What else could be more important than having more yuri ? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
No Nana pls, I hate this crap. I said YURI, not het vomit

I pay for YURI, not fucking subtext. I don't hand the guy at McDonald's my credit card so he can give me an Oreo McSubtext. If girls aren't doing gay things in my manga...

THEN WHAT THE FUCK IS MY MONEY GOOD FOR?!

That's the french rap I'm crazy about. (Hugo TSR is in my opinion one of the best rapper.)

@Utoptia That's a pretty sick beat. Great flow, good substance, very consistent, nice pace. Color me impressed.

Edit: An alien invasion would go well with this song. Just imagine, giant spaceships blasting buildings to the beat of the song and aliens rocking out to the chorus (lol).

@Rina I was thinking more like this for an alien invasion: Rad British EDM

What video did you try ? And my bad, didn't know SCH's video were blocked abroad. Or it's only Anarchie ? The clip's probably too "satanist" for amercian's puritanism.

Same title, just some fucker who put a pop-up like 10 secs in.

ALSO: French rap, that's a first. Not a fan of that specific song. Too reminiscent of the stuff I hear blasting out of cars in east Indianapolis.

Neat. I've never actually bought any of his music stuff physically, although I have a poster from his store in my room. I did, however, buy many of his albums on iTunes several years ago. I once got a post retweeted by him (or at least his Twitter account).

@ Anon I never said I didn't like kinky cakes. Frankly I'm indifferent. Also, I think that's bullshit there's no yuri cake! What has the world come to?! I LOVE JAMIROQUAI! They're like my favorite band or artist ever, along with Queen, Andrew WK, Weird Al Yankovic, and The Prodigy.

I didn't imply that I hated the social justice or feminist movement. I'm all for equal treatment, but with equal treatment comes tolerance and acceptance. You have to live with others regardless of your feelings, come to terms that people will differ from you and know that there are differences with everybody, whether you like it or not. I think, in general, it goes both ways. To truly be equal, you have to experience both good and bad in all regards. But it can't be forced, which is why I tend to avoid the whole activist scene in general. I appreciate your input and I am glad you are passionate about what you believe in. Just know my intent was directly aimed towards the miserable situation the whole cast and crew went through in the production of Blue is the Warmest Color. Nobody was happy doing all that fighting and drama, regardless of who's "right" or "wrong".

Serious shtuff aside, here's some videos I made:

Given it's Tommy Wiseau, I expect he's trading on the cult status of the film. Not to mention, there are guaranteed to be orders of magnitude more copies made of a classic like Gone With the Wind, so the per-unit profit can be reduced quite a bit and still bring in a healthy return. Blu-Rays of The Room would be produced on a much more narrow margin.

I would imagine other niche films without the benefit of a big distribution company behind them would have similar pricing.

I know that smarty pants :P. I just think it's a bit strange how society has come to determine value. In a practical world, movies like that would be cheap and others of higher quality would cost more. That's all.

I just said that it wasn't about value of the film as an artistic product, iffy as that concept is in the case of The Room, but about the cost of manufacturing, promoting, and shipping the physical Blu-Ray units. The fact that Gone With the Wind or Casablanca is much cheaper is a sign of its success, in that they can be carried by a bigger distribution company with stronger supply chains, and still move a lot more units than Tommy Wiseau trying to do the same out of his basement with a movie with niche appeal at best.

tl;dr Cost != value

I guess I didn't get it. Thanks for the explanation, I see what you mean now.

Oh hi, Mark.

Edit: I want to buy the Room on Blu-Ray but not for $22 like Amazon is selling it for.

I know right! That is so ridiculous that the creators of the movie think it's worth that much. I can buy Gone with the Wind NEW on Blu-Ray for half of that. It's a crazy world we're living in.

And as surprising as it sounds, La vie d'adèle (known abroad as Blue Is the Warmest Colour). Seems like everyone is fond of this movie, but for some reason I couldn't overcome even the first hour. I tried to watch several times, but I just keep hating it no matter how hard I try lol. (like I hate everything from this film-maker.).

Funny, I avoided the film due to the negative press relating to the reception from the LGBTQ community and the length of the movie. Critics I tend to agree with said it was drawn-out and douchey. With your input, I now feel justified in not wanting to watch the film. The press relating to those involved is a nightmare as well. While I tend to shy away from feminists and social justice warriors, it seems like everybody (director included) was really unpleasant and vitriolic regarding the whole ordeal. What sort of good could come out of such a toxic set of circumstances? Regardless, whether or not there was some sort of "anti-feminist" agenda or work-code violations, a movie should still be judged on its merits, as little there might appear to be. Still not seeing it, though.

It seems like I'm gone for 1 second and immediately this thread becomes a facility for concentrated pastry-related porn!

@ Anon I think the word you meant to say is unsocial. Anti-social is more like this guy:

My favorite color is green, I too do not have a girlfriend (nor have I ever), and I do just about the same stuff you guys do in your free time.

ALSO: Categorize me in the 30-40%. I get mocked quite a lot for my preference towards yuri manga and lesbian fiction in general. It's become more of an obsession or an affinity (probably due to my nature and my Autism Spectrum Disorder) than anything else. People can't seem to realize that not all yuri is porn! No one judges a girl for reading 50 Shades of Grey or other smutty het stories, but the moment I'm caught reading Octave or Girl Friends... PERV ALERT, PERV ALERT!

Surely you all must understand my troubles.

Looks like I've caught up. Anywho, anybody care to discuss their least favorite movie? We've had many discussions over our favorites, but I have not seen many that have divulged their unfavorable views on certain movies. My least favorite movie is probably Birdman. There's also this movie I saw called Tru Love that was terribly annoying and contrived. Teen Witch is a bad movie but it is laughably enjoyable and so is The Room.

