i didn't get the "i look like daddy" bit, could someone explain please?
It has to do with the colour of her hair, chestnut or something else depending on the translation (scan or official), you can see she painted the "tip" or strands of her hair (I'm missing some vocabulary here, didn't find a good translation from my own language).
Then it suddenly get brought up again here with no prior lead-up.
There is in the first chapters and if you stop to think about it (her situation, etc.), so it's not completely out of her ass. That the delivery seems like she did pull it out of her ass is a more valid point.
Even then, we're (mostly) following Yuzu's pov, so the fact that we didn't get any prior clue may have to do with the fact that Yuzu doesn't remember/don't care about that stuff and that Mei has been hiding it. I prefer to wait what it will be, to see why she didn't talk about it if she really is engaged again.

Love me some backstory. The author really does good bonus chapters. It's a bit retroactive, but that explains or enhances Ume's distress when Mei was taken away when she knew her only for weeks.
I'd like to see more of how Ume and Shou ended to love/appreciate each other. Because Ume seemed pretty fond of Shou in the first chapters, so I think there's more than the arrangement. To be honest, I'd like to see more of Ume period.
[...] I was just stating my view and if you feel offended, then I'll say the same thing you said, that's your problem.
Apologies if my text sounded aggressive, it wasn't supposed to. Actually, I was trying to explain why people may like it (why it's popular) despite the fact that you, and others, think it's not good. My disgust about the "objectively" good type of argument is that most of the time people use it to state their opinion as facts(1), to make their critics indisputable and, most of the time, to shit on a story they don't like for free.
The second paragraph isn't directed at you (at all) but was to address the "it's already been done 12986 billions of times everywhere else" critic that is used for basically almost every piece of work out there (not only Citrus). Ironically, I could have sounded a bit annoyed right there.
(1)Specifically, why is this chapter's writing objectively bad? The main complain I've seen is that it comes from nowhere but I can, and I did, write that this isn't the case. The context of Mei's family and country perfectly justifies the (strong) possibility of Mei getting engaged once again to a man if she chose to pursue her objective : becoming the new director of the school. We understand what is going on, we know the stakes and it holds within the context of the story : how can it be bad writing "objectively"?
I was going to talk more about objectivity, but it already has been done in here and didn't lead anywhere.
I think it's hilarious. They're probably that obvious to everyone but nobody paid any mind because it's very unlikely.
EDIT: From the looks of it, Harumin probably didn't hear it. She is more concerned about Matsuri rather than her outburst.
I was wondering if all their closest friends knew already but were like "let's pretend we didn't see anything so they can be happy". Shirapon figured it out last volume and apparently Eyebrow-san knows about it judging by her lack of reaction and Shirapon's explanation about her worries.
For Harumin.. There is the possibility she didn't really get the outburst. Though, she probably knows Yuzu the best, she knows Yuzu as a lover, I think Yuzu has basically confessed during vol5 that she met her lover in the school and she probably figured it out during the trip. I don't know if she is protecting Matsuri or Yuzu or both by taking Matsuri away. I wonder what they said afterwards, probably nothing.
But seriously, if it's just the plain "I love you" then why go through the effort of having it interrupted? What's the point? And of course, since this is a manga, they don't talk to each other for the rest of the night or continue it the next day. Because that's how conversations work. /s
She said "Me too" as well, I didn't remember it, but that's pretty definite. Translator-san, I need you, where, word for word, is Mei interrupted in Japanese?
