Finally read this through and HOLY SHIT is this one GOOD.
Yu finding out Qi was a girl was pretty sudden, but what followed I appreciated a lot. I liked the process in which Yu came to accept her love for what it is, it was paced appropriately. I also really, REALLY enjoyed Qi’s inner struggle to make up with Yu. She fell SO HARD for Yu, and I’m always, ALWAYS a huge fan of the initially hesitant falling even harder for their partner. And the scene where Qi finally wears femme clothes and gets even more openly intimate with Yu… IT MADE ME HOLLER. AND YU APPLYING MAKEUP FOR QI. THAT IS SO TRANS-CODED I LOVED IT. AND THE KISS WITH THE LIPSTICK!!! THAT WAS SO GOOD HOLY SHITFUCK

ALSO TANTAI LAN IS A FUCKING HOTTIE. She is literally the best character in the series bar none. I love her playful nature and the ABSOLUTE FUCKING RIZZ EMINATING SOLEY FROM HER PRESENCE. And MING WEI UGH GIRL YOU’RE SO PRECIOUS I can’t… Her arc is so good and she’s so gay for A-Lan and she doesn’t even fucking question it. About the out-of-character Bocchi tho, this author always drew Bocchi as more of a rizzler so it's nothing new from them but it is a tad bit jarring when it isn't just a single image but a long-form doujin. 6 years is a lot of time for someone to change and it's not THAT inconceivable that she would turn out this way but her character's essence is barely present and it doesn't feel like her most of the time. You could say it's a "what if" premise but when it gives this big of a drastic change to the character, idk... I go back and forth on this.

When you ignore all this tho, this was a cute read! I love Bohiro and I love tall Boccher

This has been my comfort yuri for the last couple of days - it's so fluffy and cute!!! Literally NOTHING goes wrong and - even though I enjoy my fair share of toxic/doomed yuri, it felt so nice to have a series I can just fall back on and not be anxious about any drama at all while reading. I feel like this could've continued forever, way past their real marriage, but oh well. It was a really good read while it lasted

Jokes aside, I enjoy the premise - but it gets frustrating sometimes for sure tho. I don't really mind Wakaba being dense, that's a fine enough trope, but Komaki bottling up her emotions THIS much is a little incomprehensible. Her argumemt that since Wakaba will never love her back she should be the one she hates the most is a little flimsy of an excuse imo. But still, I like how things are going so far and their relationship still feels tender and wholesome in a fucked up way.

Matsuri is probably a healthier option for Wakaba tho. I enjoy the way she's making moves on Wakaba, it's so smooth and risky it makes my heart flutter. I wish she went further tho, even though it's a doomed ship, I want her to be more assertive and actually pose some kind of threat to Komaki, would ironically make her open up her feelings a bit more.

Uhhh yeah no this doesn't feel like yuri at all when the premise is....that. Not even because a bf is mentioned but because the whole thing is to "prepare for a trip with him". You can call it whatever but calling this yuri feels really disingenuous. If the gyaru had a crush on her then maybe, but this ain't it

I appreciate Miyagi's motive behind teasing Sendai, and that's the one thing that has been developed relatively the furthest, but it moreso drags things rather than intrigue me

Cute! The ending does feel a bit rushed, although I can't think of a better way it could've played out. Gotou wanted to be more independent and Rei inspired her - not being able to contact each other was the point. But it does bug me that Rei had to be COMPLETELY in the dark for a year and a half. She did not know any of those motivations behind Gotou, and she just blamed herself for falling for a "straight" girl. I feel like there COULD have been better ways to communicate things before Gotou left, which is why the ending, even if intended, does feel a bit rushed.

Also meeting each other randomly on the street is a cop-out I feel? That's like the one part I wish was more dramatic. I understand it's because their first re-encounter after work was also randomly on the street, but eh... Did it really need to stay loyal to that structure? I get what the author was going for tho. The actual scene where they do meet in the cafe, clears things up as the gay marriage legalization news blare in the background was absolute fucking cinema. I think the author just really wanted to make that scene and you know what? It was worth it.

YAOI AND YURI SAVE THE WORLD

I LOVE THIS??? It’s been a while since I’ve read office lady yuri, and this one goes all in on that setting and delivers it. The way their relationships developed was frustrating at times but also pretty satisfying by the end. Although it’s true it took a WHILE.
Ayaka's whole-hearted dedication to Hiroko was so fun - It’s just pure, unfiltered, unconditional love that contrasted well with the complicated, cynical, second-guessing love that Hiroko had. Hiroko's hesitance can be frustrating but I enjoyed her complexity. And yeah, that final confession was so touching - it really felt like a culmination of every single time Ayaka has said she loves Hiroko.
It’s so funny that it’s revealed in the epilogue that Ayaka was the one time Hiroko’s gaydar did not work, because throughout the entire story I’ve been screaming at her how her gaydar is way off and to have the author acknowledge it at the end was super vindicating lmao.
The upfront queer theming was very nice too - I’m always a huge fan of yuri stories that feature lesbian bars, because the characters having a safe queer space to vent out lets them be more open about their emotions and the story generally becomes more grounded.

Also, FUCK MEN. UGH. They almost made me throw up in this one, fuck patriarchy seriously. Except Yuuya senpai - maybe my bars are so low for men but he is a sweetheart isn’t he. It’s men like him that reminds me I am still technically bisexual god dammit.

Also Risa is so precious, she's arguably the one that made both Ayaka and Hiroko change their act up more as the story progressed, and I'm a little sad she had to go through a heartbreak but at least she got over it and found someone by the end.

Marika is so comically homophobic in the beginning it kinda took me a while to get hooked into the premise - but I did enjoy the confession scene and the whole climax, very satisfying

i dunno if you can even call it wholesome, Marika is actively being raped by Aya especially in the beginning of the manga, Aya and Marika have such power imbalance to the point where Aya talks about buying Marika.

making a bet that you can turn someone gay is onething, actively touching them, intimately while you force them to read yuri and watch porn is out of hand...ive been in a situation like this before with the person who hired me for a job, where they invited me over to their house where id been before with other coworkers to have a couple beers, and read comics, where it ended up with them wrapping their arms and legs around me, trying to get me to sleep with them

I mean, yeah... Even with the dubious consent tag this one is particularly rapey because Aya doesn't even stop to check if Marika consents when she says "No". In other mangas that have similar forceful plotlines they always have the top at least stop and ask if they can continue if the bottom says they're uncomfortable. In real life you would in addition always set up a safe word or sth. Here Aya makes the shitty excuse of "Oh but you're not resisting" and keeps going. Also the underage thing is super unsettling, especially because the owner of the bar is an adult.
So by "wholesome" I definitely did not mean those parts. Because there are some fluffy moments in this, although these problems certainly ruin them a bit.

And boy am I traumatized! The earlier chapters really fucked with my head, it took some time to get used to all the deaths, AND the flashbacks... The author is an absolute psycopath I'm pretty sure lol - yeah sure show me the happy flashbacks of characters that will fucking drop dead soon. Yeah, show me them discussing their life plans that they CAN'T FULFILL. THANKS FOR MAKING ME CRY.
The later chapters tone it down (or maybe I got numb to it) but I'm still thinking about Aoi.... I think that death hit the hardest... It's just that I FEEL SO BAD FOR YOSHIDA - SHE DIDN'T DESERVE ANY OF THAT AND YET SHE'S SUCH AN ANGEL TO KONOHA
I just hope her character is building up to something, although I doubt it will since it's been so long without anything.
