Oh-oh...I just found out about Kodama's new work. This one doesn't seem nearly as angsty as NTR or the other ones. Either way, I'll be keeping an eye to it. Kinda gives me Miss Kobayashi vibes

37: Yes, move on. Good. Mend.

Look. To me, Citrus is (or has become) a major factor in the future of the genre. And not just Yuri but Yaoi and everything that comes of these genres. Honestly I can see Yuri and Yaoi fading to just the hardcore fans one of two ways. Either the everything-will-be-a-happy-ending concept will cause the interest for their growth to dwindle with the lack of imagination available to the audience. Or the genres will become folded into the Romance genre as a norm. I hope for the latter. Seriously, bringing these genres into the mainstream was an amazing awakening for the world, but it needs to be acceptable to put GL, BL, and BGL all together in the Romance genre on a equal footing. If that can't be accomplished then I don't see a real future for any of this. Forget Yuri and Yaoi, it leaves the audience with expectations. Let the expectation just be Romance. Let people discover the chemistry of your characters on their own. Don't tell them it will be this, illustrate it.

I don't really think Citrus is as important as to hold yuri's future. It's just that it's the most popular one that also got an anime adaptation. Also very good artstyle. It started out great but after a while it kinda flopped. But it was already popular enough by the time it started getting repetitive.

For the past year we are really lacking a good Yuri series. Two years ago we had plenty, so for now I'll think it's just happens to be one of the bad times.

Lol that's some advanced psychology analysis, I can't really follow.

Also I'm not saying a character falling in love should be with someone with only good characteristics. Of course the bad ones make the relationship way more interesting. And I'm fan of these type of characters my self. But in Mei's situation, that's not the case imo. She is just too stiff and rarely shows any emotion.
And the fact that this is a manga doesn't excuse it for not making sense, because there are plenty of mangas that have characters who feel real and interesting.
I'm not saying Citrus is that bad, nor Mei. But to me she belongs in the same category of mcs that the girl likes because the author said so. It makes Yuzu look like a doormat in some cases.
Also the latest chapter was a bit let down. Nothing happened and there was a two month gap between the chapters. Im not trying to flame, but i think the author could have come up with something better than this. Seems like the problem will externally get solved somehow again.

I could say that some months before chapter 35 (cause there had been 8 months between chapter 35 and 36), Mei was in full molesting mode too ... so. And Mei has been very childish too in her way to deal with Yuzu... so no, i don't see any difference of love. You clearly put Mei above Yuzu here, personally, i don't. They are on equal grounds.

I am not putting Mei above Yuzu...all I'm saying is that Mei seems to love Yuzu for non-obsessive reasons, mostly because it's very hard to not love Yuzu. Like the girl is full of good qualities that are made very clear from the beginning and pointed out by other characters, anyone would fall in love with her. But the reverse is never shown to be true, like what does Mei have going for her other than being hot and excessively dutiful? The story never tells us, so it's better to assume she doesn't have anything else going. Because Harumin for example, in contrast, is sure shown as full of good qualities and she isn't even a protagonist.

Hence the question of why Yuzu loves Mei in the first place. If it's not for her qualities, then what is it for? As what AozKtM wrote in a previous post, she is likely just obsessed ("monomania") lol Being obsessed is not a bad thing if the other person likes that you are obsessed about them.

Lol I read Citrus for 4 years and I'm still wondering this. Mei can be slightly thoughtful at best, while she can be pretty cold and inconsiderate at her worst. I just don't think Saburuta thought about this aspect very well tbh, and I always found Harumin a better match for Yuzu.

Anyway, if we really want to justify this, then we got keep in mind Yuzu is a 16 yo. At this age, people will fall for someone easier, if they're just attracted to them. I think Mei was Yuzu's first girl crush and she was the one who awoke her gay side. So first she got the hots for her.
Then Yuzu is naturally a "fixer" and kind hearted. This combined with her being young makes her attracted to people she wants to save. Mei was effed up, and that was constantly pushing Yuzu to think about how she can help her and was feeling sympathy for her. Also she knows Mei's background and that makes her excuse Mei's bad behavior. She belongs to the group of women who fall for "the bad guys" because they try to help them. I'm not saying Mei is a bad guy, but sometimes she definitely acts like one.

Something like Yuzu going crazy and barging in the wedding will happen. I'd be more sad if it wasn't so certain that there will be a happy ending. I highly doubt Mei will actually marry this guy

I was just trying to say that Seju and her relationship to Sumin was the plot twist.

