From the manga's description I thought this was going to be a love story between Midori and Haru. Well it seems that this is not possibly the case, and I'm glad because it's weird for me to ship a well grown adult with a kid.
I do think there's some potential with that black haired classmate of Haru though.
So far the story is meh. I liked Prism, so I expected something more. We're still in the begging though so who knows.
It's basically a cute girls who happen to also be vampire story. You know, when them being a vampire is just for extra points instead of having a plot around it.
Also I don't understand why she didn't just brainwash someone else to kill her instead, if she wanted to die. Feels more like a plot hole
Can't really decide who uselessness I hate more, Mei Aihara or Kaoru
At least Mei is actually into Yuzu and she isn't such a doormat like Kaoru. Pretty sure she wouldn't stay like that if she was suspected she was being cheated on.
I think the story has been kind of muddled about Kaoru's feelings towards Uta. Early on it was made very explicit that she felt a very deep and longstanding emotional connection (not to mention a remarkable desire for skinship) with Uta, one that was deeper and of longer-standing than the one she has with Reiichi. Their relationship came very close to the older woman being emotionally dependent on the younger one, and it seemed clear that those feelings could very possibly take a turn toward the romantic, and that to some extent they were already leaning in that direction.
Well I guess that's another way to interpret her always hugging Uta. I still didn't see that as a sign of a romantic interest, although it can turn out to be the case.
I saw it more as a way to show one of the reasons why Uta developed romantic feelings for Kaoru and why it was hard for her to live with Kaoru, since the latter was always being so physical.
I don't rightly know I could go either way on the whole Kaoru x Uta thing
On the one hand I think that yeah, maybe Uta is better off going off alone and making her own way. She's been through some shit and she at least seems to have made peace with her feelings.
On the other hand I think maybe judging Kaoru's "Oh shit what have I done?" reaction she might start to rethink some of her ole bullshit and her feelings for Uta. The whole I didn't know what I had till it's gone kinda deal.
This can definitely happen, but at this point of the story it makes me wonder if that would be the best way to write about an "unrequited love" themed story.
Most stories out there have a happy ending, but at the same time I think we also need some of the more realistic ones that show things as they actually turn out to be instead of this fantasy protective veil that everything will turn out as you want in the end. And this story has been pretty faithful to this theme, as well as showing that Kaoru doesn't feel this way about Uta.
Also this story is good at the visual hints without telling it directly. When there are hints like that you know the author is at least decent.
For example, Reichi's character design is weird. His face looks like these arrogant antagonists. That's a way for the author to subtly say the readers are not supposed to ship him with Kaoru.
Uta's facial expressions are really spot on and very well depicted. You could actually see in her face how sad she was when she was thinking of Kaoru. It takes talent in drawing to do that. Also the look she gave Kaoru in this chapter.before leaving.
Kaoru wears these type of long baggy clothes that remind me of hospital clothes. Her style shows that she has given up on herself.
Kaoru getting hurt is unavoidable. In fact I think Uta is doing her a favor by leaving now. The more she stayed the more Kaoru would.be able to live in her delusions and as a result even more difficult to leave Reiichi. It's also pretty possible they'd have kids shortly after, which would make it worse.
She is bound to suffer, but one choice will actually help her break free even if temporarily will hurt more.
The way I see this being a positive story, even if it won't have a happy ending like them ending up together, is by showing how Uta taught Kaoru to be able to break free from from that cycle. They still were very important to each other. Not every person who is important ends up being a lover.

