Holy crap, I honestly did not think Chiaki would catch a clue from this. (air horns) WE HAVE RECOGNITION OF FEELINGS! Huzzah!
in France and surrounding countries people will sometimes kiss people they are close to on the cheek when they meet up. But you know that sure still isn't a kiss on the lips which even here you only do with people that are your lover
Yeah, that's what I meant. In my country as well, kissing on the cheeks is a very common greeting gesture, but certainly not on the lips?! Every time I read that in a manga I can't help but wonder if they really think that happens or they just use it because it's convenient for the plot...
I don't think most authors think kissing on the lips casually is a thing in most countries (though apparently it's a thing in South Africa?) but it probably comes across as plausible? Most people don't know about kissing traditions in other countries. So it becomes an excuse. Like, if you've got a gay character who is afraid they've overextended themselves, it's an attempt to pass off their clearly gay behavior as something innocent. If you've got a character who is afraid of getting their hopes up, it becomes a way to dismiss a clear signal. It capitalizes on people not knowing much about foreign cultures. And because plenty of people actually don't know much about foreign cultures, occasionally it probably turns into disinformation.
Idiot couple tag when? :3
idiot love interest in this case because Nagisa is very on top of her own emotions and knows what she wants, but Mashiro just keeps going "oh but she can't possibly mean love as in LOVE" "she can't possibly like me THAT way" haha
but yeah like at this point Nagisa has for real confessed at least twice already and fully assumes she has gotten a positive answer so really all we have to do is wait for Nagisa to go in for a kiss, at which point Mashiro will have to either accept the fact that she's being an idiot or she'll have to start making some truly amazing leaps of logic. Either way I'm certain this story will do it in a way that will be enjoyable to see.
I keep wondering if the translation isn't a bit overzealous. I haven't seen the raws, so I can't say for sure, but it's a common thing in stories like this for the characters to use "suki" (like) to describe their feelings at early stages of a relationship. Even "daisuki" actually means "like a lot" rather than "love" and can be used for friends as well as lovers. The tendency to use this word is part of the cultural habit in Japan to understate emotional bonds.
I'm pretty sure all of Nagisa's "love" comments are "like" comments in the original Japanese. The translator is interpreting it as "love" because that's what she means, but the story depends on the ambiguity of "I like you" to keep Mashiro's reactions plausible.
So we end up getting Nagisa going "I love her" "I love you" "We're in love" and Mashiro keeps responding with "If only she liked me as more than friends."
But like I said, I haven't seen the raws, it could be Nagisa keep using "aishiteru" and Mashiro has some kind of deep seated denial for some reason.
I had the same reaction as Saki when Kanon explained the marriage sign. Well, my thoughts were more like "So... would gay marriage be two thumbs and lesbian marriage two pinkies, or what?" lol
Now I wonder if that's how Saki is going to express how she feels about Kanon eventually, by doing the "I love You" sign first followed up by that marriege sign but with two pinkies ^^;;
that would be really cool actually, and I'm being completely serious here pretty ingenious storytelling if it does happen
Unless this takes place over a very long span of their relationship, I feel like jumping to a marriage proposal would be kind of cart-before-the-horse-y?
I just gonna say it to make it clear, i just don't like poly endings for love triangle.
That's fine. For me, an excellent writer can make just about anything convincing, but judging by the evidence here on Dynasty that's very hard to do well--such poly endings as there are tend usually to seem rushed or imposed on the story rather than occurring organically.
I don't quite get how these days every garden-variety love triangle seems to bring out a bunch of poly shippers, no matter how tenuous the narrative possibility might be (I'm not saying that about this one--I need to do a re-read to remember the overall flow of the relationships here).
I think this particular series seems to be reasonably read as at least teasing the possibility.