As to why it was interrupted, coincidence? Dramatic effect? Lazy writing ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)? Mei already has acknowledged her feelings for Yuzu in vol4, this is just teasing I guess, I don't think it's that big of a deal story wise, it is just for Yuzu. Also, they could talk about something else, something less embarrassing. One of the issue they had since the beginning of the story is that Mei is bad at communicating. Not everybody has the strength to sit around a table a discuss calmly of every issue they have every days, though.
I guess I'm the only one rooting for Tokujira... Perhaps it's my saviour complex talking and the fact that Itsuki fell for her first. But I'm halfway through and I think she deserves to be loved. I guess Tokujira is a really good friend at heart for pushing them together (although she asks him if he still likes her), makes me kind of sad.
Author clearly likes drama but is unable to bring a good drama everytime [...]
That's your problem here. People like it even if you don't or if it's objectively good (ugh) or not. I love the characters and I like to see how they react. I'm loving the angst and the fact that I'm screaming internally when something gets in their way. I love to see them struggle because despite all the suffering and internal conflict they have, it is worth it at the end.
Now, people have to understand that not everybody has read the entire repertoire of dynasty scans four times. So there is a chance that others may not have your high standards and may not get tired of tropes you've read a hundred times. Be it because they didn't read it a hundred times or because they are more tolerant to it.
So she has a fiance now. On the other hand the grandfather said this once
Well, I think he was more talking about her career path than her love life. Perhaps it was also in the spur of the moment, he had almost died, so after some time to reflect, Japanese being extreme traditionalist, he changed is mind?
That said, it could also come from Mei herself. He said "chose the live you want to live" or something close in the official translation and she confessed to Yuzu that she wanted to take the direction of the school after her father left. The difference with the beginning of the story is that it's now Mei's own choice.
Now think about it, what good would it do to a prestigious all girl highschool with only daughters of filthy rich parents with EXTREME traditionalist views to have a female director that is not only single (which is a mortal sin in Japan from what I gathered), but in a couple with her own step-sister? Sure, Mei told Yuzu in the library that they had to go on without caring about other people's opinion, but if she doesn't want her school (her brand new life goal, something she chose thanks to Yuzu) to go out of business because none of the old farts would want their daughters to be in a school ran by a lesbian, she will have to make some concessions.
It makes sense and it wouldn't be the same as their first obstacle. First Yuzu was there to free Mei from her social prison, force her to make her own choices, which she did. Matsuri was there for Mei to fully embrace her feelings, Sara was there for Yuzu to fully embrace Mei's feelings. Harumin's sister was there for Yuzu to help her friend. Volume 6 was pretty sweet but added society's viewpoint on Mei and Yuzu's love. Volume 7 doesn't have that much conflict, but we saw Mei's starting to struggle to keep her feelings in check, that was passed on volume 8 which was pretty low in conflict and pretty sweet as well.
But now, Mei's choice clashes with her love for Yuzu. But wait and see. I really think this a series that should be read only by volumes. When I read the entire thread, lots of people were whining and flipping tables because they thought the story will go in one direction when it went in another (sometimes they were right as well); I think the rage sentiment induced by cliffhangers would have a much less negative impact if read by volumes. That said, it's the same with TV shows and everything else with cliffhangers.
Perhaps it's just Mei fearing Yuzu's reactions to a scam marriage to protect the reputation of her future school. There would also be Mei's inner struggle to deal with the fact that she loves Yuzu intensely and the need to hide it. Finally, for a love triangle to happen, shouldn't there be three parties in love? We don't know anything yet about the fiancé (or if she has one), they could very well do a good arrangement.
Confess to what? Oh wait, we don't know because it was conveniently interrupted.
Oh come on, it's pretty obvious from the situation and all the chapters before.

