I'm sorry to bother, but there's a oneshot I have had stuck in my head but can't for the love of God remember it's name. The story's premise is that, when young, two girls were lovers, one of them seems to have either autism or a similar mental disorder. The parents of said girl try to have her marry as to try to secure her future, and the the other girl didn't know what she could do at the time and let her go, only to find her as adult at the start of the oneshot.

This, mayhaps?

I enjoyed this. Really liked the artstyle too.

The big drawback of those early games though was so little yuri potential. Not enough female characters spending any kind of quality time with each other to base convincing 'ships off. So great for the fujoshi, especially FF7 with its "one bed short" and all, but not so much to work with for us.

Battle system drives me crazy, constant encounter rate, simple and easy for the most part, the most repetitive thing in any game ever.

I don't think that's really an exclusivity to 6 at all. In fact, I think all the FFs up to 9 have that, with the worst offender probably being FF1.

I don't "write it off" as much as I just don't think it's the brilliant masterpiece everyone and their mother seem to believe it is. While not the worst game in the series (from the ones I played at least), it definitely isn't the best one even among the PSX era.

My favorite is 9. To put in slightly different words than Nezchan's, 9 is a love letter to the series, it has pretty much everything that made the series good. You can't go wrong with 4-6 either (gameplay-wise, the most interesting is probably 5, tho).

Fujin's a pretty minor character in FF8 tho.

I hated SO MUCH of FF8, holy crap. But Fujin was one of the bright spots.

That said, I think 8 was actually decent, if you can get past Squall's angst. Gameplay was good too. The one I couldn't even start was FF10... The series went downhill after FF9 :v
