No, more about the fact that these types of dinners where drinking is involved can be dangerous, at least as far as what I've read in mangas and LNs. There's a few tropes in play;
1. Women can't typically hold their alcohol - which considering the expected body weight of female actresses probably isn't too far off the mark considering the next point.
2. Men/producers/investors will force drinks onto the women/actresses that they can't refuse because it would be "rude" to decline a drink from someone of higher standing. Take in 5-6 drinks within a short time period and most people would be feeling it. So unless you have the backing or ability to refuse the drinks, they can add up.
3. While it is a dinner, it could be unsightly if you are seen eating too much (to help combat the effects of the alcohol) so you eat lighter foods and generally snack.

Combine all of these and you have a recipe for disaster and potentially career ruining events. You could pass out during the dinner, you could get taken advantage of while intoxicated, your image in front of these influential people could be tarnished, you could be forced into a compromising situation or maybe all of the above. Hence why the assistant is worried.

Why is the elf attending highschool if she’s over 9000 years old? Like, even if she looks young enough to attend, what does she get out of it? Wouldn’t she already know more than the teachers? Plus, it must be pretty weird for her classmates to have someone older than the Roman Empire in their class?

I mean, if you are over 9000 years old, a change of pace and new experiences are probably hard to come by. Suddenly, a whole new planet with unknown technology, history, culture, and knowledge is open to you with the option to attend a school that will teach you this curriculum. Wouldn't you jump at the chance?

For everyone else, yeah maybe its weird, but they're probably experiencing all kinds of weird things, so just add it to the list.

I don't recall hearing about such before so dunno how common it is, but it did strike me as a bit wierd- but then I thought its not much different than how in America a company might have a bowling team or a quiz team etc.

I gathered that it was something informal, like the drinking clubs that ended up just being mixers. And given Kasumi’s beauty, her being pushed to join one doesn’t surprise me; and neither does her telling Sakurako so she can join as well, to go to the events together. From what I’ve heard, social events are a huge part of business culture in Japan and can play a role in upward movement.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on that last point.

There seems to be a loud mosquito crying foul but mostly I’ve just seen praise for the first episode; from knowledgeable fans praising a good start to newcomers welcoming a change to the standard fare. I think it’ll die down after episode two airs especially after she tries to kill the second Lost One and they realize it wasn’t “feminist propaganda” though I won’t hold my breath on any of them actually admitting to changing their minds.

Eavesdropping on superiors in a military is a different indiscretion from eavesdropping on cadets.

Eavesdropping on superiors can lead to the spread of classified intel.

(I mean, I'm not saying she's justified in eavesdropping, or that she was being honest when she criticized her daughter, I'm just pointing out they're not exactly the same.)

Yes I am aware, however the way she phrased the accusation was "a proud officer cadet like you would never do something like that, right?", focusing on her daughter's character rather than any actual breaching of military code. And in this situation it is hardly an officer listening in on cadets either.

Point is, her own pride or lack thereof certainly does not seem to stop herself from eavesdropping.

I'm not sure I'd call what she's doing eavesdropping. They are literally right outside the room they were just arguing in. Do you expect her to up and change rooms just because they decided to have their conversation there. If they had any intention of not being overheard, they should've moved elsewhere. So to equate that to eavesdropping on your superior officers is a bit much.