Uta may have been a hetero before she fell in love with kaoru... I know a person who was married and had 2 children, building a house and on a trip, falling in love with another woman around her and dropping everything, veridical!
The truth of a day is not necessarily the truth of tomorrow ^^
Sexual orientation doesn't change. Maybe being in denial and finally snapping.
Lol I don't wanna sound negative, but there was absolutely no sign or indication she could be into Uta/girls all through the story.
My brother's wife ending ? (minus the dead brother)
Haven't read that
It will kinda pair with the cheating tho. If Kaoru still prefer Reiichi over Uta after the possible cheating then i'm at lost of words and hopes for her
Well in reality she's just straight, so it's either Reiichi or not Uta. But for the shake of the story lets make her into girls suddenly.
Lol I don't wanna sound negative, but there was absolutely no sign or indication she could be into Uta/girls all through the story.
I have to admit, this story is well written, but it's not pleasant to read.
Also the fact that the brother is cheating sounds a bit convenient. Would she ever dump him for Uta if he was loving and considerate to her? I very highly doubt it.
You always need convenient things in manga in order to advance.
Yes you do, but this is different. I don't like the idea that if they end up together it will only be because he was cheating, and not because Kaoru actually prefered Uta over him.
Kaoru is a needy person, so it would just make me think she's even willing to be with Uta to not be alone.
Can you really blame her for that ? Kaoru has no family so Reiichi and Uta is what she have as a family and now one is leaving and the other is presumably cheating on her. She is not "needy" she is alone.
I don't blame her and her actions are understandable, but not everyone in her situation would react like that. Sometimes we must feel really shitty to be able to move on. It would be pretty difficult for her to stop ignoring reality, but she will be forced to eventually. Ignoring the cheating won't make it go away. She us weak.
Uta on the other hand realizes that she has to suck it up so she can move on and not get trapped in a miserable cycle, despite her situation being very difficult as well.
Also there are plenty of men out there to date. I mean, if you really need to cling on someone, you can still find a better choice than a cheater and someone who married you out of pity.
It just seems like she was trying to get from Uta what Reiichi didn't give her.
And yet you blame Kaoru. If Reiichi was a good husband, Kaoru will never feel the urge to have someone
How did I blame Kaoru? I only said that she wouldn't dump him for Uta if she wasn't forced to. Being someone's second choice (aka rebound) doesn't sound appealing at all.
at this point of the manga anything can happen really, but if uta and kaoru end up together at the end this is going to be netsuzou trap but even worse
Yeah not sure if I'd even want them to be together at this point, even if there is a "redemption".

Kaoru is annoying me tbh, plus its awful seeing the story from Uta's perspective. But I still don't dislike her. I feel sorry for her almost as much as Uta.

If she was over it she could have stay but instead she decide to go back tothe reason she came here. It's not immature but that's sound plain stupid on paper. Also only time know if Kaoru will not be interested after the whole Reiichi cheating problem.
But she's not over it. She tried being ok with it and it only got worse. Going back to her parents only shows how desperate she is, and how bad this situation hurt her.
Plus she is her brother's wife and they're married.
Not for long.
She doesn't even know about any of this though. So it would still be her trying to steal her brother's wife.
Literraly asking the wrong person for help. Now that's an outstanding move, that smile isn't from someone who want to help, it's the smile of someone knowing she can her move without any problem since Kaoru is in a big slump and Uta just leave. Now i will just wait that everything explode into Uta's face. Living with her parents because she don't want to live with Kaoru isn't really mature in itself, she just ditch her Kaoru problem away and go face bigger problems. She just choose another poison here. Kuroe was right, if she really want to grow up, she should have go living by herself.
She's still in school and doesn't have the means (money) to go live on her own and also still a minor.
She said she plans living on her own when she graduates from high school.
It's not immature. All through the story we've seen her suffering being around Kaoru and knowing they can't be together. Is she supposed to be more persistent about it when Kaoru has made it clear she is not interested? Plus she is her brother's wife and they're married. Like imagine your sibling trying to steal your significant other. Sounds nasty.
It went how I imagined it. Wrapping all loose ends quickly and giving Seju a happy ending. I can't say I'm disappointed because this was a pretty expected ending.
I liked the Seju and her mom pic moment the most. It was sad and heart warming.
I think they could have explored the mystery of what happened to Seju's mom way more. And even make Dowon help her all through the process, so we didn't have a rushed romantic ending like that.
On the other hand, Seju remained true to her character and that's a good thing. She was still stubborn and a bit cold while talking to Dowon, so at least they didn't change her character to reinforce the happy ending.
There was definitely room for dragging this story more, but the fact that they finished it so quick makes me think they didn't care as much either.
Anyway, still a decent story overall. It had the potential to be something great.

