That's something I've heard has happened before, and yeah some of how people are raised can be really hard to break away from. I'm also glad I was born at a time where I didn't have internet, I was going to the movie rental store and getting excited for new releases on VHS and then DVD later, sometimes getting a PC game disc for a basic kids game, and then years later getting Dial Up internet. I feel like having more of an ability to detach from the internet has really helped me in my life, and I think some people that grow up always online right away might have a harder time detaching from the internet.

^It's unfortunate how much artists get bullied, and that art is tame. I think part of it is that people often don't have their priorities in order, or real life troubles that are more pressing. I've seen some really disturbing art over the years but I don't think I've ever thought "verbally harassing the artist / their fans" is the answer, nor would I have the energy to do so. Real life is full of so many difficult challenges already, I generally want to focus on enjoying what I like and get through the day lol

For me it's a non serious rom-com where two characters fumble their way through figuring out their sexuality, and so far it's entertaining. I'm not worried about the writing quality myself lol

I think something that's only gotten worse online over the years is that some people have to make a point of hating something, they don't see something they dislike and move on, and maybe block/mute the creator, instead they have to make a comment, often attacking the artist, the people that enjoy it, and so fourth. I think Touhou gets hit with that a bit less due to being an older franchise.