Citrus always ALWAYS DELIVERS THE DAMN DRAMA, so sick of this super overrated crap
Damn! how dare people loves something that you don't like. How preposterous!
I don't even remember the rapey teacher fiance.
Was he? He just kissed her, perhaps a bit forcefully. He was a cunt, but I don't there was any risk of rape. Even if she didn't like it, Mei was giving her full consent (she was ready to make the sacrifice).

mei's dad doesn't seem the kind of guy who would aprove his daughter marring into money and reputation to someone she doesn't love(anymore), wouln't he had something to say against gramps? also don't know if yuzu's mom could also get into the decision being her legal tutor
Well, Mei's dad probably lost his right to talk when he deserted Japan and just went to move around. Yuzu's mom is new to the family and is woman... I think they'll have to say fuck it to family or convince the grampa.
funny how everyone is so talkative the minute drama is on lol, for many reasons..... the chapter was a punch in the stomach I have to admit I didn't even want to work on it at the beginning.... anyway let's hope the plot doesn't go for the worse out come....
Nooo don't give up translator-san! Think of it as your travel through the plateau of Gorgoroth! The goal is worth it. Thank you for your work <3
Come on, I've defended this series too from critics, but I have to admit that "clever" is not how I would describe Saburota's writing. You can only have so many different love triangles before they get repetitive.
Ah it's not really a love triangle as of now. And to be honest, I think this the most plausible drama that has happened - I can accept the twins as something random that happens also IRL and it gave us a really cute confession, but this one holds in the context of Mei and her family. And it was announced in the very first chapters.
last edited at Oct 21, 2017 5:41PM
But it just does not feel believable, like, not a hint before, not even an inkling of foreshadowing, nothing. I think Saburouta literally pulled this out of her ass.
If you consider the context of her family and the fact that she was already promised to the teacher back in vol1, it was pretty much expected even if we didn't hear about it until now. Also, this would further explain why Mei was so cold up until now.
For once, nobody can tell this isn't realistic! Bad mouth would say it should have been the only real drama. Even if does bother me that it hinders our beloved protagonists once more. But I don't mind after all, I'm here for the angst and the melodrama, I'm here to feel all kind of emotions. I can't wait to see how they will all react and deal with it.
So the rapy teacher from the beginning is used for drama now? Kinda late, I already forgot about him. o.o I like the characters and the art, but the pacing and drama is weird.
I don't think it would be him, not after the scandal Yuzu did about him.
wtf happend? the art and story just went out the window
It already happened once, I think it's when she is late and is giving it to be on time.
The café / villa owner seems to be the new fiancé if he had to take that out of place phonecall. Assuming we've actually seen his real self (kind) and how he must've figured out Mei and Yuzu's relationship one way or another, isn't this actually a nice turning point? Since there's a high chance he'll find a way that those two can be together.
I could deal with that!
Edit : Ah and apparently no one is surprised that Mei and Yuzu are going together. I guess they're really bad at hiding stuff.

Ajiichiiiiiiiiii <3
so is the first girl in the past the same girl at the bar? or are they different people?
I think the first girl at the bar was just another person, most probably one of the girls MC had been interested in but never managed to confess her feelings to because of what she explains afterwards?

Suicide is a common theme in her works and SSR also has quite a few suicide/death imageries in it, [...]
That doesn't surprise me judging by what I read of SSR. And there were some saying "but it's not depressing, what are you all talking about?!" It's less bleak and hopeless than The Road, but it's still heavy with feels.
With this and MiA I feel that the lolis are blessed with good stories recently.

Why isn't Yuu blond? Still a bit sad... I don't know if it's intentional, but it's "funny" to see that they would commit suicide in a more contemporary setting and would just keep on living in a post-apocalyptic dead land.
And I'm pretty sure its pretty solid subtext from what I can remember? I mean. There are maybe ten humans in it ever.
I didn't really see any subtext, be it in the TV show or the manga. That said, they are very close since they (mostly) have only each other. I'm not sure if there'll be a place for romantic feelings; or perhaps it's so subtle I didn't see it.
idk i didn’t see that as “abuse” more like she was just kinda aggressive?
I reread the chapter and realised I was almost paraphrasing Gunj's own thoughts unconsciously, especially this page https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/the_mistress_story_ch27#18 which I had forgotten/passed over real quick.
then again, if she had told Petai she was that type of person who likes hardcore stuff from the beginning or at some point, the puppy wouldn’t be so traumatized now lol
I still think the mistress didn't want to bring Petai into this kind of plays, at least not right away. I mean, right from the first chapters, I remember Gunj rejecting Meen because she didn't want to be associated with this world any more (isn't that the reason she engaged Petai?) and was afraid of Petai discovering her suitcase.
the bad part is that the author cut the whole sex scene [...]
Yes, that is a pretty bad move I can agree on, we can only speculate because of that. My interpretation is that Petai was afraid and not ready, tried to refuse but couldn't resist the assertiveness of an experienced dominatrix.
If I were Petai rn i would feel a little sad bc that means Gunj doesn’t trust me enough to share important stuff that actually affects me as well
They didn't show it, but I think that beyond the shock of learning of Miss Gunj's dark side, there is a problem of trust between the two that they'll have to figure out.

