It just seems like the devs didn't know how to do a proper dating sim with choices and branching routes and so they used this currency system that didn't really fit in right.

I don't think that is a matter of don't knowing, but more about not wanting. After all is pretty simple, just add a menu at the end of the week where you have to choose one of the girls.

By the way I kinda liked that most of the event were related to the cute icons. I noticed more on the non-cute icons. Like in the event where Sara suffer from hunger, you need to gather hunger icons.

Starlight Vega is wonderful. Melody route is also my absolute favorite. Was so cute and beautiful. Plenty of great and romantic moments!!

The only bad thing is that seeing Melody suffer made playing the other routes hard.

Oh, don't make me talk about X-Com... I have quite a grudge against it.
With the enemy patrols spawning magically in your back because... alien magic! And my whole squad not only missing a gigantic sectopoid while perched in an elevated position but blowing all their cover in the process.
That time I just stared at the screen and said... "How...!?". And after that I used a bit "colorful" language at my squad...
But, I'm derailing... and ranting...

Anyways, for me was cute the "gathering the cute icons" and then in the second part was not cute, not cute at all.

Of course, after having slammed my head against the wall countless time both in Long Live the Queen and Black Closet maybe has influenced my thoughts.
(And regarding LLTQ... the first thing that I though when Lavinia offered chocolate was... POISON!!!)

That's why I haven't played yet Asphyxia. I do not mind aaaaangst and suffering and despair (I just played A Little Lily Princess after all!) but what I do like is happy endings. I want the heroine earning her happy ending.

And while I'm a bit completionist, I'm not really serious about it. I never completed Magical Diary, because I have zero interest in the male routes. And I think that will remains like that. =P

So, I'm the only one who actually liked the simple gameplay?

I like that's pretty simple. Just aim for two characters in each game. There's no way to miss event that way. In the first play through I even got Jessie, Mariette and Becky.

In the second half is even easier, because you just have one character. And the game waits for you, reaching the end without triggering the final event just make "void" weeks without events.

So, there's not need to even savescumming. And I have nothing against savescumming, I'm an avid save-scummer (just ask X-Com, the old and the new one =3). Just that in this game I didn't needed to do it.

Finally completed all the routes the other night.
And my favorites didn't really changed with the addition of Mariette and Lottie routes. Still between Jessie, Becky and Ermengarde.

If you push me enough I will say that Becky is my absolute favorite. Not only she's adorable, but her route is full of both heartwarming and heart-wrenching moments.
Just love the lesbian epiphany of Sara, when she realize that she loves Becky in a romantically way.
And I agree that the ending CG is just lovely!!

But Jessie's route is very close. And the CG are just as beautiful, if not more. And you can't help but feel sorry for Jessie. You can feel her despair as the Damocles sword is hanging over her head and the doors closes slamming her face one after another.

And Ermengarde... sweet Ermengarde. She can be slow, but she tries. And her feelings for Sara are so strong and precious.

Gah, I love all the routes, that's it. =3

And I recommend The Sad Story of Emmeline Burns. Is a kinda short kinetic novel (No choices). But the art is beautiful and the story and writing are fantastic.
To be honest, it make me cry... not only misty eyes. Was amazing.

Also, you might want to check the other Hanako Games besides A Little Lily Princess.

Lots of mystery solving, conspirancy and lesbians. And traitors.

Long Live the Queen also have lesbian options... if you can survive long enough. Which I can't. But, guess that other people will not be as me, absolutly useless in playing the game. >_<

Just started it last night, the artfatastic, I love the character designs. I'm pretty sure I saw the movie version of the original. But she had an Indian servant I think.

I can't be sure, because I haven't read it, but the ones that did it, says that the game is closer to the original book than the other adaptations.
In particular I found pretty amusing that they say that the Ermengarde bits are actually pretty gay in the books.

By the way, I'm ready to get the last two remaining routes, Lottie and Mariette. Tonight I left just before the second half with both events cleared (And Becky's too, because Becky). But then... blackout.
Hopefuly this night I will fare better.

This is a little wonderful gem.
The art is just lovely, nice background, cute sprites, funny chibis, and beautiful CG. Seriously, I love the CG in this game.
The gameplay is easy and nice, I'm thankful of not having to suffer like in LLTQ or Black Closet... at least not for the gameplay.
And the story and characters are wonderfuly done.

I pretty much agree with Ropponmatsu.

But I think that Becky's route is my favorite.
Of course Jessie and Ermengarde routes are wonderful too.
And Lavinia... is complicated.
I still need to finish Lottie and Mariette routes.

Really hope that sells well, and than Hanako will deliver some kind of epilogues. That would be lovely. I really want more.

I was playing the beta, and only can say that is... wonderful. I love this kind of stories, and The Sad Story of Emmeline Burns teached me that Victorian Era Yuri could be the most lovely thing. And this one delivers in a great way.