Well most people here immediately thought that when they read about a supposed plot twist. But the plot twist was that there wasn't a plot twist lol. Or maybe the most unexpected twist was that Nami was in love with Sumin, not Seju.
Admittedly, to me Sungji's character wasn't developed properly. She fell into the classic mc trap, where it is expected that she is automatically developed because she is nice and wins Sumin.
Still not strong enough evidence that the ending changed. Because there were lots of signs of Sungji winning right from the start.

What I think is that Team Gaji planned Sungji and Sumin ending from the start, but when started developing Seju, they liked her more than Sungji. But they knew they couldn't/shouldn't change the end, because fans would get mad.

Es0teric Not sure what you're trying to say about the plot twist, but from the wdtfs description you've mentioned, it becomes clear that Sungji is the main character. Like you said, Seju is not even mentioned.

Also come on. Can we really, really be sure of what an animated characters' facial expressions really mean? Drawing is quite limiting comparing it to a real person. And even irl, sometimes people's expressions don't always match their emotions for various of reasons. Anyway, I don't disagree that Sumin was making love to Seju. But saying she only wanted to just f Sungji is a bit of unfair. And this is where the human factor that I was mentioning comes at play. If you are biased towards Seju or Sungji, you will sometimes only chose to see the things in favor of the particular character. This is why digging so deep for clues gets bad. Because you get lost into the details that not even the author put so much thought to, and you lose the bigger picture. Also you probably are seeing only the clues that support your argument.

Team Gaji said they came up with Seju's character later, after they had already thought of Sumin and Sungji.
I'm not saying it's impossible that they actually did change the ending, just that even when i picked wdtfs up two years ago, before even arc 2, to me it was clear there would be a TeamBlonde ending.
Despite that, I do believe they probably like Seju better

The problem with seeing this story like Dt Monk, is that it is not a reality. If this was happening in real life, then a more pragmatic and clue focused approach would be better.
But, when talking about a story, we should really take into consideration the fact that it was a human's imagination, and humans don't always convey what they want to tell 100% accurately. There are always going to be plot holes, unlike real life where everything does connect.

From a Sungji pov, the stuffed fox was introduced very early. This was a hint about Sungji being the fox, the animal that is connected with a very important character. And we see the stuffed fox in the end again.
So Sungji definitely had end game signs right from the beginning.
Sumin looking lovingly at Seju, we know she still had feelings for her. But that isnt a clue about who she would end up with.

Well the wrong in this thinking to begin with, is to think that Team Gaji is always perfect, or like you said they created a "masterpiece".
I just think they were in rush to finish this and give the popular ending, that they neglected some details. Plot holes happen, and no writer no matter how good, they are not immune to it. But this doesn't necessarily mean a sudden change of ending.

As for Sejus father requesting Sumin to leave with Seju and then this plot point not being addressed, we can easily assume that it wasn't as important in the end, because there was no mention of it.
We can see that Sumin stays in Korea with Sungji, so this part of the story is indirectly being addressed. Sumin rejects the offer and stays with Sungji. No need for further development for it, as if they developed it more, it would drift the attention away from the ending couple.

What we like, doesn't make it the majority. Sungji is the typical nice character, and sometimes this is all what people need from a character to be a "good protagonist". I don't personally agree, but that doesn't make my opinion better than theirs. A lot of Teamblonde fans always considered Seju an unhealthy character and maybe a bitch. So to them, the ending makes perfect sense. The good girl wins in the end.

The AnR author (her name is Kuga or something, I forget ) is married to a man and has a daughter. So I highly doubt it is the author lol.

I wouldn't think they were forced to change the ending. Right from the beginning, to me it was clear that this was supposed to be a Sumin and Sungji ending. I mean, if you see how Sungji is introduced in the first chapters it gives off the vibe of endgame.

I just personally think they loved Seju more than they planned to. And they grew together with her character, but their plan from the beginning was a Sungji ending.
They probably started writing Seju, thinking they wanted to make a more fleshed out antagonist than your typical romance bad guy. They know what makes a good character after all.

If they did plan a Seju ending, I think they'd have to focus more on Sungji throughout the manhwa. Because a Seju ending with this Sungji development would make Sungji's character a bit of...a filler? Because they didn't focus much on showing why Sungji is the one for Sumin. It just seemed like she was just in the right place at the right time.
Also the popular ship was already teamblonde. But I do believe they fell in love with Seju a bit more than the main couple.

