wait.

This is a satirical work meant to criticize the exploitive and manipulative aspects of the idol industry, as well as Japan's general nonchalant attitude on how they treat women and girls. Since I like satire, it was hilarious for me to read, but--as satire is meant to do--there is a small voice in the back of my head also angrily yelling about how messed up Japanese society is about how they mistreat their female population.

I think the point of the story is to not make it such a big deal about labeling people. I think the message is just, "If two people are in love and want to be together, then that should be all that matters."

I really love how they didn't show the kiss at the end of Ch. 40. Like...there wasn't any reason to, you know what I mean? They confessed, they were (finally!) honest with each other and with themselves, and they're together. Even though no kiss was shown, it was one of the most tastefully done kiss scenes I've ever read in all my years of reading manga.

So, it's a sequel? I guess SU couldn't really work with how the original was panning out towards the end, so that was why she decided to pull--what I like to call--a "timeskip sequel," when the story continues from an in-story timeskip.

Well...I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited, but after seeing how the first one turned out, I'm keeping my expectations low. I want to see a few things done right this time around: more coherent writing and storytelling, more attention to the side characters, actual character development, less drama, less stupidity from the characters, and less sexual assault.

So far, it's actually really well done. The cute moments were fluffy, Mei wasn't being a mood-swinging ass, and no one tried to come between Yuzu and Mei. But I've learned to keep an eye out for anything over-the-top dramatic, so we'll see how it goes. But so far, so good.

I actually really like all this focus we're getting on the side characters. It helps get an idea of where all the characters are now and what they're up to. Plus, it's especially important we get to know Sayaka's perspective on things, considering she's the second most important character after Yuu and Touko.

Also, I LOOOOOVED Chapter 36. It was just everything teenage me could've used--a foreseeable happy future with a girlfriend/wife. It gives me hope that someday, it could happen. It's also something I never see in yuris, too. We're always shown the relationship when the girls are in high school and then that's it. But we're very rarely shown what happens in adulthood and how you can have a happy same sex relationship after high school. I love how Nakatani included something like this.

(Also, French fries are Belgian, though...Should've used potatoes gratin or something, but I guess that wouldn't really have as much punch to the joke)

Edit: Getting bai... responding to Cannibal made me realise something else, what was the whole point of the arranged marriage?? We theorised it was because her future position at the head of the academy demanded it, for various reasons we brought up at length previously, and it made perfect sense. The story itself seemed to corroborate our line of thinking, when Mei's letter linked the implied necessity of the marriage with her desire to preside over the school. But now, suddenly, it no longer matters. Am I missing something here? If she could have had both Yuzu and the academy ages ago, then what was the point of all this??? This would only make sense if she gave up on the academy, choosing Yuzu instead, but nothing of the sort was even implied.

No, you're not missing anything. It's literally just the author deciding to push that little loose end to the corner and pretend it got resolved in those textless panels we got. I feel the arranged marriage issue WAS going to be addressed at some point and was supposed to be a crucial plot point, but again, the author wanted to end the series to work on Citrus Plus.

Can people please stop saying that the ending was rushed please? Inform before you say something. Citrus will continue in a new manga called Citrus + in which you will have the ending expanded and adventures of their lives after marriege. The ending was rushed on purpose to open a path for Citrus +, so stop it already

We don't know anything about Citrus Plus so far except that it will be more focused on the sides characters, it could be before or after the marriage for all we know, so unless you have an official statement from Saburouta regarding the exact content of Citrus Plus you don't know what it's going to be about. And Citrus ending was rushed, it is undeniable, the fact that she is going to make a spin off is not an excuse, quite the contrary, botching your work on purpose just to keep some content for a spin off is not something to be proud of.

Agreed. Regardless of how Citrus Plus is going to be like, it still doesn't change the fact that the original series was so rushed at the end and resolved so quickly, i.e. showing textless panels of characters being cool with everything as opposed to creating a coherent storyline about it all.

Rushed ending, but you can tell Saburouta wanted to be done with this. Don't blame them. I'd be pretty fed up if I had to work on the same project for...what, 5 years?

I'm disappointed we didn't get the outcome that a lot of us were hoping for (i.e. Yuzu doesn't chase after Mei and instead Mei has to chase after Yuzu later, Yuzu develops more independence, Mei grows a backbone, etc.), but I'm also really relieved we're done.

I'm not going to get into details since that would take up an entire page of comments, so I'll just summarize my overall feelings for the series: it's okay. It's not well-written, the main characters don't really develop at all, conflict is always repetitive, and there are lots of cringey moments. That being said, Citrus is worth a read, and I think every yuri fan should read it at least once. The art is fantastic, the supporting cast is great, and there are lots of cute and fluffy moments.