Your move...

edit : forgot to mention Schindler's list and Carol. Include them as well

@ Utoptia
I bought Carol like the day it came out on DVD. I feel like it should've come home with at least one Oscar. Mad Max stole like half the awards anyway, so it'd only be fair. Plus, ever since Birdman won best picture, I've thought the Academy is the worst it's ever been. That movie is douchey pretentious bullshit.

My username on Steam is ♀MattoMaindo♀. One of my previous names is ButtPirate because my brother's a fuck-with and changed my name when I wasn't looking. That's about all the embarassing names I got. My youtube username used to be everysnakesdream22, but I wouldn't say that's embarrassing. I was just a stupid kid with a bad taste in names. My Minecraft account and Runescape account is Warthogkill1. I'm not even that big of a fan of Halo, so I have no idea why I chose that.

I was being like half-sarcastic. I actually subjected myself to it so much I kind of unironically love it now. But it's still a bad song. Also, notice how one of the girls in the band shares one half of my internet pseudonym. It was originally a 3 part Romanji translation of "Matto Master Mind" MattoMasutaMaindo. My twitter is @MattMasterMind and I thought I'd go all Japanese and spice it up. But Mastermind was something totally different when I looked it up as one word, so I made it two to get the "Masuta Maindo" part. But then it became too long for certain websites so I shrunk it to MattoMaindo. That's the story of my silly username. Anyone else want to share?

@Anon don't have one.. I gueeeeeess I really like Jin Takemiya's characters, they're just.. really different.

Takemiya characters have a voice to them. They have a very distinct personality, and you can tell that Takemiya infuses a lot of her own characteristics or ideals in a way that makes her writing stand out. Notice how like nearly all of her characters have some sort of explanation or philosophy on their sexuality, but not in a way that makes it that big of a deal. They're usually confident, proactive, and just happen to feel one way or the other. They can bigoted, bull-headed, arrogant, insecure, rash, or hot-headed, but most of all they just feel relatable on a human level. She's not afraid of "misrepresenting" a demographic. She gets that people are people. They can be assholes, sweethearts, douchebags, lovely individuals, or loathable regardless of their preferences. It's the same reason why characters like Ripley from Alien, Sarah Connor from Terminator are fucking amazing, and characters like Alice from Resident Evil or any of the characters in the new Ghostbusters fall flat. There's a certain set of rules you heed to with a character you create, a universal law, a flexible yet mostly stagnant set of morals, opinions, ideals, beliefs, and traits. Things like disaster, love, triumph, loss, and so many other factors can change things. But ultimately there has to be a personality at the core. Whether dynamic, 3-dimensional, 2-demensional, or whatever, a character (male or female, black or white, old or young, etc.) has to be consistent to the world at hand set in motion by the creator. That is what I feel Takemiya (among many others) can do that other yuri mangakas cannot.

tl;dr Takemiya Jin is a good character writer.

It's the same reason why Bebop (one of my favorite animes, along with Champloo) was poorly received in Japan yet sold great here.

Wait, really? Didn't know those 2 didn't do well in Japan. That's pretty ridiculous.
Definitely agree on them being some of the best anime out there, they're not only 2 of my favorites, they are my 2 favorite animes.

Yeah, especially Bebop. It got canceled on its first run and only initially made it to 12 episodes in 1998. It got picked up by another station though like nearly a year later in 99. With the rise of anime's popularity with Toonami and Adult Swim, and the fixation later on space westerns such as Firefly, it's the main reason why Cowboy Bebop has had a lot of staying power.

Morinaga's work (Girl Friends aside) leave me totally indifferent so I don't care at all.
Agree on the point that we need at least ONE good yuri anime. Girl friends has the foundation to be a good anime, tho I'd like to see an Octave, Hanjuku joshi or even a Gokujou drop adaptation too.

In terms of anime art, my favourite is Shinichiro Watanabe.

Dude, Octave is up there among my favorites, so I totally agree with you there. I'd think it could work if the Japanese market weren't a bunch of lightweights when it comes to really deep topics and plotlines. It's the same reason why Bebop (one of my favorite animes, along with Champloo) was poorly received in Japan yet sold great here. I still need to see Sakamichi. I plan on renting it once I finish another series I'm currently on.

Oh, and I absolutely agree on Hellsing Ultimate. Only disappointing thing is that there's no cool intro with that catchy theme like in the original. I also think some of the writing and performances for the dub in Ultimate are pretty rad. It's almost like they were inspired by some of the earlier Hellsing Abridged episodes, because some of the later jokes in the series could not have been there originally. Sir Integra's voice actress (Victoria Harwood) was so perfect for the role. Then I found out she was in DearS. Bit of a strange transition betwixt the two.

I've always been impressed by the oneshot Purgatorial Queen and its art style. It's not the richest in detail, but it's a really cool blend of like Hellsing style mixed with FMA. I think if it was an ova that it could blow my mind in terms of visuals. I'm not much into the action or adventure genre, so I don't really have a preference on stuff like Berserk or Fist of the North Star or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. But I do love stuff like Hellsing and Trigun.

On a different note, is anybody excited for Hana and Hina Afterschool getting a Western publication? It's a bit of late news, but I just found out about it. I'm a bit hesitant to get it right away due to the possibility of an omnibus or two and the fact that it's an ongoing series that could taper off in quality like Gakuen Police. Either way, I'm pumped I get another excuse to support Morinaga Milk. I'm still hoping one of these days we get a Girl Friends anime or even a TV drama. Fingers crossed.