I mean, it starts off as a fairly straightforward love triangle, but it definitely seems to point towards a poly conclusion numerous times. Mei definitely has actual feelings towards Rinna and Sayo, she isn't just reluctant to hurt somebody. That by itself is standard love triangle stuff, but Rinna -also- has a bit of a crush on Sayo, with the little budding love arrow (hell, even in this latest chapter, the love arrow that leads Mei to Sayo? Came from Rinna
Pair that with the fact that the story goes out of the way to show us (and Mei) that poly relationships are a thing, with the teachers, and it definitely seemed like they were planting the suggestion that there is another option besides choosing one or the other.
Now, it's possible that this was just the author exploring the general theme of the comic that there are different kinds of romantic love. But at the very least, I get why somebody would feel like it's foreshadowing something along those lines.
These two are basically going to stumble their way into a fully conscious relationship, mark my words.
"Wow, Chiaki, I can't believe we both tripped on the sidewalk in front of a jewelry store, fell through a plate glass window, and landed fingers-first in a display full of wedding rings!"
This just makes me think of an image of Chiaki with wedding rings on all of her fingers, in a pose that mirrors a particular famous Green Lantern comic.
(Edit: I mean I guess she could try head trauma again, but I wouldn't recommend it.)
Given that time-travel here is a minimal plot device rather than a consistent science-fiction trope (future cell phones working on past flip-phone networks tell us that plot mechanics are there to be handwaved away), wouldn’t a second head-trauma time reset be the most likely prediction?
Oh, I agree, but like....she's not gonna do that on purpose. At least she shouldn't.
I would actually find a "She never returns to the present" timeline to be pretty brave and novel, though. I feel bad for future Seto, though.
Older Nana has to realize at some point that she doesn't belong in this time, right? She can't just stay and let young Seto get even more attached. As nice as the fanservice is, I wonder if it will ever dawn on her.
What exactly is she supposed to do? Call the Doctor? Visit Doc Brown? Hail the Enterprise?
(Edit: I mean I guess she could try head trauma again, but I wouldn't recommend it.)

Accidental kisses are funny and cute, but I don't consider it actual progress until they do it on purpose.
(Edit: Of course, this series being what it is, this will most likely just lead to a pattern where they add kissing to their repertoire while also wondering if the other means it romantically while they both insist it is somehow platonic.)

Tho actually thinking abt it.... I wonder what made them fall for each other.... It wasn't too clear to me through the translation or perhaps its feelings so... There wouldn't be reasons behind it too. It just happens.
Well, Lumiao clearly fell in love at first sight. She likes cute things. For YuXuan it seemed to be more gradual, but I got the impression it was mostly in response to Lumiao's care and compassion for her.
It is not over...after 20 chapters? Chapter 20 will be a perfect place to end it. Now we have a OL, a College student, and a high school students, having an unequal throple.
Nobody here is an OL. "Sasaki" is a waitress. "OL" is short for "Office Lady".
She was an OL before the timeslip.
It's possible I missed something, but the first chapter never shows us what she did for a living before the timeslip. Even if she was, she also was once a college student, a high school girl, a middle school girl, a primary school girl, an adolescent and a baby and a fetus, but she is not any of those things now.

(laugh) This is the only manga I have ever read where I started reading a chapter, thought I'd hit a time skip, and then realized it was actually a flashback.
Also holy shit, way to blow up the status quo. These girls don't do anything by half measures, do they?
This is adorable. Supportive daughter shipping her gay mom is not something I realized I wanted before now.
The title screen and supernatural content of the program makes me think of a show called "Dark Shadows" that was produced back in the 60s, but I'm not sure if that's an intentional reference. (Dark Shadows is not very lesbians, so if it is a reference, it's an oblique one.
I was pretty amused by:
Ayari: ...Some lovers do it for their partners....
Sachi: (Immediately starts thinking of doing it for Ayari) I hope I get to try it out one day!
Ayari: !! (already making plans to do it for Sachi tomorrow)
Idk why everyone's celebrating such a massive violation of someone's personal space and the lack of consent. Tongtong kissed her multiple times in her sleep and even tried slipping some tongue in. Imagine if a guy was doing that. I'd bet a lot more people would call it assault instead of saying it's cute.
A) They're children, they're allowed to fuck up.