I agree that this doesn't seem to be an easy going manga like Renai. But I don't understand why complain about the drama in a story that is supposed to be about drama. Like that's the whole purpose. There are so many easy going stories out there, that I think we do need stories like Kodama's as well.
I'm actually more interested about the drama between the ex friend and the mc rather than the Yankee.
Uploaded a few hours ago and already two pages of comments.
The power of Kodama Naoko.
We need more Korean stories ;-; There's a whole another vibe and way of storytelling in the manhwas compared to the mangas. The Korean GL era was pretty nice.
Feels like this story ended too soon. The premise of the girls who were being two timed ending up dating each other was very interesting. I liked the first half of the story more though and the drama after chapter 40 wasn't that wow. Like the Kim Ester work drama. I only liked the part with that other co worker girl liking and obsessing over Guk hwa. I'd like it if Jun min was more active in that part of the story, since they were already dating, so might as well make more use of their relationship.
Both of their family drama was meh, and even though it was some heavy sh!t, it didn't feel much rewarding reading about it. It didn't have much impact to the present story besides to show how they were destined to be together in the very last chapter. Also I think it's a bit of cliche to use abuse for a character's background to make it more impactful. Or the classic crazy ex bf thing. That was also a bit overused and dragged in here too imo, but at least it helped the story move forward and their relationship to progress, so I wasn't bothered.
Overall I prefer the stories before the couple dates, because there's more drama potential there. But I liked how Jun mi was so forward with her feelings when she confessed. And the author should really have showed the scene of Guk hwa meeting Jun min's sister. Why cut it there? Also there was some lack of sexy scenes.
Definitely one of the best stories I've read the past year. I really like the married couple vibes they give, and how their chemistry is built around that rather than sexual chemistry and angst (I like this too, it's just that there are way more stories for that)
Also from first reading it, I thought Maekawa was a bit of an ass, but on a second read you can see she's frustrated because Shimizu is also difficult in showing her emotions.
They both have problems expressing intimacy.
(Maekawa be like, I helped her admit she's gay only to go and flirt with another girl lmao)
Are chapters out every month?

^ I like the dysfunctional relationships Kodama Naoko writes. Not sure who I'm supposed to ship the mc with, although it sounds pretty hard to make the ex friend likeable. It sounds interesting though, I'll check it.

I've came across this story a long ago, and I didn't read it on purpose. But I'm in the lookout for good series these days, so I said I'd give it a chance.
Wow. This is the most uncomfortable I've been reading Yuri. The way she pushed her and how obvious it was she doesn't see Uta this way...
It also didn't help how the story was so focused on Uta being so hung up to Kaoru and not giving her a second option for dating.
I mean, this is what realistically happens in unrequired love. You won't have someone to support you or be a potential love interest when you need it the most. I like reading about broken characters and difficult relationships, but they're only enjoyable if you know there's love between the characters.
There is nothing positive about this situation. And on top of that, Kaoru kept wanting to brush it off and remain family, while thinking of how she was in love with Reii.
And the fact that she is married to her brother just makes it two times worse for me. Idk about the cheating, but I would feel so guilty if I was in love with my sibling's or friend's significant other.
So the fact that the person she is in love with is her brother's wife doesn't even let me enjoy some of the angst of the unrequired love in here. Really, simply a straight girl who is not interested is way less heavy than this.
All through the story I was thinking so many things I would have done differently than Uta so I wouldn't end up in that situation. Like for example, the relationship with my sibling is more important than a love interest, or I lose interest easy when I see that there's no reciprocation from the other person.
But Uta didn't have these mechanisms herself, so reading her story was like being trapped in a hellhole.
Why is she scared of Izumi? Facing her own gayness through Izumi's actions, or something else?
I could be completely off base, but what I got from it was that Fujishiro basically realized that she was in denial about her feelings for Kurokawa, so she confided in Izumi, internally hoping that Izumi would give her the reality check she needed. When Izumi did the opposite of what she was expecting and instead encouraged her denial further with such insistence, the mindset that her words and actions implies are potentially a direct opposition to the kind of person that Fujishiro needs to become.
In simpler terms, Fujishiro is realizing she's gay, and Izumi is starting to seem like she might be homophobic, or possibly super closeted to the point of denying the validity of gay relationships...? Or maybe Izumi's in even worse denial about having feelings for Fujishiro and Fujishiro can see herself in that side of Izumi, which scares her because of the implications about her own feelings. I don't know, that's my best guess at the moment.
I think it's more simple than that. Izumi has a crush on her, so she gave off a possessive jealous vibe while she was comforting Fujishiro

Agh I liked Izumi as a character. Hope she doesn't take this too far and ruin their friendship. Also I think she knows she has a crush on Fujishiro. Because some chapters ago in the karaoke, she smiled in a knowing way when Fujishiro asked her if she has felt this was for a friend.
I'm usually not into slice of life stories, but this chapter was funny and we got to see everyone teaching in their own expertise. Didn't know Risa is a zumba instructor.
We can't have romantic situations in all of the chapters. I mean, that would get boring after a while too.
First time i come across this one and wow. It's really good, and I really like all of the characters...!! Can't wait for next chapter
She's coming indeed! (Lily) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi4vqbs3pio
What manga is that from?