I'm not sure if Lezhin is so involved into how they want a story to end. To me it was more of the author's decision, also choosing the popular ship.

Seju's character hits too close to home with her whole depression element. And I've read that the artist was suffering from depression, so it makes me think that this character was also their personal emotional outlet.

Meh, the more i read these extras, I'm getting even more convinced that Team Gaji, deep down, was a Teampink shipper.
They refuse to let it go and give Seju a new love interest. Instead of drawing Seju with that new dark skinned girl, surprise(!) we get a highschool Seju x Sumin. I'm still liking these moments, and Team Gaji has made me delusional-read their story. Which means, I can't help but read it, but when I do, I can only read this by trying to ignore the facts and what future holds for them. It's like blissful oblivion, but deep down knowing it's fake.

Also in the last chapter it doesn't really explain how Sumin went back to Hello Studio. Kinda feels like they left an open to the ending of Seju going back there again and creating the same love triangle.
Just admit it Team Gaji, you can't let this go lol.
But honestly that's too bad. Seju and Sumin had such a great relationship development. It would be so awesome if they actually ended up together.
And it's even more sad how Sumin was the reason why Seju didn't leave from Korea. If she had let her go back then, Seju might have found a girl who would try to work things through instead of staying angry and moving on only when someone better came.

Hmm I wouldn't say tsundere would be good for Seju, because it kinda sounds not mature enough for her.
I'd say someone like the assasin would be a good match imo. Gotta have some dark side to her too, not too innocent

Afterall,I conclude that wdtfs is just a simple romance story, a cliche standard korean drama..... that has charming side character (antagonist) who steal the spotlight. so 7.5 / 10

Lol I was thinking of rating wdtfs too. Mine would be 7/10.
The characters were good and consistent enough, as well as the plot flow was natural and not some forced typical drama, but it lost points from the main couple's development.

To me it was clear right from the beginning that Sungji was the one that Sumin would end up with. If they changed something, it was Seju's importance throughout the story, to extend it more.

Lolllll, I remember you are one of a few people here who has hoped for Seju to move on with someone else,. What happened? XDDDDDD

But no, even with this chap, Seju is still the Seju you know, the one who is sad, depressed( more so now, tbh) and loves Sumin with all her heart, lollll, the new character is not someone you could ship her with right now, so dont worry xDDDDD

I was hoping Seju to move on by herself though lol, since I knew she wouldn't end up with Sumin. I wouldn't like it if she dated another girl though because of how much she was attached to Sumin, but this has to happen at some point I guess.

No, the girl appearing there is for the sake of the spin off xDDDD

Seju's ending actually was in chap 91 when she left

Actually, anything that happens in this chap is not really important to the plot. Its a bonus and some beginning scenes for Seju's spin off, its not for reviving Seju's ending.

Good. I liked the way she left and I'd prefer to remember her that way. Not in a mood to ship her with anyone else now tbh lol

Exactly.. that's why, I don't believe she will be there just for the sake of being there.

Well yeah. The time of her appearance is not coincidental at all. Of course she has to be someone important.
The thing is, I really don't know if I will care about her anyway. Because all these 93 chapters have shown that it is impossible for Seju to love someone like she did with Sumin. The girl appearing right in the end just seems like a conveniently put character for the shake of Seju not having a 100% bad ending.

To me it feels like seju will never love another woman like she did with Sumin. I'm pretty confident about that, no matter her new partner(s)

Believe me, that will be the main focus of the Seju-centered story without even Sumin appearing xDDDDDD.

wdtfs is about a love triangle physically but I have feelings this story is also a love triangle but emotionally. This is why it will be more complicated to express this part than wdtfs and its interesting this way. The love triangle is there but not actually there xDDDDDD.

Lol it definitely seems like TG themselves are unable to let the Sumin x Seju thing go.
And there's a red flag already with Sumin and Sungji staying in Hello Studio. Like why....
There's a whole new arc that could be made between Seju with her new gf and Sumin watching them...

I agree. She will always love her and there will never be another sumin. She will always be special.

And it happens in real life. Lol

It's just really sad, you know. And this is what made their relationship very special

This sounds a way better option. At least Seju remains consistent to her character.
The new girl's design though does seem like a potential love interest to me.
