Although i almost choked when i see Sayaka saying "Senpai" when her Senpai appeared since the translation don't use honorifics at all to begin with.

And that's why I tend to keep "senpai" in my translations. Because unlike "-san" or "-kun", senpai is not just a particle but an independent word that can be used alone.

The problem with the particles is that they don’t usually matter until they do, but then (as in this series) they really do.

I’ve been watching K-dramas for a long time, and while I still only recognize a handful of Korean words and phrases, I can tell when people are shifting their speech from one level of formality to another, and sometimes that can be one of the most powerful indicators of a relationship dynamic.

Of course, a serial translator can’t know that in the future episode an honorific (plus or minus) is going to be significant, so if you haven’t been using them all along, you have no option of dropping or changing them.

As I’ve said before, there are so many other inescapable social and cultural differences in manga that remind me that a text is not created in my home idiom that I’d (personally) prefer that in most honorifics stay in.

that reminds me of the tsubasa chronicles spanish dub where they had to come up with a surname for syaoran to show how sakura losing her memories of syaoran made them drift apart (on the original they didn´t have surnames and they show how close they were at the begining through the non use of honorifics)

people getting impatient for the reveal but if this was a sitcom it would be years and years before the Sheltered Girl learns the truth... and once she did the ratings would bottom out

not really, whispering you a love song handle it pretty well and is still running strong a good story doesn´t need gimicks to keep people interested

yeah this is getting real dumb it was fine, even funny for a few chapter but at this point is just really dumb and unnecessary you can´t maintain people s interest with a cheap gimmick

It’s interesting to me how some readers seem to attribute some behavior to the characters themselves, and some to authorial manipulation, as if Tazune could “really” be a nice guy and a good match for Midori if the interfering author just didn’t force him into behaving badly for plot purposes.

The guy has been portrayed as superficially normal to people in the story but to readers obviously a king-hell dick from the first time we saw him, and we were given just enough glimpses of non-abusive behavior to justify (to some extent) why Midori was attracted to him in the first place.

mmm no quite, im not saying that tazune wasn´t suposed to be like that from the begining or that he acted out of character in order to advance the plot, as you mentioned the signs were there, what im triying to say is that after the first chapter it was nearly impossible for maki to end up with midori if the author didn´t use the abusive husband trope

It's absolutely not her fault at all. Victims are just often vulnerable people who predatory ones find easy to hold onto, and Midori 150% falls into this category.

sorry, you´re 100% right my previous post was before reading chapter 6, before reading the last chapter i see tanzuke as an asshole but not to the point of actually hitting her wife, sorry if came up as insensible that wasn´t my inention at all

is obiously not midoris fault what happened to her so far , and i´d be nice if she could break out of her current situacion but her relationship with maki is also not healthy(not for maki at least).
if tazune wasn´t such an asshole i highly doubt she would choose maki, this is not like creascent moon and doughnuts where the MC struggles to be "normal" and feels uncorfotable at the idea of being in relationship with a men, midori and tazune actually have some kind of chemistry at first, If the plot didn´t demand tazune to be an asshole for the sake of yuri they could actually be cute couple, right now midori has two options live a shitty life with a shitty person or the yuri route that´s it (not much of a choice tbh).

And lets face it the way midori has treated maki so far is actually pretty cruel,
she didn´t give a fuck about maki back then,
why midori never looked for maki all these years? why she wants her back at her life right now?. is because she really loves her? or is just because her life is a complete mess and maki is the only person in her life that is not a piece of shit and shows some human decency
i read a post on this thread that couldn´t be more truth
midori deserves to be happy but not with maki

at first i tought that todo no tsumari ucho ten had a weird pace, at times it felt like it was going way to fast and sometimes there was just way too much comedy to properly enjoy the story, but a while ago i re-read the whole manga and i think most of m issues with the manga came from how apart the releases were, after re-reading it i think todo no tsumari ucho ten was actually pretty good
i think is too early to tell if this reboot is going to be as comedy focus as todo no tsumari or more center on the romance but i can really feel arata iri style on it

As your post suggests, however, one may indeed wonder why I bother responding on this forum.

indeed, i realize a long time ago that most of the people here use their head canon instead of the actual manga to post

i hope this ends with Midori staying with her abusive husband and child while maki keeps hanging with her while suffering like the cuck she is

when i finished chapter 13 t thought the manga was fine a bit rushed but an ok manga with great characters, but after reading the extras i can say for sure that comprehensive tovarisch is masterpiece a 10/10

I'm the only one to find the path of the manga quite odd ? Yuu's sisters appear only in the chapter before the last one. Kana's story is not really well developped, she is just mad at everyone most of the time. And the sidestories of the Schooges are so all over the place that i find quite hard tocare about it.

probably not i think most of us are aware of the weakness of the manga but we choose to ignore them becuase arata iri style is just so god damn funny, cute and unique and come on man there´s no way you don´t love kanna she´s just the best, quoting miyako on the break time part 9 "there´s never a dull day with kanna around"

That's why I am not a shipper.

fair enough there´s two types of people in this world the people who ship and the people who doesn´t and that´s fine

My main problem with the Nibutani/Dekkomori pairing is, and I don't care whether you want to ignore this, that the source material still matters. If they ever finished the story, the conclusion would have to be mostly the same to the novels. There is simply no way they would ever give Nibutani an openly gay ending. Therefore it can never go beyond subtext or bait.

that´d be true if we were talking about canon character from the novel like kumiko and reina from euphonium, people knew that there was no way that they´d end up together, because in the novel kumiko ends up with tsukamoto, but it´s a different case with dekomori she was tacked on the story, there´s no source material for her, writters don´t have a storyline to follow, they can writte anything they want. If at the end of the novel nibutani were to find a boyfriend like kumiko that´d be a different story because in that case the writtes have to follow the novel, but i don´t think that´s the case so at this specific case the source material doesn´t really matter

I mean we all know that no there´s no way nibutani and dekomori end up together(mostly because at this point the franchise is over) but that has nothing to do with the source material, like @TheLostLight already said that just how kyoani works being maid dragon the only exception. That being said the anime does have strong subtext that´s a fact, there´s strong evidence that nibutani and dekomori may or may not be in love, but come on dude we work with less than that nico and maki barely talk at the anime the subtext between yui and azu-nyan is barely noticeable if you don´t use your yuri goggles. If your logic is "if is not on the source material fuck it " you´re pretty much skipping 30% of this site content