B) Neither of them are clean here. Lin Xiao Lu's anonymous internet account and pretending to sleep to get kissed are also violations of trust. You could say that makes them both terrible, but, again, children. Allowed to fuck up.
C) It's dumb to get offended on behalf of someone who is not themselves offended. Out of context, yeah, it's not okay to kiss somebody without their permission. In context, Lin really really wanted it to happen (so much that she staged the circumstances) so It is literally a victimless crime. It doesn't make it okay to do, but it does make it easier to forgive.
D) It's fiction. Just because you're excited by a fictional turn of events doesn't mean you have to condone that behavior in real life.
Her mom doesn't condone the act of that, just that some people are forced into such roles. socioeconomics and so on
Tongtong: "Mommy! Is there any chance that Lin Xiao Lu would start liking me even if I'm a girly girl?"
(snip image)
That isn't condoning it, that's just stating it would work on her.
(sigh) Oh, fine, I'll give it the full Sherlock.
Misumi is 16 as of the start of the series, and I believe it has been far less than a year since then. At best she's 17, she may actually still be 16.
Also, Yoshioka has raised concern about criminal charges at least twice, and Aizawa expressed the same concern after Misumi slept in the futon with her.back in chapter 5. If the characters in-universe are raising the concern, I don't think it's too far-fetched.
I am sorry, but the previous chapter established they are third years about to graduate. There is no argument for your side. Even the youngest third years are 17 and I doubt she is that far away from her next birthday. The circumstances would have to be incredibly unfavorable for this to be a concern even in the nearest future.
On the contrary, The manga is explicit on this. She did all the kissing and touching stuff while Misumi was still a minor.
(for one thing, 17 is still underage.)
When they first meet in person, it's at a doujin event at the Big Sight, which means Comiket.
From all the heavy coats in that scene it's probably the winter comiket, which means december-ish.
They meet again at another, smaller event not long after and start going out.
They go on a date not long after that...
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/kami_eshi_jk_to_ol_fujoshi_ch02#22
She is a 2nd year when they meet and go on their first date, and she explicitly says she is 16. We don't know exactly when this scene takes place, but she wouldn't call herself a 2nd year before her 1st year ended. This has to be before July because of the next event, so we're somewhere between mid april and mid june when they have their first date
Now, she might be weeks away from 17. That's definitely possible. I would think she would have thrown that out there if it were the case, since she's trying to court someone much older than her.
The next event is in July, (summer comiket, back at the big sight)
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/kami_eshi_jk_to_ol_fujoshi_ch04#16
(also a bit before this we find out the story takes place in 2018, because you actually see date stamps on one of the phone conversations!)
After this event, she sleeps over at Ai's house and has a panic moment when they wake up in the same bed, because, y'know, she's 16, and for someone over 20 to sleep with somebody under 18 is a misdemeanor. They didn't actually do anything sexual, but if she had, that would be actual legal trouble.

Later, Ai attends Misumi's cultural festival, which would be in November, and after that Agrioka ends and the call by the publisher to do the manga adaptation. Misumi goes to meet the editor and reaffirms that at this point she is still a 2nd year high school student. That means we're still under a year from that first date.
This means, by the way, when they first met, Misumi was a first year. It also places their first date 8 or 9 months prior.
Next thing is the zoo collab, at which point everybody is in heavy coats, so this is still winter. First kiss, definitely less than a year from when she explicitly said she was 16.
Then there's the wedding, and then finally Misumi's third year starts.
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/kami_eshi_jk_to_ol_fujoshi_ch16#6
That puts this in April, Over a year since they met but less than a year since the first date where she said she was 16. That means, at best, she's 17 at this point.
Then we have Comitia, that's in May, and the sleepover with Madoromi and Misumi is that night, and the next day is the shopping for underwear scene, with the kiss and the boob touch. The flashback to the end of that scene even explicitly says she's still underage.