Mori is the mothercon's name, Mori Asuka. I think you meant her friend Mizuno Rui and her mother.
Thanks, I wasn't really sure about the names yet. When I saw that flinch https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/1_x_ch04#12
and the hand holding, I first thought she had feelings similar to her daughter's. After rereading, I'm wondering if she's not just afraid to have daughter leave and forget about her. Well, both aren't mutually exclusives.
They’re in a relationship, she could’ve said that she’s into BDSM and all the other fetishes and ask if its ok...
Well yeah but maybe Gunj doesn't want Petai to know because she doesn't think the puppy girl is ready or it's not something she'd want to do to somebody she loves. Or she just wanted to distance herself from this world and have a lovey-dovey relationship.
[...]instead of keeping it a secret as if its something awful. the lack of communication between them is a big issue.
Well, if everything was going smooth and every one was reasonable - what would be interesting? Miscommunication, dramatic reactions and clashes are the core of those kind of stories. Otherwise, either it's just a fluffy sweet stuff or a boring story. Also, the logic of the readers may not apply to the logic of the characters. It's a critic I don't like when people go "but it doesn't make sense!" Well, maybe not for you...
That said, you realise Gunj attacked Pieta? That she physically abused her without consent?
like petai discovering she’s into bdsm and need to “think abt it” and leaving like wtf.
As I said, it's hardcore stuff, something that can be seen as sick or degenerate - disclaimer, I don't think it is as long as everybody is consenting. Petai just had her first time which was almost traumatic (she was hurt physically and probably mentally, again, I want to emphasize on that). Then she sees all these hardcore sexual practices and is shocked by it... I don't think it's unthinkable to want some times to think things through.
So yeah, drama could have been avoided in a perfect world, but it happened there. And considering how the events unfolded, I don't find the character's reaction are that unreasonable or illogic. I can understand though why you could be frustrated if you don't like melodramas or dramas.

I don't know if it's a spoiler. Maybe it's because of the translation or the fact that I know the end, but from this page https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/girls_secret#6 it seems pretty obvious that she is a girl, maybe it's because I didn't recognise the boy uniform as such.
"yuri" tag here baffles me, even one-sided latest chapter even implies otherwise
I think it has already been explained that you only need one party to have romantic feelings toward a girl?
Matsuri's clearly in love/admiration to Himawari, whether it's puppy love or not, we'll just have to wait to know. I want to believe they'll be something more between the two, it's just going to be slow and subtle, just like this :
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/miss_sunflower_ch13#16
This sort of stuff could be Amber Teahouse just as easily. Clearly not complete indifference at least.
If you look at other stuff from the author, there is yuri there, so it's still a possibility for this series!

It’s just BDSM i rlly don’t get the whole “secret” thing, “true self” as if its something horrible.
Yep, it's just a hardcore sexual practice, nothing to see here, I'm sure she always talk about how she made that man squeal and lick her a boot while whipping that girl over there at family meals or during coffee break!
I think the problem is that, despite the fact that it's not something you enter right away when you were a virgin two minutes earlier, the mistress has feelings for the puppy girl. I think that in her mistress role, she just enjoys herself and doesn't care much about the receiving end. But deep down, she knows that what she does is frowned upon and can very much be scary.
It's like, you know you do something bad but you don't care much about people knowing, except for that one person which view you value a lot and that you don't want to disappoint, a part of shadow you don't want to reveal. Also, it's not only BDSM, she abused the puppy girl to the point of not remembering it and hurting her badly. I think one big point of BDSM is to have consent on both parties, right? Otherwise, it's an aggression.
I roll my eyes when people claim rape or rape attempt each time a character is a bit forceful, but there well.. I can't deny there was something wrong. Hard for the mistress to not feel guilty after doing that to the person she loves.
