Me after reading this: laughing and crying at the same time. Well, it's a good story as far as giving myself a hard kick in the gut is concerned. I mean, there's no doubt the intent was to give the reader a tough time (or fucking trauma), and it delivered well.

Probably been posted here before, sorry in advance. BUT:
do you know any Yuri story that is also 'noir', something like Sin City or Tarantino-esque? Thanks :)

Sorry to be a bit late to the party here. The music Aria plays in Ch. 5 is in fact the oldest piece of music known to survive with complete words and music, the Epitaph of Seikilos, nearly 2000 years old. The text, copied below, is particularly relevant. It's a pretty pithy encapsulation of a vampire's outlook on relationships with humans:

Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
μηδὲν ὅλως σὺ λυποῦ
πρὸς ὀλίγον ἔστι[2] τὸ ζῆν
τὸ τέλος ὁ χρόνος ἀπαιτεῖ

Wikipedia's loose English translation:

Bittersweet. Now methinks this story will go down with the audience in buckets of tears. For some reason, it'll be just like Doraemon. Aria's wise to have herself killed by someone who can. Watching everyone you knew and loved die before your eyes as you yourself glide easily through millenia can be extremely painful.

I dunno. While I can see Natsuki being lesbian, I can't really see Sayaka and Natsuki dating each other. :/

LOL Sayaka seems high maintenance type and Natsuki's just down to earth. Their personalities might clash and Sayaka might try to avoid conflicts or dramas along with it. Still, when I think about it, they can actually date each other if the right circumstances happen i.e say, they happen to attend Yuu's birthday party and they have a talk and a little bit of quick-witted exchange, and there's that, a beginning of an unexpected romcom. Or dramedy or whatever.

Natsuki seems to be a fun and levelheaded gal. She'll bring enough sunshine to Sayaka's rainy parade.

1. Foreshadowing the end of Sayaka's suffering. Funny that outside canon, in the fanfics, some guys started shipping her with Natsuki. Others, her with Miyako (shameless!). They also built Sayaka x Koyomi ship, which only sails in funny Tumblr posts.
   Hope rests in the LNs maybe it's fine.

2. I wonder how Yuu and Sayaka forged friendship after high school? I'm imagining a bit of the final chapter exploring this, but just a tiny bit. Yep, that Koyomi x Renma-sensei looks delish too.

From what we know, Kaoru was already chasing after Reiichi back in her high-school days. He caved in at some point, for reasons we have yet to know about, but he didn't particularly like her.

1. Hmm, thinking about it, I realize why girls like Risako and Kaoru revolve around a guy like Reiichi. Sure he's a nice guy, maybe there's some funny bones in him too which chicks dig. He may give off that aura of reliability since he's a firstborn, and their family isn't exactly trailer trash. From the first chapter, he exuded some sort of privilege, something that Uta lacked, I think so, since Uta was somewhat neglected by their parents and have to work for herself so she wouldn't be pitied--a psychological trauma that for me it seems Reiichi dodged a bit.
   BUT Reiichi, for me, is a character of mere appearances. Sadly, helpless and hopless gals fall for such.

2. Those appearances might have triggered Kaoru's and/or Risako's romantic needs and thought he's the prince charming they've been waiting for. Appearances, no matter how mundane, can easily attract some folks to you.

Separate note:
I cheer for Uta. Reiichi could just go suck bags of dick. Risako can go to hell. And Kaoru, grow the fuck up. Absentee dad can wallow in whatever purgatory he's in. And ladyboss mom can just, I don't know, find a butch lez lover so she could at least share some emotional connect wih her gay daughter.
I'm so hoping for Uta's happy ending, along with her friends and their shop manager. The rest can just go burn.

I've been thinking about if Kase-san is also a kind of "slow burn romance". I didn't get the impression from the story though. For me, Kase-san, is an in-your-face kind of romance.

I suppose, slow-burn romance stories like WYaLS or BiY can be difficult to write considering that intrapersonal conflicts (i.e personal doubts, negative emotions, etc.) are the source for drama. And trying to translate those to manga instead of the usual prose-writing can be problematic especially if authors need to dutifully consider readers' input.

In other words, in-between that slow burn, what else can the story offer us voyeurs that's extraordinary?