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/kami_eshi_jk_to_ol_fujoshi_ch21#13
So yeah, about a year, possibly less, since they started dating (although when I said "far less" I was definitely wrong) and she's still underage. We don't know exactly how old she is or when her birthday comes, she could be freshly 17, or 17 going on 18, but either way she's still definitely explicitly a minor at this point.
Yoshioka also doesn't know Misumi's age I believe and based this entirely on her being a high schooler. Ai-san is also the type to be always anxious. Regardless of legality, socially it is still hardly accepted.
(Yoshioka based this on her being a high schooler because anybody that is a high schooler is likely to be a minor, and Misumi explicitly is.)
Again, I'm not saying that Ai is going to go to jail, or that she's breaking the law, I'm saying her behavior is bordering on risky, In an explicit, objective sense, both by the standards of the real world and by the standards set within the context of the fiction itself.

I like that the only real conflict here is life/reality vs. hopes, goals and wishes. That said, it would be great if an obsessive ex or childhood friend/stalker-girl of both girls showed up on alternate days and kissed the two MCs in front of their girlfriends, simply to .... slaps self.
"I'm stalling... nooo, I'm not stalling I'm...... doing a side chapter
Admittedly.
Also, what's driving ME nuts is none of them are acknowledging that the OL is a godly WRITER, for Kannon's sake!!!
You need both, and she's obviously talented, or the JK MC wouldn't keep telling her and others that she is.
JK can talk about the mood and interpretation with OL. They can work on the name together, with OL doing the writing and JK the positioning. Then JK can finish the actual drawing. That will save JK all the writing time she'd otherwise waste doing the part she doesn't care about.
Eh, Ai is good at heaping flowery praise on the artists she likes, and she definitely has a lot of charm and capability as a person (Even her friend from work, who insists she doesn't care about any of Ai's interests, still wants to be around her and know what's going on with her) but those are different skills from writing good fiction.
I'm not saying Ai couldn't be a writer, just that we haven't been shown anything along those lines. She hasn't even indicated an interest in it.
I think Ai's biggest strengths are her enthusiasm and her organizational skills. She's more of a godly manager than anything.
Can I ask what is the recent trend in not translating the word "neemu" into storyboard or manuscript? There are two perfectly good english words that describe what it is, nobody is going to misunderstand them, and the direct translation of the katakana is an english word with a totally different meaning. All translating it as "name" does is make it confusing to read. (Edit: And, I mean, they -know- that, because they put a note underneath it every time.)
This isn't like the suffixes or other japanese phrases and words that usually go untranslated, where there's a nuance that doesn't exist in english. There's no special cultural meaning that makes "storyboard" or "manuscript" or even "layouts" inappropriate, as far as I know, so am I missing something?

Roll credits.
I've held off on reading this version after the other one was cancelled and jee. Maybe I'm misremembering the older one but I'm having a hard time with this one like its kinda uncomfy at times
The older one barely gets into the actual idiosyncracies of the characters. Adachi's tunnel vision hadn't fully come into play and Shimamura's aloofness wasn't really a problem yet. As they get closer to each other, their personal weirdnesses start to become relevant and the tension in the story ratchets up. It's supposed to be uncomfy. Young love isn't an old shoe, it's a brand new one that chafes on your heels and gives you blisters until you break it in.
I know the tags are saying Yuri Crush, but I mean, come on, there’s no way Uri Chan doesn’t want to date Neeko. I hope we at least get a confession.
Yeah, but....We don't know if Neeko wants to date Uri. That's what makes it a crush.
Hmm, Neeko is wondering what happened to her after college that completely ruined her motivation to integrate into the society, but didn't she have flashbacks of it right on the very first page of the manga? Or is it the case that she possibly doesn't consciously remember being chewed out and spit out by the system? I mean, repression of traumatic memories is a real coping mechanism.
What we see at the beginning of the series is a dream, it isn't necessarily how it actually went down, or her holding a clear memory of it., it's an expression of how her subconscious views the trauma. (Of course, that seems to apply here, too, but at least narratively this new dream seems more likely to be a proper flashback.
It's also possible that she's repressed the memories, like you said.