Hopefully, SU's next work will have more coherency and will be written better.

I personally don't see anything wrong with Andrew as a character. The only problem I have is what that they even included him in the first place because he doesn't really serve that much of a purpose. I get that he's supposed to be Akko's (and the audience's) viewpoint character on how most non-magical people see the world of witches and stuff, but it was crammed in a way that just seemed careless. Plus, Akko herself is from the non-magical world. Couldn't we just...have her as our vessel to see that. Maybe encounter some Average Joes on the street or something? I think it still would have made the same impact but kept more room to develop the other characters and their relationships. Just my thoughts, though.

This was really sweet. Really soft. I'm actually glad we didn't get some plot to justify the characters having sex. Sometimes, it's just nice to see the characters do it, you know?

Looking through the comments every time a new chapter is out just makes me wonder why people bother to follow the series if they will always complain about the series not having the development they have on their heads. I mean, I have no idea what is Saburota thinking and she has thrown so many curve balls that I think is pointless to try and guess where will the story go. Like, did anyone seriously expected for Nina and Sarah to show up again?

Anyways, the chapter itself while short was far from being pointless, and personally I appreciated the insight it provided of Matsuri and Harumin's current standing regarding Yuzu's situation and furthermore, the way it actually develops their own relationship by showing the way they compliment each other.

Now I've seen people say that Harumin doesn't give a fuck about Yuzu or that she's so dense to no realize Yuzu's in pain but honestly I don't know how is possible to get to that conclusion after reading this chapter. The only explanation I can see is again, the fact that people expect the series to follow their own ideas instead of Sabu's. Harumin obviously realizes Yuzu is in a bad spot now but she deciding to not get involved unless Yuzu opens to them is a perfectly understandable course of action and one that is completely in line with Harumin's character.

Anyways, all in all it was an enjoyable chapter and is certainly makes me look forward to the next one.

Agreed. The curveballs are that--curveballs. They're meant to throw you off, and Saburouta does it so much that it's just kind of pointless to get mad when the story doesn't turn out how we think it will. I will admit, though, there are some choices that I think SU could've done differently, but again, there isn't really any real point to get angry over the choices.

As short as this chapter was, it gave some insight on how the supporting characters are feeling: Matsuri and Harumi are concerned about Yuzu, the Manager is MIA, and the Tachibana sisters don't seem to know what happened and--from how that phone call went--probably haven't spoken to Yuzu in a good while. We also see that Yuzu is still clearly uncomfortable to talk about Mei and with her now-single room, showing that Yuzu still isn't 100% over the break-up. It's almost like SU is peeling back the layers bit by bit for Yuzu and will eventually show how she's really feeling. Until then, let's just see what she has next!

Why are people still saying the manga's over? It's not. And now apparently people are saying there are only two chapters left? Where are these speculations coming from? Is there an actual source, or are people just panicking and jumping to conclusions here?

I guess they would rather have Saburo Uta introduce a new character to force another love triangle rather than see Mei and Yuzu resolving one of the main plot of the story.

Rather than introducing a new 3rd wheel or coming up with Yet Another Arranged Marriage plot, the author could simply explore the dynamics of their relationship. That doesn't mean it can't be dramatic (example from centuries ago: KareKano). The impression I have so far is that Yuzu and Mei are together out of lust and some weird co-dependency (Yuzu being the rescuer and Mei the emotionally unavailable counterpart). And not because they are 2 people who love talking to each other and doing things together, and that naturally have challenges to overcome. Like, didn't Mei even tell Harumin that she doesn't know what to talk about with Yuzu? That's a hint right there that something ain't right...So yeah they are crazy for each other, but not sure if the reasons for their attraction are healthy/good enough to justify the relationship being long-term. If this is a romance drama, Saburouta is supposed to convince us of that, but I must say I am not convinced yet.

If the 2nd arranged marriage plot was introduced in the context of them being a solid couple, reactions would have been more positive. Instead, the way it happened it's hard to not think Yuzu needs to cut her losses and date someone else she clicks with. If the manga jumps from them barely knowing how to go on dates and being shy about making out, to suddenly Mei throwing her inheritance to the wind and riding into the sunset with Yuzu with no proper development it's going to be the worst ending ever.

This is what I've been hoping for, too. But like...given what we've seen of SU's track record of constantly introducing new characters, I think a third wheel is what's going to at least jumpstart the next story arc. But I really hope we just end up with what you're suggesting--exploring Yuzu and Mei's relationship and unhealthy co-dependency on each other.
