I reread the first two volumes since they recently came out in France. Like Lady Freiya earlier in this thread, I mostly bought them to inflate the numbers and repair the criminal lack of yuri in a country that legalized same-sex marriage three years ago.

And I somewhat have a better appreciation for them than on my first reading… I guess? Maybe it's because of the tl, or the fact nothing beats real paper volumes. Still, while I find the series relatively okay, I can't help but think it got popular for all the wrong reasons − actually, I seriously thought Saburouta was a guy, at first.

On one hand I kinda wish the main romance was between Yuzu and Harumin, as I love both of them to bits, but on the other hand they'd probably not work as well as a romantic couple… They feel more like buddies who are on the same wavelength, just not "that" wavelength.

Still, no matter how much hidden depths Mei may or may not have, I just can't manage to like her. Everything she does or says only irritates me. And I can't figure out how Yuzu fell in love withher so quickly in the first place. Or how she fell for her at all. Her attraction looks more like lust than anything else to me, honestly. To the point I'm quite amazed they still haven't gone 3rd base yet.

Of course I'm not bothered by the fact that physical attraction and lustful desire are acknowledged as a part of love, and especially teenage love, but rather that it seems to be the sole factor in the equation here − at least before their bond deepens somewhat. Yuzu falls for Mei because she's hot and did a couple of lewd things to her, basically.

…Oh, and Matsuri is horrible, and that's all I have to say. >.>

But yeah, going all the way back to chapter 1, Yurine fell for Ayaka's smile first… Since she's probably never felt so close to someone before, she wanna be literally as close to her as possible. There's almost a sort of possession/domination game going on on her side.

…Okay, I think I'll add them to the corresponding chaps later. But it's been a while since the last Little Theater in the mag version (chapter 21 didn't have one either), so chances are they'll be solely in the volumes from now on.

I'll also upload the tank versions of chapter 7 and 17, as well as the bonus chapters of volume 2 and 3, while I'm at it. It'll be quick to do. And after that, hopefully we'll all be up to date before chapter 22 comes out!

More seriously, Canno said in their interview with Nakatani that they deliberately wouldn't introduce any male character in AnoKiss. There's one doujin they made a couple of years ago with a male character in it, and it almost felt weird. Like "What? A MAN in a Canno story?! ò.Ô"

I personally really don't mind the presence of many yuri couples, as long as the author keeps the character dynamics diverse enough, which they do well so far. Maybe I would mind if it was a more "realistic" series, but from the start AnoKiss feels like it takes place in its own, semi-parallel world. It has that kind of ethereal atmosphere to it.

I wonder if Canno will further the connexion between the two characters arcs though. Maybe Sawa will remember something while listening to Ayaka's story…

I think it's pretty well done actually. There's a fine balance between the introduction of the new couple and leading to some focus on the main one. Kinda like chapter 12, but with a more "outside" look this time.

I like how all the couples in this series seem to have a "hot" one (Ayaka, Moe, Izumi, Yukina, Sawa) and a "cool" one (Yurine, Mizuki, Chiharu, Towako, Itsuki), yet they all play this dynamic in their own specific way.

Though I'm starting to wonder if the hot one isn't actually Itsuki in this case…

Regarding the "disappearance"… Itsuki's theory is probably not far off. Yurine could have said "hey, let's skip together, it'll feel like we're eloping!"

I know right? =3 We really need more scenes with these two. They may take shots at each other all the time, but Ayaka really does care about her cousin's relationship.

Now imagine chapter 20 with Mizuki in t-shirt and jeans… She's lucky to have Moe AND Ayaka with her.

The volume 4 omake is already on Batoto.

Also, I don't know who writes the series' summaries, but the one for this series should really be rewritten. It's accurate for the first 2 chapters, but for the series as a whole it's awfully misleading − and the school's name is wrong too. >.>

Finalfuckingly, the chapter is done! XD It should be out tomorrow or next week.

In volume 2, the flashback of Ayaka and Yuri playing pingpong in chapter 7 was replaced by Chiharu and Maya (her senpai)'s meeting, and there's an omake making their feelings less ambiguous.

In volume 3 there aren't any notable changes, but there's an adorable bonus chapter with Towako and Yukina.

In volume 4 there's the changes in chapter 17, plus an omake with Ayaka and Yurine at the summer festival.

Also, there are additional Little Theaters for chapters that didn't have one in the mag version. \o/

About chap 17... the changes make the chapter more "intense", I guess? They elaborate a bit more on Mizuki and Moe's state of mind. But Canno removed the panel where Moe bribes Yurine with Ayaka photos, and that's bad. =[
